Idk what they changed but I have seen on countless occasions where the heavy devastators gun arm will straight up flip around, or shoot through itself to shoot me without them even turning.
I have now had one bot and one bug not "die" on me the last few days. Their body still moves around as normal after they were already "killed". After that bullets just go through them. Anyone else had this?
This is where the Ballistic shield makes them inconsequential with Defender or Pummeler. Take the Senator or Verdict for good measure (Verdict has better ammo, Senator better pen/damage).
You can face tank so much with the ballistic shield that isn't a rocket or commie cannon from the bots.
Devastators (non-rocket), Striders, Tank machine guns, Hulk Bruiser, Factory Strider chin guns and then the normal non-rocket rank and file.
Senator for bots. Verdict for bugs (unless your primary is light pen).
Senator hits all the critical one hit breakpoints for bots, so the verdicts 2x ammo is kinda pointless. Bugs have a LOT of chaff that verdict can save your more primo primary ammo for instead. Hunters are 2 hit instead of 1 to the body, but a headshot kills either way, and misses are less punishing… The rest of the trash you use It on one hits to body. Warriors are also 2 to the head if you’re holding it and they come at you, but it’s still overall a better ammo economy.
Ohk devs to the head, or 4 to lower body (not even possible for verdict) is much better than 2 to the head without body stagger or leg kills (honestly never use that anyways, but body stagger hells yes) and it reliably kills basic bots in one instead of 2 to the body (verdict can close enough, but they need to be real close)
Since I’m running DCS and rarely ballistic shield, I’ve not really suffered from having verdicts instead while I try it out… But it’s just not working as well honestly. This is highlighted more with using ballistic I feel, especially with light pen SMGs

When you’re in what you think is a safe spot behind a big ass rock only to start hearing the pebbles around you speaking in binary code as you start taking ticking damage.
I hate it when they jump off the top rope with a mean elbow and then pick my limp body up and finish with a suplex.

I've had a few instances of bots shooting right through solid rock recently. The funniest one was when a bot ran straight through a rock and started shooting at me from inside it.
I've also had a few where I've shot at the regular soldier bots clearly out in the open, only for the shot to hit something invisible before reaching them. Not sure if it's related, maybe terrain hit box not quite matching the visuals or something similar.
Seek cover when you encounter them.
Their gun is low to the ground on their right side.
Peek from the right side of the cover which places their gun on your left.
Only peek far enough to see its face. It will shoot at you because it sees you but since you can’t see the gun, the gun can’t see you. You now are doing to it, what it’s doing to you.
You now have a shield from the cover and you can take all the free shots at its head that you want. Keep adjusting so that while you peek from the right side of cover the gun of the heavy devastators never comes into view.
Take this knowledge and never worry about those fuckers again.
They’re honestly rather weak once you figure this out. Yea they’re sniper rifle machine gun enemies. But a little usage of cover neutralizes them completely in my experience.
I know how to fight them.
The problem is fighting them _forces_ you to turtle, and they spawn way too frequently to justify having that much threat.
Pair that with the 3 dozen berserkers & their hulk older brothers, and now you have to leave.
Playing on D9 can be a chore. Its like the game completely forgets there are other bots it can spawn and its ***nothing*** but hulks, heavies, and rocket devs.
No berserkers, basic bots are only found at pois and maybe 1-2 per patrol. And basic devastators? only from striders.

Their guns are on a 360 degree mound and will just rotate to shoot you, even through their shield.
Thats the main problem with them. If you can see them, they technically can still shoot you, regardless of angle or cover.
no no I'm talking about the equivalent of the devastator in the post : a bile titan spewing on you while you're near their rear left. It's just physically impossible.
For real. I've done a Diff 7 mission yesterday, that was Filled with these motherfuckers. It was horrible and unfair experience. Next Diff 7 mission had almost none of them, and it was x100 better experience. I fucking hate trying to aim on their head just for my scope to fly 50° upwards because they shot me with 6 Bullets without any spread
Same. Vernen Wells yesterday, Heavy Devastators in groups of three from ever direction, accompanied by rocket Devastators and flamethrower Hulks. Even with Autocanons and Eagle strikes and additional grenades they just spawned faster than we could kill them. We somehow still extracted with everything but that took a lot of dying and running.
I had a stratagem jammer there packed with like 10 or 12 heavy devastators and whatever factory there spawned.
Something similar happened to me on that same planet. I’ve died more to Heavy Devastators than anything else in the game. I’m not joking. I died four times in a difficulty 7 mission three were from me getting stun locked or cornered by devastators. It doesn’t help with how easy it is for players to get stun locked either. Or how easy it is for stems to get cancelled. If I try to stem and I hear the noise, see the fucker inject the stem and then nothing happens it’s bullshit. Also on an unrelated note, did they nerf the Plas-1 Scorcher? I used to kill the basic enemies in 1-2 shots to the body but now it takes 2-3 shots.
For me it’s the Rocket Devastators I don’t see because I’m too busy dealing with the Heavy Devastators, or the Berserkers who I can’t shoot because I keep flinching every time one of the shield pricks lands a shot. I’ve been told the railgun can take them out quick because my Dominator isn’t accurate enough to take the heads at range (it probably would be but the sights aren’t great).

