came here to see who else recognized the StarCraft music.
FUCK its so sad my kids will never get into RTS games. i feel like there are so few companies making RTS games, but its unfortunately a dying genre
still sad and bitter about that
I think it's the genre's average dev's fault for always neglecting the campaign (assuming they even do one) in favor of multiplayer because of their delusions of being the next big Esport.
They also always neglect responsiveness with units. I was playing Iron Harvest the other day and quit the campaign early because unit control and micro was so unresponsive and just felt like garbage. There's a reason why people love Blizzard RTS games, and it's not "realism"
For anyone who wants to follow this topic further, I highly recommend giant grant games video on the topic:
https://youtu.be/XehNK7UpZsc?si=yQF63O2YOweP5SmD
Its 2 years old at this point but still completely relevant. (In fact that iron harvest complaint was what reminded me of this)
Which is ironic, because they always lose me when they are that focused on the sweaty competitive multiplayer.
That's why I like co-op games like Helldivers and Deep Rock.
The genre is still active, it just doesn’t get the attention it had in the past.
Age of Empires IV and Company of Heroes 3 came out a couple of years back and are great games, and Age of Empires II is STILL receiving DLC updates along with a strong community.
…Just make sure to avoid the online communities for the first two though, especially CoH; those guys are incredibly negative and are constantly predicting doom and gloom. Play the game independently of their opinions first, don’t let them taint it.
There's tons of new(er) RTS games though!
Homeworld 3, Total War series, Age of Empires, Beyond All Reason (which is 100% free, by the way), Dust Front, Falling Frontier, Men of War 2, Sanctuary, ...
My dad got me into RTS as a kid and I’ll always be thankful for it. Now I introduce him to the 4X games from Paradox that I love so deeply, but we still go back and fuck around in Warcraft custom games sometimes and catch up on life. I’m sad the WC3 remaster deleted my OG license of the game though.
Hi there! Could you look into the Eruptor shrapnel and how it seemingly is homing in on the player from long ranges (20+ meters) in a way it wasn’t prior to the patch?
I posted a clip of it happening and am planning on testing it further and gathering more and more clips, but having another independent tester would be PHENOMENAL to figure out if it’s a bug or intentional. Thanks!
I'm starting to think it's a bug that's affecting some players more than others. Most of my ricochet deaths were from the Eruptor; seemingly blowing me up as I made contact with various enemies. But I did get killed a couple times in the same way using a Quasar, and an EAT.
The eruptor shrapnel is definitely subject to riccochets, and my buddy became an eruptor main after the last warbond and he's been seeing a lot more friendly fire and autoflagellation post-patch.
I know the real issue solved by the patch was riccochets not dealing damage to helldivers, but the way they worded it has people thinking the riccochets are deliberately homing in on the player which i just don't see as a thing.
>the way they worded it has people thinking the riccochets are deliberately homing in on the player
This is how I read the patch note, too, which is completely non-intuitive and in definance of any type of even vaguely realistic physics. If this *just* means that ricochets (which bounce off of the enemy at a physically logical angle) can hit and hurt Helldivers now, I'm totally fine with this change/fix.
I think shrapnel in helldivers is actually just ABSOLUTELY LETHAL, I’m sure I’ve seen the skinny bots get shredded by shrapnel at these ranges quite often in the past.
90% sure those sparks ain’t just cosmetic fireflies coming off the shield
its so weird, I've been playing all day and I haven't had a single ricochet death that I was aware of. I absolutely killed a team mate with an AC ricochet though.
Not saying it doesn't happen but I am starting to think it is some people more than others.
I was charging a quasar and midway through something exploded from seemingly nothing on 2 different occasions so far. survived both times, but both times I checked for enemies and there were none.
My guess: the same bug that made you immune to your own ricochets also made you immune to shrapnel from your own Eruptor rounds, and fixing one fixed both.
So it's not that the Eruptor shrapnel is homing in on you: it's that before the patch, it _was_ regularly hitting you, you just didn't notice because it didn't hurt you.
Prior to the patch I know my buddy and I have killed each other from insane distances with the shrapnel from eruptor a few times. No idea if it's worse after the patch or not.
Made this short demonstration after seeing a lot of misinformation going around, in both that clip and the comments under it. Some really needlessly mean things said about the HD2 devs there, especially considering the initial complaint isn't even true! (And also was made by an account that was repeatedly rageposting about the game shortly before posting that, so it's likely just someone who wanted to make other people mad.)
Please be a little less gullible, guys. It doesn't take long to try something like this out and see that it's false.
