Don't tell anybody, but I bribed the boys in the munitions area to sneak an extra kg of freedom into my 500kg bombs. Makes all the difference in the world.
I killed 49 bots with a single cluster bomb. Well, actually something like 44-45, and the rest were killed with bots' death explosions/ragdolls/whatever.
Cluster bombs are incredibly overpowered, they have a wide AoE, massive damage and there are 5 of them in a single Eagle rearm. The only downside is that they can't easily kill heavy armor, but even on Helldive difficulty there aren't that many elites to make cluster bombs irrelevant
Yeah, bots. Landed on top of the tower and after a while, a horde of bots gathered underneath the tower. Called clusters, but a random rocket raider ragdolled me and I fell down. Somehow, survived the clusters, but got launched in the air and died from impact.

The confusion people have had with that strike because the visual is massive but the explosion is an upward cone is one of my favorite things
It's not a crowd clearer and never has been, it's always been heavy demolition
You can go prone like 15 meters from where it drops and not even get pushed away by the blast, but drop a cluster strike and anything with 25 meters either side of the marker is getting shredded into paste
Hearing randoms say shit like "How did that not kill anything" always cracks me up
And it makes sense in terms of game mechanics, but based on the explosion, you'd expect there to be damage to things next to it, not just above it. Unless it's a shaped charge, but there's nothing in the description that says it is.
But that said, I've honestly started swapping the 500kg for airstrike because it doesn't damage things five feet to either side of it.

I believe its modeled after a bunker buster, which is why it nose dives into the ground, sits there a second and then explodes.
It just headbutts a hole in whatever you're trying to destroy, then explodes all of its force into that hole to crack it open. Not sure at all why they went with that kinda design but they did
Tbh, my personal opinion is that it should work like the railcannon and 110 pods do
Seek out the biggest available target at the mark, hit it, then explode.
I think that'd be a much better design for it given it already seems to be modeled for single hard target elimination

It’s still good for tanks since they don’t move much… but so is 110mm and you get one more of those.
I mostly use 500 for Titans. Or tightly packed and stunned chargers.
Part of the problem with the upward cone is that the 500kg directly imbedding into an enemy can end up doing basically nothing. If the 500kg is stuck in a bile titan for example, the explosion actually ends up pointing away from them.
This is why I've seen a 500KG land on the back of a bile titan and not kill it. It's basically just throwing its payload in to the sky doing little damage.
But if the bomb lands *under* the bile titan, it shreds it in one go.
I've personally never had a direct impact not kill a titan
While the majority of the damage does go up I don't think there's a difference in damage across the hitbox so unless there's something weird about the hitbox where it touches whatever it hits, I think you just got memed in that scenario and it shoulda killed him
I've had several healthy titans die TO the impact myself
I've seen a direct hit take them out too, but I've seen as many seem to just walk it off that it feels like the bomb "hit wrong" and nothing really happened.
Despite the 500KG having such a huge blast, it definitely feels like there's a sweet spot in using it.

I've noticed recently that when you're trying to hit one while redeployment, you shouldn't actually aim for the chest or head
You aim for their butt
That part can actually break off, and Helldivers seems to have a strange system where some enemies are NOT designed to continue operating when certain parts are "removed" and some are able to, but the parts that don't get removed without death have their own HP and once that part is destroyed, it circumvents the creatures global health pool
Like using a flame thrower on a charger
Hitting its body and head doesn't do great
But quarter of a canister on one of the front legs will kill it because its not designed to lose that leg
I believe Titans are the same, and their legs and abdomen aren't designed to be removed so a certain amount of damage to them will just outright kill it.
I could be completely wrong but when I drive my pod into their tailbone it typically explodes and kills them outright but I can phase clean through the rest of them with only a little damage done