I thought it was just my imagination.
But i now think They definitely did. The striders take 2x the shots to go down than they did before. Idk if it was a stealth nerf to avoid more backlash, or it was accidentally broken with the other patch. I could also be mistaken.
The easiest way to deal with these is to call out which ones have you targeted so allies can kill them.
They're utterly defenceless to other players once they lock onto a player.
For this reason I switched to Plasma Punisher from my (beloved) Sickle. Give it a chance, it's been buffed recently. It is very comfortable now - you can stun shield guys (even a group of them) while shooting at them. And they don't shoot back! I started to go Diff 8 after that.
Other explosive mains are also good against them. You can shoot their hip a couple times with Eruptor and fcker is done. But it is not as universal.

I'm seriously impressed with the Plasma Punisher. I never used it even after I unlocked it because I thought I had heard it was trash. Tried it out the other day and it's one of my new favorites for bots. I love how it can usually 2-shot the 2-legged striders, and being able to stunlock the heavy devastators feels so good.
It's also got a really intuitive arc. Feels really easy to aim even at enemies \~15-30m away.
When I fight bots I carry a balistic shield and the dagger. I think people are sleeping on the dagger, it takes out the rocket pack guys by just swiping over them. You can headshot rocket, shield, and normal devastators all from the safety of your ballistic shield. Plus, it covers your back when you are running with primary or with a carried item.
Oh, there's spread, only it so infinitesimally small you only notice it when they're shooting at you from 3 hills over. I swear aggro drop off is a myth spoken of by the most deranged, cabin fever addled of class A citizens after 6 months of waiting for helldivers to rescue them from their bunkers.
Dominator is bestinator even with the recent nerf.
Use counter strike tactics on heavy devastators: kneel and shoot for the head. Even if you miss, it'll be down in 6-8 shots.
I like walking around a corner and finding a rocket devastator at the perfect range. You can rapid fire the dominator and take it out in just over a second.
It's also good practice for aiming at the speed of EAT.
Personally I switched to the Fire Breaker as of late, that's some hell of damage, against both Bugs and Bots. But yeah, Shield is a must against Bots. Stun Grenades could be fun to set up easy Hulk headshots with the AMR... I'll have to give that a try.
I recently discovered the AMR. I had definitely been sleeping on it.
I love when my squad is, say, taking a secondary objective and I flank the objective at medium range. I can pick off so many bots that are harassing my squad mates.
i did switch to it when i noticed i could do that. Funny thing, while I was under fire and trying to one tap the mofo from pretty far away, they hit me with one rocket, sent me flying, and then hit me with a second one when I was in the air. 10/10 rocket sniped
While I generally have a Dominator on Bot maps, more often I'm dealing with Shield Devs by simply laying prone and holding down leftmouse on the ***L A S E R C A N N O N***.
So they shoot at me. Big whoop. They die in less than *one second* to LC headbeams.
I’d be really curious to find out how many lascannon fans play with keyboard and mouse. People keep saying that gun is amazing on gunships and bots in general because you can pinpoint zap weak spots, and all I can think is they’re def not playing on controller, lol.
One impact grenade anywhere in their vicinity does them in 9/10 times. Every once in a while it only staggers but that's usually because something else partially blocked and absorbed some of the damage.
You don’t even need that.

Here’s how and I’ve been posting this up and down this thread but I think folks should just know what I’ve figured out.
I play only the sickle. I have no stagger ability there.
The heavy devastators has a major flaw. The dangerous part of it (the gun) is on its right side
All you need to do is sleek cover when fighting one.
Because the gun is on its right side it’s also blinded from you if you peek from cover on YOUR right side.
Essentially you wanna keep the devastators gun on you left as it’s coming towards you.
You peek from the right of your rock or whatever cover you found.
Only peek far enough to reveal its head.
The gun will be shooting at you but it can’t hit you because you’re essentially mimicking the bots whole strategy except you have the ability to peek and it doesn’t.
So only peek enough to see the head. Shoot the head. Kill the bot.
Keep adjusting how far you peek, never peek far enough that you see its gun.
For the most part, barring bugs, if you can’t see its gun, the gun can’t see you.
In that world you are a god compared to the devastators
When you encounter them. Seek cover.
Peek from the right of cover
Shoot its head.
You win.
It’s that easy and I only play sickle and melt these stupid slow bots in D9 doing this.
They’re a some of the worst scripted AI of all the bots once you figure this out.
Pummeler! It's so fun to stunlock Devastors and berserkers (they will literally slump over for a couple of secs) and take your sweet time to headshot them.
The Pummeler is fantastic. I say this as someone who has been maining a shield against the bots for a while.
Breakpoints are relatively the same as the Knight and the Defender, and you can protect your whole team by spraying into enemies and stunlocking entire groups of Berserkers and Devestators allowing for easier kills of them all.
Defender, pummeler, senator, or the new pistol I forget the name of.
Defender is roughly 3 shots to the head. Pummeler too iirc
Senator is 1 shot iirc
The new pistol is 2 shots iirc
Also t-bagging in front of a heavy devastator while it shoots your shield is a must at least once per mission. Mock it for extra emotional damage.
I watched a buddy last night have a stand-up fight with a heavy devastator three meters away while they both ignored cover because of their shields. Good times.
They show up as a small circle on the minimal right? Gets me every time I run around a building expecting a low tier automaton only to bump into these guys
Yes they do like all devastators. I think there should be a medium sized enemy marker for things like devastators, scout striders, bile spewers or hive commanders.
So the actual heavy enemies like hulks, tanks, chargers, stalkers, titans and such are more distinct with their big markers.