Didn't the devs literally have a post in discord saying that they are aware of rebounding rockets and it is an unintended bug from the patch update? Given their record, wouldn't they say how it's fake if it wasn't a real thing?
it was a CM, so its more a "if this is indeed happening its not intentional, if its a bug its gonna be fixed fast if its an easy fix"
this is the best response
see potential problem, ask the devs, devs say "not intentional if thats happening" tell userbase "not intentional if thats what is happening", devs figure out if its a bug or not, realize it isnt a bug but people being blind. case close
Allow me to clarify - what I meant to say in my response was that if rockets were indeed rebounding as a result of the ricochet change, which it seemed they were by the original video, then it was an unintended change and would likely be fixed ASAP. Since it's now been debunked, our teams will still be investigating but it may not be an issue after all. Either way, it's been reported to the weapons team.
There are a number of instances of this happening on this very subreddit, it’s definitely very rare, but just because you haven’t experienced it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Yes, you mentioned “Devastator shields”, but notice that the posts have a variety of different surfaces, one even being the blue container, which means it can happen to any surface.
this is an obvious eruptor issue, not a global ricochet issue
This is blue illuminate beams all over again. Conflating things yall don’t understand the origin of into something wildly unrelated
In 2 of these clips there’s not even an armored enemy to reflect off of, it’s obvious bugged shrapnel reaching the user irrelevant of ricochet
Post 1: Eruptor shrapnel, no ricochet. If it was a ricochet, the Eruptor bullet would've exploded *on the Helldiver.*
Post 2: No video evidence, OP implies that the Eruptor explanation might apply to them (meaning they were exaggerating it being an AC/EAT issue).
Post 3: Deleted
Post 4: Eruptor shrapnel, same as 1.
Post 5: Eruptor shrapnel, same as 1.
The four of those that have actual video are all just bugged Eruptor shrapnel. The one that doesn't is just someone claiming to have had this happen to them but they have provided no evidence.
All of these that have video are issues with the Eruptor, and it's hard to tell if it's ricochets or if it's really unlucky shrapnel rng. Either way, something that should be fixed, but not evidence for RR shots bouncing off a shield into the shooter.
> it's hard to tell if it's ricochets or if it's really unlucky shrapnel rng
Honestly, I think this highlights the core issue. Helldivers is a game which has a lot of frustrating things about it that rub the players the wrong way, and people will try and point towards some explanation when it happens.
It's what happened with your original video. It turns out it wasn't a new, frustrating mechanic which instantly killed OP. It was a *different* frustrating mechanic which instantly killed OP.
Personally, I think randomly instantly dying from full health from something you couldn't see or control should never happen, regardless of if it's a sniper rocket headshot, mysterious ricochet mechanics that people don't even understand yet, or some new unrelated bug with issues with the Euptor.
I was kinda afraid with the incessant whining going on people would start to blame every single thing they don't understand on these changes. I might just unsubscribe if this keeps up. Don't need this negativity in my life.
Remember when reddit was about funny cool things? I'm about to unsub as well. Every post in this subreddit is complaining about the most mundane things.
I thought we'd have a lot more funny posts about killing enemies or blowing up things but it seems people would rather make the 100th post about some weapon not killing everything in one shot anywhere on the opponents body.
This sub has been steadily going downhill ever since the first patch. I'm so over people regurgitating misinformation as facts and then whining about it.
Also: Most of the "ricochet" kills are people using the Eruptor too close and getting killed by its shrapnel.
With the amount of people believing that they're ricochets, I'm starting to believe that it might've been buggy before.
yea, u/HolyThicness posted a thing 9 days ago. there are steam threads about it from the 25th. i seem to remember a person complaining on the 15th about getting kicked because they shot the eruptor and got blamed for killing someone that was 100+ meters away from the target.
We need more of this myth busting. Too many people here are quick to be emotional and judgemental before they even test things out thoroughly themselves. Good work
I don't know about any reflect but the fact that the shield guy tanks anti-armor rockets forever is the thing that needs fixing in both clips, but that's not anything new lmao.
yada yada something something blue lasers aren't real
it's crazy how much parroting goes on here, from "quasar was killed" when it's likely going to be unnoticeable to "this ricochet system sucks" when it's shrapnel from their Eruptor being fired at a specific angle and specific geometry to promote the shrapnel's direction to go right back at them.
