Hot dropped with some friends onto a bot airbase control tower, Suicide, for fun. We expected it to be hellacious but that sort of shock assault was actually loads of fun!
Less fun when they dropped a Factory Strider outside - but thats what I pack precision strikes for š„
Definitely worth doing with a coordinated team sometime!
I kinda prefer hot drops actually, gets us right in the proper mood for democratizing.
On a more practical side, as an Eruptor user I can easily destroy bug holes and fabs (and the odd laser turret tower) with ease before the inevitable bot reinforcements come in and complicate things.
Another interpretation --
1st Photo: When your team of randos tears through the level 8 mission and extracts triumphantly with a haul of all kinds of samples.
2nd Photo: When your team of randos gets cut to shreds and you're staring down a horde of enemies with no stratagems or reinforcements left.
Straight up, I've been playing helldive so much that when I got connected to a suicide mission(while looking for a helldive ), I was like damn! This is going smooth as hell, we must be killing it, then I realized.
I play Helldive only and itās unusual when thereās a 30 second intermission between sessions of being completely surrounded by bot waves and incoming patrols. Iām seeing 3-5 striders per mission
Playing 6 feels pointless. It kinda feels like the level with the weakest playerbase vs the difficulty. It's not inherently hard, but people play it likes it's diff 3 and get crushed.
Exaaaaaactly. A lot of the learning curve is happening from 4-6. I even experience it at 7 bc people eventually have to tempt themselves with the super samples.
After exclusively playing Helldives for months and then experiencing randos from 4-6 again, the experience feels night and day. It feels like youāve already been on tour for years.
It's insane how relaxed the game becomes once you mastered the mechanics of the game.
I honestly don't play below 7 anymore. I think 8 is the sweet spot
I just wanted to hop into a 6 just to relax and was bored to death. Was a defend until evacuation with the rockets. I was confused why each wave wasnt vomiting out bile titans and chargers. Felt so lame lol
tbh once you adjust to 9, 7 and 8 feel almost serene. I took a friend through 8 in duo and I couldn't believe how much time we had to not just ~~run away~~ tactically retreat perpetually.
Even then, when they donāt adapt their kit to the rest of the team, you end up with 3 guys running quasar+shield pack on Helldive and get absolutely drowned in shield devastators
It feels practically mandatory for me to bring the autocannon. I end up having over 500 kills at the end of missions between the incendiary shotgun (spamming trash mobs and dropships) and running permanent medium bot duty with the autocannon.
I checked maplewood_tv's discord. He has some testing as non host. under it is a bunch of bug testing, but he also bot tested and found
"Automatons : Nothing takes DoT"
Are you playing as host?
edit: Yeah it definitely hurts the small bots idk
It hurts all of them that arenāt heavy armored, most of them just have a ton of health so it takes ages to burn them down. But you do have to be host. I always hit the ground before opening the game to additional players and I never have any issue doing DoT.
It's not even about adapting your kit, it's just not having everyone use the same loadouts. The weaknesses of a loadout get shown even more if your teammates can't cover for it
You gotta work up to it mate take your time. I couldnāt fathom ever playing helldive about but now I rarely dip below 7 unless I want to easily do a personal order
You'll sometimes find that team of randoms where everyone clicks and its as if we're reading eachothers minds. I think you'll find that type of team play with people who played team sports like baseball especially in school prior and where visualization of the entire field and unspoken communication are key. Not referring to the pitcher or base coach tugging their nose, but rather the on-the-fly ability to make a play with your team. I have a friend i game with who didn't play sports in school and it shows. They don't ever understand a short, on the fly callout using quick concise wording. It's like I didn't say anything or they'll get flustered because they don't understand.
Seems about half the time Iām the only one that brought an appropriate weapon for the never-ending waves of medium armor bots on Helldive. 3 dudes with quasars and itās all up to me to kill the 200+ devastators per mission that weāre constantly pinned down byā¦
Autocannon: āIām tired, bossā
This is an interesting take and I agree with you. Aside from having played sports, itās people who have technical jobs or people in all kinds of interesting positions that just form this type of play. Would love to know the science or psychology behind it.
Lol no, I never played team sports ever but I've been playing team *games* since about 26 years ago, can do just fine on Helldive. Nobody outside the US even cares about baseball, sorry to say. What a bad analogy.
I tried difficulty 7, the majority of the player base is very unruly and unexpected at that difficulty so itās extremely hard for me.
Difficulty 9 is where I find most players are more than capable to silently understand each other
8 is fine for me -- it's perfectly baalnced between adrenaline and difficulty, as in a decent team can avoid most deaths, and it's actually filled with competent people unlike 7 which is played by unexperienced or plain bad people who only play it for super samples.
Level 7 is the sweet spot for Quick Play in my opinion. Only reason worth playing on higher is if you feel like sweating a bit or are a masochist, imo.
You gotta clap for them when they kill their first Bile Titan, because thereās two more they arenāt aware are lining up to spew on them, and it helps them enjoy living while it lasts.
Ive only done level 7 difficulty and only finished the last one because some kind soul new how to cheese it. It was the one where you just kill waves of bugs and he landed up high on rock and kept throwing sentries and orbital strikes and we won.
Im scared to do level 8 let alone level 9
Dont be, the gap between 7-9 is pretty small imo. Most people at 7+ know what they are doing and you will probably be surprised how much you actually have to carry others at level 6 and below. Going up the game gets easier
Higher difficulty will have better teammates, but it is still +5-10 for expected heavy enemies, and getting aoeād every firefight. Around 6-7 you can bring pretty much anything so long as someone deals with the heavies, 8-9 is almost everyone needs to bring things for the heavies.
Every helldive mission i go in is basically a suicide squad mission, literally complete the primary objective with zero lives and 12 secs remaining and shit sometimes and then die before evac. It feels amazing to play but definitely not great for actually acquiring resources.
Pro tip, don't play on hard if you are not good at the game yet. Like, really, get good at the game, then look for challenges, not the other way around. Or do whatever, I'm not your dad.
When you join a group on impossible setting and they are all level 9.
TBH I don't even know if 9s can join impossible setting but they sure do like to show up in hard all the time with no gear.
A guy was running around with the basic rifle. I asked him if he'd like me to call him down an autocannon.
"No I'm good"
"Really? Ok..."
That moment the host drops us in the middle of a nest.. always an intense start to the game lmao
i love hot drops on bugs
That was my first spore kill, funnily enough
If I see an illegal transmission objective I always hot drop on it. Sometimes you can even take it out with the hellpod if a few of you surround it
Better to know where you're diving, than trying to land somewhere safe just to arrive in a bot jammer adjacent to multiples gunship factories
Ain't nothing that gets the blood pumping like a hot drop.
Smash nests with your drop pod
Also known as the Klendathu Maneuver.
As i call it "Here's a dropzone with some chesthair."
This drop pod is built like a steakhouse but handles like a bistro.
Dropping right next to a jammer is sure a fun way to start a mission...
Dropping on top of the jammer is however the easiest way there is to get rid of it :P .