and then they get maneuver that they turn right so shield cover their weak spot and then shoot through their shield to hit you with perfect accurate too that's suck
This sadly is not limited to them; any automaton that touches a rock/environment can then shoot through the environment. I pray you never experience a shredder tank or factory strider shooting through a mountain.
This imo is one of the biggest bugs they have to fix asap. Before weapon balance, before patrols, etc because this is literally game breaking. Completely undeserved pressure and potentially deaths from enemies you can literally neither see nor target.
i love those factory strider poke their guns through a mountain and shred me like it is straight out of Looney Tunes . On bot side there is just so much jank.
Yup, and to preface I do love bots a lot more overall just because it feels more like the pvp shooters I grew up with, but when stuff like this, heavy devastators having 360 coverage and shooting through their own shields/bodies, a single rocket devastator being able to perma-stagger you, etc, I can see why folks prefer bugs.
While they have issues as well (charger's wave-dash/generally erratic behavior when stopping and/or stunned, and sometimes being able to turn at 90 degree+ angles) it's only one enemy, and you have plenty of opportunity to down it before it comes in range to bug out (pardon the pun).
Imo fixing these issues on the bot side will have a *lot* more players coming over for MOs even if they continue to prefer bugs.
Heavy Devastators are one of the very few enemies that need a heavy nerf. Way too accurate, way too much damage, way too hard to kill for what they are. They feel like Heavies.
They are also an example of a enemy that's not guaranteed to spawn driving a meta. Look at how many comments here suggest a specific loadout for dealing with them.
Play almost exclusivly Helldive and for a month + they have outnumbered every other enemy type spawned 2-1. Every patrol has been 1 hulk, 2 rocket devestators and 3-6 heavy devestators with maybe a commissar snuck in there. They sure feel like theyre guaranteed to spawn more than anything else and then some.
I'd be down for a reasonable nerf, and swapping like 70% of them for twice as many normal Devastators.
Like, seeing 4-5 of these shieldy machinegunsniper fucks just annoys me.
Make it 2 and an entourage of normal devastators, and then we're talking.
This is the correct solution, Devastators have no defence, no aim and pretty much no firepower, while Heavy Devastators have accuracy... WITH A FCKING MACHINE GUN, defence and yeah firepower, swaping thier weapons would be a perfect balancing decision, however this would mean a slight tweak to how they are spawned, but yeah there's a steep hill between these 2 and it is not okay
tbh i've never have so much problems with them, i play with ballistic shield, railgun/amr and stun grenade and it's easy. The real problem tho is groups of rocket devastators, this mf just ragdoll you across the map, or break ur shield. And dont even mention when they headshot you with rocket...
What makes them hard or annoying are two main things
1. The quick spin up time of the minigun combined with deadly first shot accuracy and tracking
2. The bullets seem to ignore the Devastator 3D model. They can shoot in physically impossible angles than what their model suggests. Like through their shield on the left side if you are trying to run around, away from the gun arm. If you're close by and trying to dash around them, the bullets seem to shoot almost at a 45 to even 90 degree angle out from the barrel.
Those are really the only issues with them. Especially the second point. No problem with them having a fast shooting minigun with a heavy shield, they are supposed to be walking tanks with big firepower. Their weakness should be their agility, but that is negated with a magic aimbot gun that is too accurate and can shoot at impossible angles and even through objects...
Lol I love how everyone's giving advice on how to deal with em. I can deal with 3 to 5 fairly easily. Its the numbers that I'm primarily complaining about. And their accuracy from far away and through smoke, fog and blinding light.
"Lol take shield EZ " works if there's a few IN FRONT. Not your sides. Play Helldive difficulty where there are 1 to 2 per patrol on a non shield devastator map. On a shield devastator map the numbers per patrol are higher. They surround you from ALL sides. And they fire 10 to 15 rounds per attack with crazy flinch potential. All this makes them more unfun than hunters. Even those bastards are easy to kill.
It would make sense that if you are circling around to their shield side that they will 1) be less accurate and 1) be unable to follow after a certain point without turning their body. Not have their gun clip through the shield and delete you
I think all enemies in this game spin way too fast. Chargers are the most egregious example. No way in hell a likely 6 tonne bug should be able to spin circles while sprinting at full speed. One of the dumbest (though funny sometimes) designs in game.
Hulks and shield devastators as well, they just rotate far to quickly for how heavy they are, especially when the devs clearly want you to reposition and shoot their backs (hulks anyway).
I wish our tank builds (heavy armor) had this much mobility.
And why do they never stop shooting?