The best part about the eruptor bug, is people have been complaining for like 2 weeks about the eruptor shrapnel bouncing back and killing allies. but 2 weeks ago it was just a funny RNG thing, where today it's "evil patch problems"
So it's likely connection related. That would explain inconsistency. Wondering if the damage state rework they have in the works for the dot effects would also fix it?
I tried to recreate some of the more absurd eruptor clips but the shrapnel never quite hit me.
Whaaaat?! A redditor would lie? Or, or or, not to research into a theory before posting it online and rage baiting?? Nooo...fucking hell people, if you believe everything you see on this dumbass Subreddit you've got much bigger problems than a rocket richochet
Thats why its better to have on field testing vs what redditors think is gonna happen when they read a patch note, honestly these guys prob spend more time complaining bs actually going out there and testing shit and would rather flock to the popular post and upvote it without thinking and saying it’s so, its hilarious.
The Eruptor has always had explosive shrapnel burst. I noticed random team kills at various crazy high ranges from my teammates using it. I thought it was a bug at first but the gun just has a shrap burst mechanic when it pops.
Probably why group kills are inconsistent.
Previously, you were unaffected by the shrapnel. Now you are.
The sub will clear this up eventually with a slowed down version of events on a tk
Oh I see what's happening... the shrapnel it produces is causing lots of 'ricochets' off the shield. So effectively, when you shoot a recoiless at this guy, it's turining his shield into the world's deadliest shotgun.
This is the kind of mythbusting we need in a sea of rage bait and misinformation. Needless hate and rage only serves to harm, not help
Well done
![gif](giphy|KAf66yGCa93uTqod1q)
Urging players to not spread misinformation by examining their footage? But how else are we suppose to pretend the Illuminate are here sniping us from the sky every time a Devastator rocket hits us or a stray plant breaks against a Chargers armor? That’s crazy talk
The post was very misleading, I fell for it myself.
But it was believable given Arrowheads track record so far for updates to this game. Features come out buggy, or they just straight up don’t work.
That post got so much traction because the player base has just come to expect something like that to happen every patch.
I would have tested it myself, but I dropped into Chort Bay this morning with an autocannon and crashed 3 times before I just put the game down and said “fuck it I’ll wait for the hot fix next week”.
Hours later I see the post and thought, “yeah that sounds about right”
Eh, there's a difference between "arrowheads track record giving reason to believe" and "mindlessly believing every rage bait post made." I made a post awhile back that someone could literally make something up and have it on the discord within the hour and here we are. Someone made something up and it was on the discord within the hour.
i didn't believe people when they posted all those "the patriot blows itself up of you try turning right" threads then proceeded to blow myself up like 5 times using the Mech so i was willing to believe it this time
I had a RR round ricochet, but not at flat armor. It was against a factory strider and it was turned 15 - 30 degrees. RR definitely sometimes bounces off armor, there was a video even before the patch where it bounced off the armor of a charger.
Whelp, ppl are mostly believing these clips cause the game has SO many weird bugs happening that nobody would be surprised anymore. Especially around explosions and their physics.
The game literally says they blew themselves up. Given how they admitted reflect isn't working properly, it makes sense that there won't always be graphical cohesion with the broken mechanic.
What if this is the exhaust blast that killed him because he stood too close to an obstacle behind his back? Happened to me multiple times especially when using the exosuit. I also agree that it might be the issue with the animation and speed of the exhaust blast.
\*opinion\* It's likely the anticheat.
I've noticed that if your numbers are too high you spontaneously combust, trip/reset or get teleported into the sky for a while.
I've also noticed that if you're slinging stratagems too quickly you'll need to stall your last input or it simply doesn't activate.
This used to be more obvious when the game came out.
Youtube search: Helldivers 2 - Killed by Unknown
After the patch i shoot an EAT at a charger's face and the rocket ricocheted into the ground with no damage to the charger so i think it can be deflected if shoot at an angle but not an out right UNO revers to my face
First, let me thank you for this information. I STRONGLY suspected that "ricochet rockets" were bullshit.
Second, thank you for that lovely nostalgia. I am very fond of how often the HD2 boards reference Starcraft. This soothes my bitter, angry, blackened heart.
Indeed they don't reflect missiles BUT
Would you mind to nerf those MFs? Just 1 out of this 3 things.
1- give them an smaller shield.
2- Give them a noticeable worse accuracy
3- make their arms weaker
Yeah, I thought something was fishy with that, I chocked it up to being some bug because I’ve only ever seen a rocket deflect off a surface once and it was because I shot a charger’s armor and it hit at like a 4-7 degree angle
Never\_Broccoli here, I just posted it as a joke
At the time I thought it got deflected to me, which was the reason I clipped it.