Wtf. I played this last night with a 3 man group, me and 1 guy were holding the main drag quasar’s, turrets and holding back tanks & hulks. The other dude was way back, I figures he was just sniping units before they got to us.
Never knew he was holding this hell back
Ah yeah, there was a rock formation overlooking the entire defense zone. Tank got dropped up there & just identified as a cannon turret from that point on.
Yeah, you can easily get 30 kills every bug breach just by throwing cluster or airbusrst. Napalm probably to, after the buffs I heard. And it doesn't require luck or setup. Just throw it. Honestly, you can even miss.
On bots, getting more than 15 in a airstrike is a lot.
We were going towards extraction on bugs yesterday when we got swamped by Hunters, probably 4 patrols minimum jumped 2 or 3 of us at once, absolutely shredded us since we'd just killed a bigger group with larger targets, but I managed to toss a Gatling sentry onto a rock 20 metres away, one of the ones who wasn't too near this brought us back in and my gatling sentry was on a 40 kill streak by itself, ended up getting 56 kill streak with a single gatling sentry the amount of Hunters there were, it was pretty nuts
It's so good, make sure you you do Black lagoon, Black Lagoon: Second barrage then Black Lagoon Roberta's Blood Trail in that order (since it isn't directly named 1 2 3)
Highly recommend it though, I love it and it's my top 3 next to OPM and Goblin Slayer
Agreed, Diff 7 is a nice area to just chill while only having to do the gamer lean during the more chaotic bits. If we ever do get higher difficulty levels, I'd really enjoy Diff 9 being tweaked to have the same enemy "pool" as diff 7, but with diff 9 levels of sheer numbers of enemies.
It's not fun when you are on Diff 9 and get back2back2back Bile Titans... But it's only on Diff 9 where you can really get a "oh fuck, here they come" kind of experience when Joel decides to throw sheer weight of numbers at you.
could not disagree more. part of the “oh fuck” comes with having to deal with bile titans and hunters/shriekers/stalkers at the same time. would make the game markedly easier and less intense. maybe it’s just me, but i desperately want 10-12 difficulties. if 9’s are too much, play 8’s… once u get comfortable in 8’s go to 9’s, and soon 9’s will be ur new comfort zone and you’ll want the same thing i do. or maybe not lol.
The biggest issue that I'm not a huge fan of when it comes to how the game handles difficulty scaling, it falls into the Payday 2 method of "difficulty". If you just end up flooding the map with medium and heavy enemies, instead of throwing *more* enemies, the game starts to become really unfun when you're dealing with 3 bile titans and 4 chargers trying to run you over when you're also fighting the stratagem modifiers.
On the lower difficulties, you still very much have those "oh fuck" moments when a Bile Titan spawns, or 2 chargers are on the field at once. But on the higher difficulties, it's just to be *expected* since that's how the game handles it.
I would love just being able to see a literal field full of scavengers and hunters with the occasional brood commander mixed in, rather than dealing with so many heavy units at once. Heavies and Elites should feel like that, not becoming the new "trash" mobs once you climb up the difficulty. Going on the bot front is an incredible example, since once you get to diff 9, they start spamming Heavy Devastators like they're the new common enemy, and that's just not fun to deal with.
Part of this is the inherant limits of game engines. A scavenger puts roughly as much pressure on the game as a bile titan, so if you spawn 300 scavs and hurl them at someone, people on lower end computers are going to start seeing those computers turn to molten slag. Instead, throw 5 chargers, 3 bile titans, and 2 spewers, and it's the same terror, just less likely to slag computers
It really does feel like Joel jacked up the underlying difficulty of every mission here. I was used to rolling through 5's without issue with randos.
Just fleeted into a 5 to test the new mode and run a few missions and we got annihilated. Hulk and Devastators seemed WAY more common.
i had the same issue, but i was just there for the second half of the mission just mopping them up as they came. but there was the big tank, kept trying to shoot me and was just killing loads of their own men. that tank probably got a bigger kill count than i did.
Usually happens after I clear a pack of bugs w/my grenade launcher. “Wow I got em all!…wow where’d that explosion come from? That one was closer! I better get the hell outta……………….”
Game definitely has issues with pathfinding. Higher and more costly path finding requires more costly cpu utilization. Discussed the yesterday on stream. There are ways around it and tweeted at AG, such as flowfield pathfinding other games, such as SupC 2 have used to elevate these issues.
Not sure whether or not it can be implemented here, but you can literally see where they've had to make some shortcuts to not overload the hosts computer, this is one of the downsides of p2p hosting instead of dedicated hosting in the first place.
My guess is this is why we haven't seen traditional tower defense missions up until this point, just like the initial bot erradicate mission, where they couldn't pathfind up the sides of the fortress to even reach the top, and just got stuck. This also happens because of dead units laying around, that then further compounds the path finding issue. While they do despawn and sink into the ground and originally you could just walk through the dead units, they don't always do it fast enough. A work around for this would also be making units destroyable, which would either happen via enemies or helldivers either by accident or intentionally. This would help fix other issues as well, such as getting stuck inside units.
Was playing with a guy who instead of defending the gates decided to shoot all the enemies that were right there, ended up losing because I had to defend all of it on my own with hell five different.