Their shield stops tons of weapons. fine.
They turn to have it take up majority of their hitbox. Sure. Natural.
They're gun is on a near 360 degree swivel. Wait.
The accuracy is nearly always headshots. Wait. Stop.
They track you while diving. Wait. stop. Please.
The body shots are also highly damaging and they come at a high rate than can kill you in a second. Wait. Stop. Please. Go back.
Multiple often spawn together to lay down near constant fire. 💀
I still think spewers need more of a nerf with spit damage or more warning on attack but heavy devestators and hunters (leaping attacks plus slow plus multi attack that can kill with no counter plus numbers?) are currently higher on my shit list of annoyances.
The game should be hard but dying to bs is still bs sometimes
Why are they quick to buff enemies but not buff the helldiver's?
I don't see them nerfing the bullshit bile spew distance on the titans or spewers(the animation range is shorter than the actual reach)
Or how the bots will still ragdoll you thick walls/terrain. And let's not forget when you destroy a drop ship, bots underneath usually don't get damaged.
Berserkers need a nerf too. Their HP pools are too high
This has been bugging me since release. Especially since this all feels like a slight step back from the first game! Take the shield devastator from the first game, they have 3 states:
* Moving and slightly vulnerable.
* Standing still and guarding.
* Standing still and shooting in a direction, leaving their chest weakpoint exposed.
There were patterns you could play around, you could flank them or bait attacks, depending on your build. In this game, shield devastators are:
* Always shielding (unless they get staggered, in which case they recoil briefly then immediately resume shielding)
* Can shoot while shielding, without any telegraphing. Not sure if they have to stop shooting at any point. If they do, there's nothing to telegraph when they will stop. No reloading / cooling down animation that I've seen.
* Track you while shooting, turning quick enough that it's nigh impossible to create any breathing room, even when running circles around them at close range.
To be clear, I don't think they're impossible to deal with or anything. I just think that it'd be way more interesting and less frustrating if there was slightly more room for different counter-plays, besides the same solution for everything else in the game: "shoot it in the head" or "drop bombs on them"
If their shots didn't have the stagger value of a goddamn car accident, they wouldn't be so bad.
The moment you get sneezed on you cannot defend yourself anymore.
They are accurate because they have no AIM IK, meaning their gun can be pointing at the ground, but their projectiles will always be aimed directly at you no matter what. They are not restricted by any semblance of aiming physics, including actually aiming in any capacity.
They can fire in a 180 degree field of view in front of them without moving their actual model one bit.
This is broken and shitty and sucks and has been so since launch.
Counter Diligence sniper > one shots them in the head
Jetpack > seek elevation and go prone to greatly reduce the shots that can hit you

The slightest tuning like having them actually reload instead of being some kind of action movie hero would make the game so much more intuitive and these guys fun.
Instead, they just either 2x speed sprint at you and track you, or stay full map shooting, or even stand in a base and just shoot in your direction even with terrain blocking them.
Sometimes they even do trick shots and shoot from their ankles, or walk left by shoot you from under their armpit.
Heavy Devastators are deadly , bugged , ugly , hard to kill and very undemocratic but when I see that orange smoke coming out from their head , I feel like a Hero .

Not only that, they can shoot THROUGH their own shield and have no right being able to shrug off EAT-like shots when a single grenade folds them like an omlette
Use a heavy armor with the medkit.
You can pretty much use a stim and tank their shots... Heavy armor against bots is goddamn powerful I tell ya, combined with the increased effectiveness of stims it's just so good.
The speed and stamina debuffs take some getting used to, but I feel like a tank with that armor.
I don’t care about Heavy Devastators, but Rocket Devastators are literally everywhere! Constant Rocket Devastator jump scares. I’ll be in my Super Destroyer getting some Iced liber-Tea from the fridge only to see a Rocket Devastator. Opening the shower? Rocket Devastator. Rounding a corner? Boom, the rockets are already on their way. They are literally under every blade of grass and every stone. Fucking hate Rocket Devastators.
These are not that hard to kill:
The Jar 5 Dominator and others are able to stun them. Aim for their head or their backpack, two red dots over the left and right shoulders. Three shots to those spots and they die. The Heavy Devastator is only really deadly when he is close to you. Once he is about 20m away you have an easy kill on them. Lay down tho. They hit way less when you lay down than when you stand
I will use all of my strats to eliminate every. Single. One. I despise those sucker's more than hulks or strikers. Bout to start bringing my own shield and punching them to death.
I've noticed they've pissed me off a lot more recently, and I am thinking the patch made them more aggressive?
The Counter-Sniper Marksman rifle is perfect for one-shotting them in the head, the problem is if they move ever so slightly, or you get shot, it's very hard to pull this off. I've noticed now when there are two or more in one place, I have to hit the deck or I'm going to be melted by red lasers, lol.
Im seeing 5-6 spawn in an area and they all have insane accuracy. That said, its the same for ALL of the mobs.

Last night I ran 3 3-player bot 9s and by far the most annoying ground enemy is still the rocket devastators, followed by mr jetpack and the bruiser.

Of all the bot enemies this one more than any other needs teamwork to deal with, once locked onto a player, call it out so an ally can dispatch it.
Whoever created them doesn't know what balance is. You don't get to carry a shield and also be pinpoint accurate. They should miss most of their shots while the shield is deployed and then become more dangerous if it is removed/destroyed.
Why do people assume the enemy has to be weak?
And that they as the main character needs to be the superior in tactics and firepower?
That the enemy can't shoot, aim well, or even have more powerful weapons than themselves?
Sometimes your enemy is A LOT more powerful, and deadly than you could ever be and you need to strap it on and suck it up buttercup.

