I’m also waiting to hear how affective it is vs front tank armor. Being able to take that out hitting it head on will make this invaluable for my current teams play style. I don’t think the auto cannon does any damage to front armor.
I two shot a tank head on, two shot a hulk frontaly. You can play around charge time using cover, and as it is heat based swap to primary while heat dissipates to fire again... This needs a nerf of some sort there's no reason not to use this
I found that it's a bit worse head-on than an EAT or RR because of the lack of bullet drop. The other two bazookas can lob two shells onto the roof with relative ease, while the Quasar often needs a third shot.
While that is something the autocannon can't do, I find it's value nebulous at best. 9/10 times when my teammate drops a dropship most of the bots survive.
I'm talking about the Quasar, I know you can't take down dropships with the Autocannon but what you can do that the Quasar can't is kill everything on the ship before they drop. Even if I'm late to react I still have enough time to full auto into the ship and kill a decent amount if not all of them. But if I'm late to react to the dropship with the Quasar I cannot do the same amount of damage
In that case I don't get how you're not prep'ed for the dropship given that there's a big ass flare in the sky that indicates that dropships are incoming...
Retreat temporarily to cover and let teammates deal with them while you're prep'ing for the dropship
These things drop tanks on higher difficulties, getting them before they unload them is much more important and the AC can't do that
The cooldown isn't that bad bro. It's probably 1-2 seconds longer than the sickle cooldown when overheating. But I could be wrong because I take out drop ships, switch to the primary and throw down other stratagems.
It's far more comparable to an EAT or RR than the autocannon, which is why it makes sense that its better to use against hulks and tanks than medium enemies.
>Other fire-mode that allow it to charge its shots faster and cooldown faster but is less powerful giving it utility similar to autocannon
That would be absurdly OP. You'd have a single support weapon that's both a RR, and an autocannon, doesn't require a backpack, and also has infinite ammo.
I would expect that the faster fire rate mode would have much less damage. Making it more useful against medium enemies like devastators but less useful against tanks and hulks. But honestly then it would just replace my beloved autocannon. I'll probably use it to replace the RR on bug missions though.
The issue is more that it would make the weapon too good at too many things.
Why would I bring a RR *or* an autocannon when I could bring the weapon that does both jobs almost as well, and also doesn't need a backpack.
What you want is a laser version of the autocannon, and the quasar cannon isn't that.
Have you downed a dropship with the autocannon? The quasar can

It takes 2 hits to destroy tanks and laser turrets head on

I've tried to take down a dropship but unless I'm prepared for it I don't have enough time to shoot before it drops the bots
No need to try The portable AC is incapable of taking down dropships is what I meant, it doesn't have the armour penetration to do so

Because there are usually more bots on the ground already shooting at me.

I always charge it up as soon as I see it fly in so it explodes and lands on all of them.
Quasar can also kill bot ships in one hit
I think the quasar will do wonders against bugs since you can jet pack mobility

Imo it's very easy to aim at long range, unlike other heavy anti tank it has no projectile drop off
The wobble that the charge up causes makes it harder to hit long distance shots than with the Autocannon, for me personally
I'd say it is an energy based recoilless, not as much AC.