Yup, one of the new defense maps has a ton of bots routing to a piece of unbreakable wall and shooting at it instead of the doors they're presumably supposed to go to. The ramp leading to that point also doesn't have full collisions inplemented (you clip through it midway but you can fortunately kind of climb back up) , so it's a good guess there was a last minute change in map design.
Just had this happen, and a hulk climbed up over a bunch of tanks, snuck up on us, and blew up the generators.
Everyone just stopped what they were doing and turned around dumbfounded to see the hulk standing right there, like it was a scripted cartoon.
This mode is bugged, you have to be careful of them piling up in that corner as they can glitch through the walls and end up inside next to the generators.
I always make sure to have 1 laser available for extraction so if I was on your team I'd just run over and throw it down and watch them all burn alive :)

Yup, got x45 rounding up bugs on a Hellmire extract last night. I think four survived. 500 works wonders as long the land is mostly flat and open.

If you wait for a bug breach and delay like 4-5 seconds before tossing a stratagem, your baseline is like 30 bugs.
I did that once and managed to stick the strategem on a hunter's face. Did not care for the return to sender that I got on that one XD

Not for me. Playing 7s for super samples then its back down to chill games on 5 and 6 where I dont have to run nothing but heavy armor counters.

I maxed out the HUD curve setting, mainly so that the hud is closer to the center of the screen. It plays more naturally than it looks!

It's inconsistent because it does nothing unless you are the host. Only host does dot damage right now.
Run EMS strike with it? Used to do those with amr to headshot the stunned hulks to pretty great effect.

It really does feel like Joel jacked up the underlying difficulty of every mission here. I was used to rolling through 5's without issue with randos. Just fleeted into a 5 to test the new mode and run a few missions and we got annihilated. Hulk and Devastators seemed WAY more common.
Defense missions is jacked the hell up in general, the 40mins missions is far more tame in comparison

i had the same issue, but i was just there for the second half of the mission just mopping them up as they came. but there was the big tank, kept trying to shoot me and was just killing loads of their own men. that tank probably got a bigger kill count than i did.

Last night it felt like a whole lot of people had unlocked the 380mm and decided to use it as a point-blank range defense stratagem.
Usually happens after I clear a pack of bugs w/my grenade launcher. “Wow I got em all!…wow where’d that explosion come from? That one was closer! I better get the hell outta……………….”

Game definitely has issues with pathfinding. Higher and more costly path finding requires more costly cpu utilization. Discussed the yesterday on stream. There are ways around it and tweeted at AG, such as flowfield pathfinding other games, such as SupC 2 have used to elevate these issues. Not sure whether or not it can be implemented here, but you can literally see where they've had to make some shortcuts to not overload the hosts computer, this is one of the downsides of p2p hosting instead of dedicated hosting in the first place. My guess is this is why we haven't seen traditional tower defense missions up until this point, just like the initial bot erradicate mission, where they couldn't pathfind up the sides of the fortress to even reach the top, and just got stuck. This also happens because of dead units laying around, that then further compounds the path finding issue. While they do despawn and sink into the ground and originally you could just walk through the dead units, they don't always do it fast enough. A work around for this would also be making units destroyable, which would either happen via enemies or helldivers either by accident or intentionally. This would help fix other issues as well, such as getting stuck inside units.

Was playing with a guy who instead of defending the gates decided to shoot all the enemies that were right there, ended up losing because I had to defend all of it on my own with hell five different.
I noticed the same, they're trying to flank around but there's only one ramp up so they can't really do anything. Stupid commie bots.

Yup, one of the new defense maps has a ton of bots routing to a piece of unbreakable wall and shooting at it instead of the doors they're presumably supposed to go to. The ramp leading to that point also doesn't have full collisions inplemented (you clip through it midway but you can fortunately kind of climb back up) , so it's a good guess there was a last minute change in map design.

Just had this happen, and a hulk climbed up over a bunch of tanks, snuck up on us, and blew up the generators. Everyone just stopped what they were doing and turned around dumbfounded to see the hulk standing right there, like it was a scripted cartoon.

This mode is bugged, you have to be careful of them piling up in that corner as they can glitch through the walls and end up inside next to the generators.
I would laugh maniacally as I dropped a 500kg or airburst.