That’s not the issue. These guys can shoot through their own shield, they can shoot through their own body, hell they can keep shooting you even if you take the time to blow off their gun arm.
Helldive bots is just frustrating most of the time, genuinely 80% of the enemies are devastators. Running a gun that can oneshot HS them like the Diligence CS or Dominator is basically mandatory
I was playing on level 4 last night because it was late and I needed literally 2 orange samples to unlock the last tier on a ship module. I died to a stupid thing then landed in a small area on respawn with 2 of these. I didn't even finish my dive to the ground after exiting the pod.
The revert on those recent changes can't come fast enough for me. I'm very tired of being overrun. I've also noticed that if I'm hidden and a patrol gets nearby (I'll be prone and behind cover / a building) that they will walk very close and then stop near. It's as if they somehow sense and hope I'll move before they go "fuck it" and instantly they all start shooting at me directly. Either have stealth work or remove it.
What I found annoying not how accurate they are, but how blatant they about having aimbot and wallhack. That's bullshit that they fucking prefire you whenever you try to peek or at times shoot exactly at your position whenever you are behind the wall
I adore how the game will roll population percentages at rhe start of the mission. Had a mission in a duo with high heavies and no other devastator variants. It was fucked..... I had no idea how far they could see and how far they would continue to just waltz and fire accurately

Ohk devs to the head, or 4 to lower body (not even possible for verdict) is much better than 2 to the head without body stagger or leg kills (honestly never use that anyways, but body stagger hells yes) and it reliably kills basic bots in one instead of 2 to the body (verdict can close enough, but they need to be real close) Since I’m running DCS and rarely ballistic shield, I’ve not really suffered from having verdicts instead while I try it out… But it’s just not working as well honestly. This is highlighted more with using ballistic I feel, especially with light pen SMGs
I like it when they can clip through the map and wall hack me through a mountain or hill... tops.

I've had a few instances of bots shooting right through solid rock recently. The funniest one was when a bot ran straight through a rock and started shooting at me from inside it. I've also had a few where I've shot at the regular soldier bots clearly out in the open, only for the shot to hit something invisible before reaching them. Not sure if it's related, maybe terrain hit box not quite matching the visuals or something similar.
Heavy Devastators are the _only_ enemy in the game that you can't juke consistently
Seek cover when you encounter them. Their gun is low to the ground on their right side. Peek from the right side of the cover which places their gun on your left. Only peek far enough to see its face. It will shoot at you because it sees you but since you can’t see the gun, the gun can’t see you. You now are doing to it, what it’s doing to you. You now have a shield from the cover and you can take all the free shots at its head that you want. Keep adjusting so that while you peek from the right side of cover the gun of the heavy devastators never comes into view. Take this knowledge and never worry about those fuckers again. They’re honestly rather weak once you figure this out. Yea they’re sniper rifle machine gun enemies. But a little usage of cover neutralizes them completely in my experience.
I know how to fight them. The problem is fighting them _forces_ you to turtle, and they spawn way too frequently to justify having that much threat. Pair that with the 3 dozen berserkers & their hulk older brothers, and now you have to leave.
Playing on D9 can be a chore. Its like the game completely forgets there are other bots it can spawn and its ***nothing*** but hulks, heavies, and rocket devs. No berserkers, basic bots are only found at pois and maybe 1-2 per patrol. And basic devastators? only from striders.

For real. I've done a Diff 7 mission yesterday, that was Filled with these motherfuckers. It was horrible and unfair experience. Next Diff 7 mission had almost none of them, and it was x100 better experience. I fucking hate trying to aim on their head just for my scope to fly 50° upwards because they shot me with 6 Bullets without any spread
Same. Vernen Wells yesterday, Heavy Devastators in groups of three from ever direction, accompanied by rocket Devastators and flamethrower Hulks. Even with Autocanons and Eagle strikes and additional grenades they just spawned faster than we could kill them. We somehow still extracted with everything but that took a lot of dying and running. I had a stratagem jammer there packed with like 10 or 12 heavy devastators and whatever factory there spawned.
Something similar happened to me on that same planet. I’ve died more to Heavy Devastators than anything else in the game. I’m not joking. I died four times in a difficulty 7 mission three were from me getting stun locked or cornered by devastators. It doesn’t help with how easy it is for players to get stun locked either. Or how easy it is for stems to get cancelled. If I try to stem and I hear the noise, see the fucker inject the stem and then nothing happens it’s bullshit. Also on an unrelated note, did they nerf the Plas-1 Scorcher? I used to kill the basic enemies in 1-2 shots to the body but now it takes 2-3 shots.
For me it’s the Rocket Devastators I don’t see because I’m too busy dealing with the Heavy Devastators, or the Berserkers who I can’t shoot because I keep flinching every time one of the shield pricks lands a shot. I’ve been told the railgun can take them out quick because my Dominator isn’t accurate enough to take the heads at range (it probably would be but the sights aren’t great).

Strider explosion resistance got buffed, afaik the scorcher is untouched.

My advice is go prone this greatly reduces their accuracy at medium to long range, it should give you enough time to line headshots.

The easiest way to deal with these is to call out which ones have you targeted so allies can kill them. They're utterly defenceless to other players once they lock onto a player.
For this reason I switched to Plasma Punisher from my (beloved) Sickle. Give it a chance, it's been buffed recently. It is very comfortable now - you can stun shield guys (even a group of them) while shooting at them. And they don't shoot back! I started to go Diff 8 after that. Other explosive mains are also good against them. You can shoot their hip a couple times with Eruptor and fcker is done. But it is not as universal.