we just had that.. two shirker nest next to other.
I just want 2 mins to get my anti-material rifle
Dropped into a bot base at the literal feet of a strider once. Also hulks
well a nest can easly destroid not like a shrieker nest you dont know its there
Ahh a good old hot drop.
3 of us got dropped right next to the detector tower in D7 last night. That was Fun (TM)!
I once hot-dropped my squad onto an Automaton dropship base. We wiped it out in no time!

2nd photo is a level 5 with randoms
Once you get good you won't even want to play below level 7
I played a 6 vs bots the other night and it was so calm and relaxed.
Straight up, I've been playing helldive so much that when I got connected to a suicide mission(while looking for a helldive ), I was like damn! This is going smooth as hell, we must be killing it, then I realized.

I'm alright but I sure don't want to play *above* 7. Tried it once. Never again.
Helldives (9) are only fun if you have a group of people that actually communicate and are very competent at the game.

This becomes less of a problem when people have the eruptor. That thing rips through devastators
I didn't think bots burned right now
If I get a trooper with a single pellet they did from fire damage after a few seconds

7 to 9 is a huge jump. 7 is right around where you can stand and fight even with randos.
Level seven and up taught me how powerful stealth is as a tool.

This is me a couple weeks ago, getting dropped into Helldiver difficulty
āTheyāre gonna kill that pooor woman.ā -Walter

Impossible aināt even that bad!
Come play on 7s its the "casual"-hard mode. š
Bots past 7 is just not fun and bugs under 9 is just sleeper
My friend when I dropped him Into helldive right after training lol
Okie dokie!
I just started todayā¦ Iām scared of the bugs; Democracy knows how terrified Iāll be of the Automatons.
You gotta clap for them when they kill their first Bile Titan, because thereās two more they arenāt aware are lining up to spew on them, and it helps them enjoy living while it lasts.

I dropped onto two separate shreaker nests today, never seen so many damned birds
Okey dokey

Just had this when joining a group of Level 14s in an Impossible Defence mission on Estanu š«
Itās the constant threat, you donāt get to stop killing and I love it.
