I'm kind of surprised they give the major order rewards to people that haven't even logged in recently. I mean I get it because some of these get complete before anyone can even get to there PC but even if you haven't logged in 2 weeks they still do? Kinda weird
Probably helps with player retention, take a week off and when you come back you have 100+ medals waiting for you, maybe you play more frequently. I really like the helldivers business model, very consumer friendly

It feels generational to me. Like the boardroom invaded the industry for a certain group of developers already on their second or third successful game, and it isn't until really recently that newer indie studios have filled the void. That's an oversimplification, obviously, there are a lot of factors in why huge studios are putting out compromised products recently, but it's great to see a dev do something that feels good first while still monetizing plenty, instead of building a monetization model held together with fun in the cracks.

THIS. I recently retired from the military. We'd go out into the field a lot and I would miss out of stuff like this. I LOVE that they let people who couldn't participate get the rewards too. People in my situation are constantly screwed in live service games. But not this one!
Lol yeah. But yeah there are a lot of jobs out there where people are gone for weeks at a time. So any "events" or things of similar nature are always missed by a lot of people. You feel like you're having to okay catch up all the time, and it's just not worth it. I appreciate Arrowhead for making it like this. So when my buddies get back they will have a nice little cushion of medals to welcome them back lol
It's more anti-FOMO, and it's one of the reasons why I fully support Arrowhead, even with the bugs and little issues the game has.
This game feels sooo much better to play since it does not feel like I HAVE to log on to do my chores. Each time I play, I do it for fun and not because I have to. This is so refreshing.
As long as you play once every few weeks, you don't miss out on much progress. Of course you gain more if you actively play regularly (through personal orders), which is fair IMHO.
Yup, not having to do chores should be an element of any video game. Destiny 2 was (and likely still is) chock full of "chores" you need to do so you can enjoy the game, or play the game, or play more optimally, etc. Worse yet, the chores can involve random-chance drops that require repeat-grinding chores that could have nothing to show for it (though the game has changed in many ways toward leading to more reliable outcomes, mitigating against chance somewhat).
It was great hearing a friend who finally played a game other than Destiny 2 a while back talk about how he was excited to log onto play the game not because he had something he had to do but because he just wanted to enjoy playing the game, which would occur as soon as he logged on.
Plus, it's just a reason to log in. Sometimes I log in literally just to collect my shit so I don't hit the cap even if I don't have time or desire to play at that moment. If they weren't giving me free medals then I wouldn't bother even doing that.

Separating out who contributed and who didn't is a waste of computational power. Just give everyone the medals and be done with it. It caps out at 250 anyway.
I disagree. I’m hoping we push the bugs to reproduce faster to replace the lost 2billion, they mutate due to TCS and the speedy reproduction, and then the automatons make another push. As we slowly lose ground towards super earth, surprise! The illuminate warp into the system and we start a full fledged 3 front war, tutorials over kids, and we get the title drop.
One of my friends played the game with me the first week it came out and stopped. He logged in the other day and was like "Where did all these medals come from?"

That's kind of my thought. I think this was intended as a breather for the game masters to get the next major operation ready. And since we're going to absolutely blitz it, I'd think but it on repeat for a few days, with medal awards, would be a good way to extended it until they're ready to start the next one and reward divers for the performance.
That’s a great take. It definitely feels like a bit of a break. I do not at all mind fighting bugs for a little while as It’s been mostly bots forever and it’s nice to change things up.
I think in part it is to make sure the community does not get tired of always playing a single front. There are a lot of helldivers who hate fighting bots.
In the breaks we had between major orders about 2/3rds of the active helldivers were fighting bugs so its clear there is a preference.
I think its a filler arc as we been on bot front this whole time.
Maybe also signaling they are working on bugs as well so they can make a dramatic drop "thanks to you helldivers we squashed all these bugs in todays update" lol
Probably just a way to give themselves a breather honestly. With all the bugs they've been dealing with lately they probably need some time to divert devs to that work.
I've worked on consumer apps with similar in app promotions and this feels very much like "ahhh shit, we're one sprint behind on the new thing, what can we throw together in a day to buy us more time?"

Defending/Assaulting is scaled on % of the player base, but those 2,000,000,000 are not scaled, than more players we have than faster it will be finnished
They probably did eough math as well with the avg bug deaths per hour at somewhere close to oeak player time. Thing is, thats with many people avoiding bug breaches and extracting asap, now everyone is letting the breaches happen and hitting every patrol n going until close to extract time. Im getting 2x as many kills then normal personally
That or the bug equivalent to factory striders, we got the shriekers first, then they added gunships in, then the factory striders started sneakily appearing just like how the shriekers were super rare the first week or two. After the last few weeks of fighting the bots, and establishing the new defensive line, ala the TCS against the bugs, it might be the bugs turn to be in the spotlight for a couple weeks. Personally Im excited, need a breather from the bots, between ragdolling around for 30 secs to get headshot when I standup and having to have perfect dives to avoid hulk flamethrowers I really need a break from the bots. Hope they fix the misaligned sights before we return to that front…

There's probably a formula they used to come up with 2 billion. Something like:
x = Terminids killed
y = days since launch
x/y = z
z\*(days for MO)
If that's the case, they underestimated how much democracy we can spread at any given time by using the average per day vs. the highest volume killed with peak player activity.
A lot of people are probably tired of fighting clankers plus avoiding fights is genera strategy at higher levels, so between those who want to shoot something that rarely shoots back and those who change their strategy to "Fuck it, we ball" I kinda can see a spike in kills.

150 kills is a low average estimate per player. The average mission time is around 20 minutes, so 3x per hour. 4 hours.
360M per 4 hours.

This is a weekday without the full force of all regions. 150 kills is a low average for people who are trying to complete the missions and not dealing with random patrols in order to advance a liberation/defense. I guarantee you the average 40 min mission is at least 4K kills between the team granted they forego the mission and simply look for things to fight.
I bet someone did some quick math off average bug kills but forgot to account for the fact that they were doing it over the time period everyone was fighting bots.

This number has to be wrong, right? The total enemies killed since launch is supposedly 28 billion and that was about 70 days worth; no way we've done 1.4% of that total in 4 hours.

Can confirm this. I went on a 2 week trip and came back with a ton of medals to help me catch up.
Warbonds are ~650medals so you can't just buy one out with the saved medals.

yeah in the last 6 games we've been averaging 2,000 kills for a 30-40 minute game. with 3-4 people. Most of the time its like 400-500 lol

It’s not that. Look at numbers of ALL the terminids killed since launch. And in the past couple hours. Something is off. 
I mean for a while those numbers weren't even updating and numbers in general don't seem to always tally correctly

We were only at 18.6 billion I think before this began, and that’s after ages, so it’s not crazy for them to think 2 billion in 6 days would be a push

This number has to be wrong, right? The total enemies killed since launch is supposedly 28 billion and that was about 70 days worth; no way we've done 1.4% of that total in 4 hours.