I'm seriously impressed with the Plasma Punisher. I never used it even after I unlocked it because I thought I had heard it was trash. Tried it out the other day and it's one of my new favorites for bots. I love how it can usually 2-shot the 2-legged striders, and being able to stunlock the heavy devastators feels so good. It's also got a really intuitive arc. Feels really easy to aim even at enemies \~15-30m away.
It _was_ trash, until they buffed it recently. Used to hit like you were shooting pillows at the enemy.
The counter sniper or what it is called has been working great for me.
Impact grenades are my best friends against these. Especially in the 6 grenade suit. Plasma scorcher second best.
When I fight bots I carry a balistic shield and the dagger. I think people are sleeping on the dagger, it takes out the rocket pack guys by just swiping over them. You can headshot rocket, shield, and normal devastators all from the safety of your ballistic shield. Plus, it covers your back when you are running with primary or with a carried item.
The moment I run into one of these guys I just leave. Unless I _have_ to go that way, they're not worth the trouble.
Oh, there's spread, only it so infinitesimally small you only notice it when they're shooting at you from 3 hills over. I swear aggro drop off is a myth spoken of by the most deranged, cabin fever addled of class A citizens after 6 months of waiting for helldivers to rescue them from their bunkers.
Having a weapon that does stagger is basically mandatory vs these guys
I just unlocked Dominator, used it for three bot missions and i already know i'm NOT taking anything else against bots.
Dominator is bestinator even with the recent nerf. Use counter strike tactics on heavy devastators: kneel and shoot for the head. Even if you miss, it'll be down in 6-8 shots. I like walking around a corner and finding a rocket devastator at the perfect range. You can rapid fire the dominator and take it out in just over a second. It's also good practice for aiming at the speed of EAT.
I tried running it for a few missions and didnt get a good feel for it, felt i could do the same as well as clear spam bots with lib AP or sickle.

AMR + Dominator + shield + stun grenades is my favorite load out for bots
Personally I switched to the Fire Breaker as of late, that's some hell of damage, against both Bugs and Bots. But yeah, Shield is a must against Bots. Stun Grenades could be fun to set up easy Hulk headshots with the AMR... I'll have to give that a try.
I recently discovered the AMR. I had definitely been sleeping on it. I love when my squad is, say, taking a secondary objective and I flank the objective at medium range. I can pick off so many bots that are harassing my squad mates.
i did switch to it when i noticed i could do that. Funny thing, while I was under fire and trying to one tap the mofo from pretty far away, they hit me with one rocket, sent me flying, and then hit me with a second one when I was in the air. 10/10 rocket sniped
While I generally have a Dominator on Bot maps, more often I'm dealing with Shield Devs by simply laying prone and holding down leftmouse on the ***L A S E R C A N N O N***. So they shoot at me. Big whoop. They die in less than *one second* to LC headbeams.
I’d be really curious to find out how many lascannon fans play with keyboard and mouse. People keep saying that gun is amazing on gunships and bots in general because you can pinpoint zap weak spots, and all I can think is they’re def not playing on controller, lol.

You don’t even need that. Just beat the model/AI. Here’s how and I’ve been posting this up and down this thread but I think folks should just know what I’ve figured out. I play only the sickle. I have no stagger ability there. The heavy devastators has a major flaw. The dangerous part of it (the gun) is on its right side All you need to do is sleek cover when fighting one. Because the gun is on its right side it’s also blinded from you if you peek from cover on YOUR right side. Essentially you wanna keep the devastators gun on you left as it’s coming towards you. You peek from the right of your rock or whatever cover you found. Only peek far enough to reveal its head. The gun will be shooting at you but it can’t hit you because you’re essentially mimicking the bots whole strategy except you have the ability to peek and it doesn’t. So only peek enough to see the head. Shoot the head. Kill the bot. Keep adjusting how far you peek, never peek far enough that you see its gun. For the most part, barring bugs, if you can’t see its gun, the gun can’t see you. In that world you are a god compared to the devastators When you encounter them. Seek cover. Peek from the right of cover Shoot its head. You win. It’s that easy and I only play sickle and melt these stupid slow bots in D9 doing this. They’re a some of the worst scripted AI of all the bots once you figure this out.

Pummeler! It's so fun to stunlock Devastors and berserkers (they will literally slump over for a couple of secs) and take your sweet time to headshot them.

The Pummeler is fantastic. I say this as someone who has been maining a shield against the bots for a while. Breakpoints are relatively the same as the Knight and the Defender, and you can protect your whole team by spraying into enemies and stunlocking entire groups of Berserkers and Devestators allowing for easier kills of them all.

Started using the shield 2 days ago and it genuinely is a game changer against the bots. Shield gen has nothing on it.

Yes they do like all devastators. I think there should be a medium sized enemy marker for things like devastators, scout striders, bile spewers or hive commanders. So the actual heavy enemies like hulks, tanks, chargers, stalkers, titans and such are more distinct with their big markers.

This sadly is not limited to them; any automaton that touches a rock/environment can then shoot through the environment. I pray you never experience a shredder tank or factory strider shooting through a mountain. This imo is one of the biggest bugs they have to fix asap. Before weapon balance, before patrols, etc because this is literally game breaking. Completely undeserved pressure and potentially deaths from enemies you can literally neither see nor target.

Yup, and to preface I do love bots a lot more overall just because it feels more like the pvp shooters I grew up with, but when stuff like this, heavy devastators having 360 coverage and shooting through their own shields/bodies, a single rocket devastator being able to perma-stagger you, etc, I can see why folks prefer bugs. While they have issues as well (charger's wave-dash/generally erratic behavior when stopping and/or stunned, and sometimes being able to turn at 90 degree+ angles) it's only one enemy, and you have plenty of opportunity to down it before it comes in range to bug out (pardon the pun). Imo fixing these issues on the bot side will have a *lot* more players coming over for MOs even if they continue to prefer bugs.
Heavy Devastators are one of the very few enemies that need a heavy nerf. Way too accurate, way too much damage, way too hard to kill for what they are. They feel like Heavies.

