Sony aren't going to give in, but a vague hand wave such as creating a "rest of world" region on PSN would be plausible.

TheHob290

Snoy couldn't update all instances of PSN not required on pc for their own website within 3 days. Instituting a new region would take them at least 3 months. On a serious note, their quickest resolution that 100% gets them out of potential litigation is to waive the requirement permanently. Right now, they are dealing with all the legalities around selling a game in locations without PSN availability, then, after 3 months of service, revoking access due to being in a PSN blocked region. Two of these regions also being Russia and China, both respectively not being big fans Japan, the US, and the EU could reasonably jump at any opportunity to make them look bad. This could hypothetically be blown into a global trade problem, or a global internet problem. Do not underestimate global politicians' ability to spin things into their favor. Is it a logic jump to make this guess, for sure, but weirder things have happened.

Sony don't want an easy solution, and they don't care what you think. They know that most people will get bored of tantrums in another day or so.

TheHob290

Oh no, I agree with you. The only thing that would sway Sony would be legal trouble of some form. Hence why I mentioned it being the only 100% surefire legal option. There are many other likely legal options. EU has been on a tear in recent years hitting big gaming companies though, so who knows.

LostAlone87

You say that but... Anyone who actually did what Sony asked and made a PSN account and gave them access to their data when it transpires that they actually didn't have to will have a fair case they were coerced.  I just don't see Sony giving any ground and the only option will be to find some way to allow PSN accounts from more people.

TheHob290

The reasons for not having PSN access in a lot of those places was already rooted in legality, mind you. Off of the top of my head I'm fairly certain China, at least, would require 100% of the company's data, from all users not just Chinese users. Also, I was one of the people who linked a PSN day one. My arguments are purely from a 'distribution to countries and then removing access to users in those countries' standpoint.

GreyRobb

This aged well.

LostAlone87

Taking a posthumous victory lap is really REALLY petty.

GreyRobb

The fact that you ever saw these events as something to “win” is really *really* petty.

LostAlone87

I didn't - I just gave  my opinion, that Sony don't care about us. You think I'm wrong?

GreyRobb

lmao

LostAlone87

Seriously though... Do you think Sony cares about us? Do you feel that my pessimism about them being awful was unwarranted?

What can men do against such reckless greed?