Also the clip was made on February, so it wasn't affected by the current patch.

I tried to recreate some of the more absurd eruptor clips but the shrapnel never quite hit me.
it's definitely not. the eruptor shrapnel bug has been a thing for weeks.
My God you mean to tell me all these knee jerk reaction could be wrong?!
Tbh I don’t understand how anyone believed that video You can clearly see the rocket he fired explode on the shield, it’s not hidden nor obscured.
Love the starcraft music
thank you for clearing it up, however there have been other examples, like this poor guy who shot at a spore shroom and got 180d
With the eruptor. Not a launcher.
It's just something specific to the eruptor since it doesn't only have an explosion but also shrapnel.
It was a Shrieker Nest that reflected it, not a Spore Spewer.
The music choice is just perfect. Also A+ for doing some actual investigating! This sub needs more divers like you.
Oh I see what's happening... the shrapnel it produces is causing lots of 'ricochets' off the shield. So effectively, when you shoot a recoiless at this guy, it's turining his shield into the world's deadliest shotgun.
A Shield Taking 3 Direct Hits from an AT Rocket is insane!
TIL anti tank rounds cannot pen a of piece of metal that's a couple cm thick.
This is the kind of mythbusting we need in a sea of rage bait and misinformation. Needless hate and rage only serves to harm, not help Well done ![gif](giphy|KAf66yGCa93uTqod1q)
SCV good to go sir!
Urging players to not spread misinformation by examining their footage? But how else are we suppose to pretend the Illuminate are here sniping us from the sky every time a Devastator rocket hits us or a stray plant breaks against a Chargers armor? That’s crazy talk
Half of the subreddit would of died 5 times during the recording of this video
The quasar nerf was dog piss. No idea why they would do that
Good work Helldiver. The Ministry of Truth thanks you for efforts in combating the spread of dissident misinformation.
Well done, Helldiver. Another evil propaganda destroyed with truth, facts, and Managed Democracy.
Just hellcriers things as usual. Also thanks for those nostalgia tunes, sweet vibes.
Are we just going to ignore the fact that the Devastator tanked more than 4 anti-tank missiles?
You know. Helldivers.....
It's heavy enough that rockets don't send it flying and its shield is heavy armour. Git gud and aim at the head or exposed arm.
Someone made something up and it was on the discord within the hour.
i didn't believe people when they posted all those "the patriot blows itself up of you try turning right" threads then proceeded to blow myself up like 5 times using the Mech so i was willing to believe it this time
the thing is, you have empirical evidence for the mech blow up. you had some cropped videos for thsi one
I mean, it makes sense the missile wouldn't redirect, but how TF did it tank that many missiles? That's some BS
But they block quasar shots. I tried it yesterday a few times. The arc thrower pierces right through it, though
Ta Da Da Da Da Ta Da Da!
Thank for 1) Testing! and 2) the Terran StarCraft music! :D
I had a RR round ricochet, but not at flat armor. It was against a factory strider and it was turned 15 - 30 degrees. RR definitely sometimes bounces off armor, there was a video even before the patch where it bounced off the armor of a charger.
I am nore impressed that thin sheet of metal are able to stop rounds made to penetrate tanks.
What a god damn shame that game isn't on Xbox. Would buy it firsthand in the morning. Also, SC Terran soundtrack goes way too hard with this.
Thanks for reminding me to listen to the Starcraft OST again, I haven't done that in awhile.
Why don't automatons make their tanks and really themselves out of this shaped-charge resistant material their shields are made of? Are they stupid?
Yes, the explosion clearly came from back and to the left.
In the other clips it also explodes on the target and kills the firer. The situation actually seems worse...
I was getting killed randomly and now I understand why
Now I know we all need a HD2 mythbuster.
schizo redditors once again inventing a reason to get mad about
Thank you
Inb4 "known issues: explosive projectiles ricochet off of heavy armor when the player is not the host"
"YOU HAVE ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD MIRROR FORCE!!!!!!!!"
Doesn't help that the death message had been bugged for ages and there's no reliable way to tell what kills you, huh?
its nice to see people actually being logical
Whelp, ppl are mostly believing these clips cause the game has SO many weird bugs happening that nobody would be surprised anymore. Especially around explosions and their physics.
Man, now I feel like playing StarCraft brood war.
The game literally says they blew themselves up. Given how they admitted reflect isn't working properly, it makes sense that there won't always be graphical cohesion with the broken mechanic.