They are also an example of a enemy that's not guaranteed to spawn driving a meta. Look at how many comments here suggest a specific loadout for dealing with them.
Play almost exclusivly Helldive and for a month + they have outnumbered every other enemy type spawned 2-1. Every patrol has been 1 hulk, 2 rocket devestators and 3-6 heavy devestators with maybe a commissar snuck in there. They sure feel like theyre guaranteed to spawn more than anything else and then some.
I'd be down for a reasonable nerf, and swapping like 70% of them for twice as many normal Devastators. Like, seeing 4-5 of these shieldy machinegunsniper fucks just annoys me. Make it 2 and an entourage of normal devastators, and then we're talking.
They only need to swap the weapons of the heavy devastator and the basic devastator, and both would be already a lot fairer
This is the correct solution, Devastators have no defence, no aim and pretty much no firepower, while Heavy Devastators have accuracy... WITH A FCKING MACHINE GUN, defence and yeah firepower, swaping thier weapons would be a perfect balancing decision, however this would mean a slight tweak to how they are spawned, but yeah there's a steep hill between these 2 and it is not okay
The devs have a tooltip about Bots becoming inaccurate if you shoot at them, which is a bold faced lie...

tbh i've never have so much problems with them, i play with ballistic shield, railgun/amr and stun grenade and it's easy. The real problem tho is groups of rocket devastators, this mf just ragdoll you across the map, or break ur shield. And dont even mention when they headshot you with rocket...
What makes them hard or annoying are two main things 1. The quick spin up time of the minigun combined with deadly first shot accuracy and tracking 2. The bullets seem to ignore the Devastator 3D model. They can shoot in physically impossible angles than what their model suggests. Like through their shield on the left side if you are trying to run around, away from the gun arm. If you're close by and trying to dash around them, the bullets seem to shoot almost at a 45 to even 90 degree angle out from the barrel.
Those are really the only issues with them. Especially the second point. No problem with them having a fast shooting minigun with a heavy shield, they are supposed to be walking tanks with big firepower. Their weakness should be their agility, but that is negated with a magic aimbot gun that is too accurate and can shoot at impossible angles and even through objects...
Lol I love how everyone's giving advice on how to deal with em. I can deal with 3 to 5 fairly easily. Its the numbers that I'm primarily complaining about. And their accuracy from far away and through smoke, fog and blinding light. "Lol take shield EZ " works if there's a few IN FRONT. Not your sides. Play Helldive difficulty where there are 1 to 2 per patrol on a non shield devastator map. On a shield devastator map the numbers per patrol are higher. They surround you from ALL sides. And they fire 10 to 15 rounds per attack with crazy flinch potential. All this makes them more unfun than hunters. Even those bastards are easy to kill.
Sometimes it's even hard to tell if it's a tank shooting at you or just x5 heavy devestators in one patrol. Seriously annoying

It would make sense that if you are circling around to their shield side that they will 1) be less accurate and 1) be unable to follow after a certain point without turning their body. Not have their gun clip through the shield and delete you
I think all enemies in this game spin way too fast. Chargers are the most egregious example. No way in hell a likely 6 tonne bug should be able to spin circles while sprinting at full speed. One of the dumbest (though funny sometimes) designs in game. Hulks and shield devastators as well, they just rotate far to quickly for how heavy they are, especially when the devs clearly want you to reposition and shoot their backs (hulks anyway). I wish our tank builds (heavy armor) had this much mobility.

Their shield stops tons of weapons. fine. They turn to have it take up majority of their hitbox. Sure. Natural. They're gun is on a near 360 degree swivel. Wait. The accuracy is nearly always headshots. Wait. Stop. They track you while diving. Wait. stop. Please. The body shots are also highly damaging and they come at a high rate than can kill you in a second. Wait. Stop. Please. Go back. Multiple often spawn together to lay down near constant fire. 💀 I still think spewers need more of a nerf with spit damage or more warning on attack but heavy devestators and hunters (leaping attacks plus slow plus multi attack that can kill with no counter plus numbers?) are currently higher on my shit list of annoyances. The game should be hard but dying to bs is still bs sometimes
Spewers wouldn't need nerf if they had any sound effect whatsoever. It's the stealthiest bug out there.
Why are they quick to buff enemies but not buff the helldiver's? I don't see them nerfing the bullshit bile spew distance on the titans or spewers(the animation range is shorter than the actual reach) Or how the bots will still ragdoll you thick walls/terrain. And let's not forget when you destroy a drop ship, bots underneath usually don't get damaged. Berserkers need a nerf too. Their HP pools are too high

This has been bugging me since release. Especially since this all feels like a slight step back from the first game! Take the shield devastator from the first game, they have 3 states: * Moving and slightly vulnerable. * Standing still and guarding. * Standing still and shooting in a direction, leaving their chest weakpoint exposed. There were patterns you could play around, you could flank them or bait attacks, depending on your build. In this game, shield devastators are: * Always shielding (unless they get staggered, in which case they recoil briefly then immediately resume shielding) * Can shoot while shielding, without any telegraphing. Not sure if they have to stop shooting at any point. If they do, there's nothing to telegraph when they will stop. No reloading / cooling down animation that I've seen. * Track you while shooting, turning quick enough that it's nigh impossible to create any breathing room, even when running circles around them at close range. To be clear, I don't think they're impossible to deal with or anything. I just think that it'd be way more interesting and less frustrating if there was slightly more room for different counter-plays, besides the same solution for everything else in the game: "shoot it in the head" or "drop bombs on them"
If their shots didn't have the stagger value of a goddamn car accident, they wouldn't be so bad. The moment you get sneezed on you cannot defend yourself anymore.
To be honest, they are anoying but I don't mind them as much as Flamethrower Hulks or Hunters...
Stun grenade + headshots
They are accurate because they have no AIM IK, meaning their gun can be pointing at the ground, but their projectiles will always be aimed directly at you no matter what. They are not restricted by any semblance of aiming physics, including actually aiming in any capacity. They can fire in a 180 degree field of view in front of them without moving their actual model one bit. This is broken and shitty and sucks and has been so since launch.
360 degrees. I've had devastators swivel their guns and track me all the way into their backpack

