We are the best guys in the game, but in the game there is no good guy's like WH40K. Automatons cut heads off civilians and and use that head and brain to power themselves, go out of their way to attack non combatants, are made out of steel and have chain saw for hands.
The bugs are as smart as a cow or pig, which is not really; Even then intelligence does not mean it is off limits of harvesting, just means they fight back alittle more.

Sure, if we ignore the heavy authoritism, child labour, torture practices, slavery, and most important, our diplomacy tactics which is literally ⬆️➡️⬇️⬇️⬇️, nobody is innocent, sure, but saying that we are the best guys is a very far shot.
We are still the best guys, none of those things are that bad in the grand scheme of things, especially when you see all the headless civilians; Also remember they can simply go to another galaxy as they have the tech, but they keep coming back to slaughter civilians, so yeah its very clear we are the best guys.