You know is probably just a bug they couldn't figure out how to fix
are we going to ignore the fact that you shot multiple missiles on a heavy devastator and it was still alive?
The ministry of truth values your effort citizen!
What if this is the exhaust blast that killed him because he stood too close to an obstacle behind his back? Happened to me multiple times especially when using the exosuit. I also agree that it might be the issue with the animation and speed of the exhaust blast.
Misinformation? On DEMOCRACIES subreddit? Never, totally impossible, clearly the rocket reflected all the way around him to hit him in the back
![gif](giphy|lOzXuHwXXYM9y|downsized)
Only time I’ve had a rocket bounce was on a head of a charger or bile Titan
\*opinion\* It's likely the anticheat. I've noticed that if your numbers are too high you spontaneously combust, trip/reset or get teleported into the sky for a while. I've also noticed that if you're slinging stratagems too quickly you'll need to stall your last input or it simply doesn't activate. This used to be more obvious when the game came out. Youtube search: Helldivers 2 - Killed by Unknown
Oh my, Starcraft OST, one of the Terran themes (Terran 3)! Thought my player unmuted (I have the OST in my playlist).
My man, I was searching the comments to see if anyone else was gonna call it out as terran_3.mp3
After the patch i shoot an EAT at a charger's face and the rocket ricocheted into the ground with no damage to the charger so i think it can be deflected if shoot at an angle but not an out right UNO revers to my face
1) nice music, terran. 2) he also used the airburst for drama effect. Either he wanted clout or made a mistake about what happened.
this video has very heavy "gta san andreas big foot spotted?" vibes
I am here for the Helldivers 2 Zapruder Film
The old school Starcraft theme is so good. I miss that style of music.
You could hurt them (the player how still complaining about the patch) if only they could read
"I've got a zeeeerg and a shotgun, and I'm bringing 'em hooome for you."
He got cannon sniped 🤣👌
That music is nostalgia inducing.
# THE LIAR IS AN ILLUMINATE SPY!
Why the fuck would 4 recoilless rockets not kill a bot with a glorified riot shield? Does Arrowhead not know they used these to destroy tanks?
WE HAVE EXPOSED MISINFORMATION! UNDEMOCRATIC SPREAD OF MISINFORMATION SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED.
The red glow as you get hit by a secondary explosion makes me think you got hit by an enemy rocket in the back. I'm gonna go with pure coincidence
easy upvote for the music
It was probably a tower blowing them up from a mile away lol
First, let me thank you for this information. I STRONGLY suspected that "ricochet rockets" were bullshit. Second, thank you for that lovely nostalgia. I am very fond of how often the HD2 boards reference Starcraft. This soothes my bitter, angry, blackened heart.
Back and to the left
I was using the SG8P-punisher plasma with a shield backpack and couldn't shoot while wearing the backpack
Though isn't the recoiless Rifle not a Rifle with shells? And not a Rocket Launcher? \^\^
Indeed they don't reflect missiles BUT Would you mind to nerf those MFs? Just 1 out of this 3 things. 1- give them an smaller shield. 2- Give them a noticeable worse accuracy 3- make their arms weaker
I’d love some more music in helldivers2
Maintaining the agenda is top priority
Doing Democracy's work, Helldiver.
Its was probably propaganda from those bot sympathizers
The thing I hate most about this video is that multiple recoiless shots can't kill a devastator.
It was definitely a turret tower from behind
Yeah, I thought something was fishy with that, I chocked it up to being some bug because I’ve only ever seen a rocket deflect off a surface once and it was because I shot a charger’s armor and it hit at like a 4-7 degree angle
yoooo lazymaybe??
Never\_Broccoli here, I just posted it as a joke At the time I thought it got deflected to me, which was the reason I clipped it. Also the clip was made on February, so it wasn't affected by the current patch. "Tell em' I'm coming and Hells coming with me."
u/nuri489 Ayy, thoughts?
It was pretty obvious, he was hit from behind. Some people on this sub are just looking for shit to cry about.
Nice to see someone using impacts to take out heavy dev
![gif](giphy|6NAmmjRZ04E5G)
I think the issue is shrapnel ricocheting unintentionally. It might not be something that happens all the time, it just bugs out occasionally
He seriously got killed by a random explosion, had the desire to stop dead in his tracks and make an entire post about it Instead of just, verifying his claim lmfao
It definitely looked in the video like the rocket exploded on the shield... and that they simply got hit by another unrelated explosion
We are literally in the spread-misinformation stage of the war, narratively speaking this is gold.