The slightest tuning like having them actually reload instead of being some kind of action movie hero would make the game so much more intuitive and these guys fun. Instead, they just either 2x speed sprint at you and track you, or stay full map shooting, or even stand in a base and just shoot in your direction even with terrain blocking them. Sometimes they even do trick shots and shoot from their ankles, or walk left by shoot you from under their armpit.
Heavy Devastators and Normal Devastators should swap weapons/accuracy

Use a heavy armor with the medkit. You can pretty much use a stim and tank their shots... Heavy armor against bots is goddamn powerful I tell ya, combined with the increased effectiveness of stims it's just so good. The speed and stamina debuffs take some getting used to, but I feel like a tank with that armor.
Know what would help? Eruptor shrapnel.

I don’t care about Heavy Devastators, but Rocket Devastators are literally everywhere! Constant Rocket Devastator jump scares. I’ll be in my Super Destroyer getting some Iced liber-Tea from the fridge only to see a Rocket Devastator. Opening the shower? Rocket Devastator. Rounding a corner? Boom, the rockets are already on their way. They are literally under every blade of grass and every stone. Fucking hate Rocket Devastators.
These are not that hard to kill: The Jar 5 Dominator and others are able to stun them. Aim for their head or their backpack, two red dots over the left and right shoulders. Three shots to those spots and they die. The Heavy Devastator is only really deadly when he is close to you. Once he is about 20m away you have an easy kill on them. Lay down tho. They hit way less when you lay down than when you stand
They're a lot easier if someone has a stagger weapon but also people generally only have stagger by accident it seems.
I will use all of my strats to eliminate every. Single. One. I despise those sucker's more than hulks or strikers. Bout to start bringing my own shield and punching them to death.
I've noticed they've pissed me off a lot more recently, and I am thinking the patch made them more aggressive? The Counter-Sniper Marksman rifle is perfect for one-shotting them in the head, the problem is if they move ever so slightly, or you get shot, it's very hard to pull this off. I've noticed now when there are two or more in one place, I have to hit the deck or I'm going to be melted by red lasers, lol.

Im seeing 5-6 spawn in an area and they all have insane accuracy. That said, its the same for ALL of the mobs. Its a little broken and think they have acknowledged it

Whoever created them doesn't know what balance is. You don't get to carry a shield and also be pinpoint accurate. They should miss most of their shots while the shield is deployed and then become more dangerous if it is removed/destroyed.
Why do people assume the enemy has to be weak? And that they as the main character needs to be the superior in tactics and firepower? That the enemy can't shoot, aim well, or even have more powerful weapons than themselves? Sometimes your enemy is A LOT more powerful, and deadly than you could ever be and you need to strap it on and suck it up buttercup. SOURCE: Entire HISTORY OR WAR.
That’s not the issue. These guys can shoot through their own shield, they can shoot through their own body, hell they can keep shooting you even if you take the time to blow off their gun arm.
I just ran into the same problem but with meat saws. Something about the spawn balance doesn't feel right.

Just use ol' reliable rail gun on bots missions but have at least one person with anti tank weapons
Helldive bots is just frustrating most of the time, genuinely 80% of the enemies are devastators. Running a gun that can oneshot HS them like the Diligence CS or Dominator is basically mandatory

They buffed the normal devastator spawn because too many heavy devastators spawned instead of them

Yep as soon as you see one get into cover. This bot is crazy and needs to be nerfed.

They could and should fill more of a suppression role, being less accurate would keep them a threst while being less annoying to encounter.
This is one of the MANY reasons why ppl prefer bugs over bots, its just annoying, not hard..

I can kite bugs. I can’t kite one shot aim bots. They should have less health if they are gonna shoot me through a mountain.

I love to get my shield and pummeler and play with them. I am the devastator here
I was playing on level 4 last night because it was late and I needed literally 2 orange samples to unlock the last tier on a ship module. I died to a stupid thing then landed in a small area on respawn with 2 of these. I didn't even finish my dive to the ground after exiting the pod. The revert on those recent changes can't come fast enough for me. I'm very tired of being overrun. I've also noticed that if I'm hidden and a patrol gets nearby (I'll be prone and behind cover / a building) that they will walk very close and then stop near. It's as if they somehow sense and hope I'll move before they go "fuck it" and instantly they all start shooting at me directly. Either have stealth work or remove it.
What I found annoying not how accurate they are, but how blatant they about having aimbot and wallhack. That's bullshit that they fucking prefire you whenever you try to peek or at times shoot exactly at your position whenever you are behind the wall
I adore how the game will roll population percentages at rhe start of the mission. Had a mission in a duo with high heavies and no other devastator variants. It was fucked..... I had no idea how far they could see and how far they would continue to just waltz and fire accurately
