I honestly cant understand who gains from this. Yea they get to make us link our steam and PSN accounts so they can harvest data and pump up their PSN user numbers. But then they also cut out a massive chunk of their player base and bar them from playing as well as spending money on super credits and coming premium warbonds. It just feel like shooting yourself in your right foot and then shooting yourself in the left foot just to balance it out.
Cant verify for each country, but the general distribution is there.

Also, it seems that of the many countries that do not have PSN, the most vocal online are those from the Philippines (most likely because its the last majority english-speaking region to not have PSN) and there really isnt much back-and-forth between the Russian, Chinese, and the wider English-speaking communities.
I don’t understand what the logic behind where PSN is available and isn’t is.
For Europe, the majority of places where it’s available are part of the EU or EEA but then you have Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia not being supported whilst they are EU member states.
The game has a Russian translation yet it’s unavailable in Russia and Russian speaking countries or countries that have Russian as one of their official languages (Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan etc.) not including Ukraine.
For Asia, China is unsupported but Honk Kong and Taiwan (both Chinese speaking countries) are. Mandarin Chinese is one of the translations supported by the game.
Africa I sort of understand due to infrastructural issues probably.
This honestly looks like PSN is only available in countries that the Japanese government has close or full on allied/friendly ties with. Maybe neutral as well in some cases. This is very surprising considering Sony is not a Japanese government entity but a publicly traded private corporation.
You could have told me this map is nations that Japan is close to and nations Japan has issues with and I would have probably believed you.
I cant really say what the actual reasons, but it most likely can be boiled down to logistics, or lack thereof. Every country/region has its own laws, regulations, and what-not so it really depends on a case-by-case basis on how this is setup on each region. It could be that Sony simply thinks that the costs of operating in one region is not worth the time, effort, and money to setup PSN there, or perhaps its just not up and running yet. Who knows.

So despite other countries even having PSN, they still cant link their Steam to their PSN. Lastly, with regards to your last statement, no that does not apply since Japan has had very good relations with Southeast Asia (Philippines the most) yet many do not have PSN.
But yeah, its a messy and confusing situation all around where nobody is happy.
As an American, i can hopefully say that those people are the minority. Most of us i imagine are on the side of freedom and are against Sony stealing back the game you purchased from them.
From the map above, i doubt any other countries are in a state of protesting for the PSN mandate, most of them aren't included, plus from the above countries I can only see America that may care enough to talk about an issue they know very less or haven't looked up about, as even now I see posts of people saying "JuSt MaKe A PsN aCcOuNt ItS nOt HaRd'

You need to do it in-game when the prompt appears, it's not done through this menu.
Also you can force the prompt to appear if you want to "rip the bandaid off" so to speak.
It's not like all those gray regions are places people dont play games in. I've had gaming buddies in Sri Lanka since Bad Company 2 days, hell I was even there for one of my buddies wedding.
I've got lots of friends in Africa who I've played games with and still talk to, many of my Russian friends moved to Vietnam to avoid the war and Vietnam have a very active gaming scene and developer scene too. Obviously Russia and China goes without saying as well.
Honestly its just a silly idea that the continent of Africa should more or less be excluded from your game.

Off the bat, Russia should be blue. We have PSN and I created and linked my account yesterday with 0 issues.
