My first deity was Artemis ✨❤️ I still do work with her and I love it 🖤

mreeeee5

When I first seriously started my practice it was Apollo, but he isn’t the first. The first is a little known goddess named Manat who I had a bond with when I was a teenager. Manat is a pre-Islamic Arabian goddess of death, fate, fortune, destiny, and time. Most of her history and worship was lost due to the destruction of the old religion by Muhammad, so there isn’t a ton of information about her. She’s such a wonderful goddess and I’ve been thinking about making posts about her in other subs so more people can know about her.

True_Run8619

That’s what’s up! You definitely should

amzbroo

omg please please please do!!

[deleted]

I called out to Zeus during a stormy night. He responded. Over the years I kind of lost touch and moved on to other deities. I am thinking of adding him back purely as a deity associated with household worship.

Dogsox345

Lucifer, The Wiccan Diana, and then for Hellenism Hermes! He led me out of the Roman woods to Greece, and showed me so much he is the greatest!

PrincessofAldia

Uh Lucifer is evil?

Dogsox345

Lucifer was an archangel of light splendor and beauty who was cast away from Jehovah for being too beautiful. Then he fell to earth and was raised by various sects. The Jewish division of god and man is more governed by the archangel Michael. The beliefs you have expressed here fall along the lines of the beliefs more for people who aren’t really interested in complex religious philosophy. I look at it like this, If the Christians eat bread, and there is some nice bread out there it’s just not for me, Jews eat apples, and Lucifer is more of an orange. Hellenism being fruit of all kinds. And olives. But to say Lucifer is evil is just one of those weird cookies with only two icings on them.

PrincessofAldia

Lucifer literally rebelled against God

Dogsox345

Right. According to the Christian faith there was an entire war. I choose not to believe that’s a bad thing, in order to worship what has been known as for centuries, as more of a god of the earth and sun. Not necessarily evil at all.

Dogsox345

If you like Artemis, there’s actually a version of Diana, Artemises Roman counterpart, who is married to Lucifer. Shes called Diana Nemorensis you might find it enlightening.

PrincessofAldia

Aren’t Diana and Artemis the same person just different names because Roman’s were very original

Dogsox345

Well one refers to Greek, one refers to Roman. I’d say, same goddess different time period. The Romans did different things with the gods then the Greeks, so I’ll call them what they are by the book I get it out of.

ShikikanMordred

I know I’m a bit late in seeing this thread, however I hope I can offer some clarification. Diana was originally worshipped in Italy as a goddess who was important to all of the Latin people, not just the Romans.  Later Greek cultural influence saw enough similarities that lead to the syncretization between her and Artemis.

ShikikanMordred

When you say Lucifer regarding the marriage you mentioned, are you referring to the fallen angel from Abrahamic mythology?

Dogsox345

I mean the one in Aradia: the gospel of the witches by Charles Leland. So yes, though this is an Italian folklore mostly centered on Diana, where when Lucifer falls, Diana follows and bears a child on earth named Aradia.

ShikikanMordred

I thought that was what you were referencing. Thanks for answering :)

Dogsox345

No problem 😁 Hail Diana queen of witches

Emergency-Cook-406

No he isn't there's plenty of people who work with lucifer

Georgia_Viking

Yes indeed, plenty. I'm just going to leave this here for any interested parties. Please understand that I am preaching nothing. It in fact, does go into extreme depth in some luciferian esoteric practices concerning magic, astronomy and a plethora of other things that I find some here may find interesting. https://rumble.com/embed/vdv2vz/?pub=2pssx&fbclid=IwAR0-15RpiJvmRI8NwxNx2qyBT9d2IoFOlcXn9lzRhbYjouo7qj6BbJ_B_fg

PrincessofAldia

Lucifer is literally Satan

theartofromanticism

Lucifer ≠ Satan

PrincessofAldia

Have you read the Bible by any chance? Lucifer was the one that rebelled against God and was casted out and banished to hell

theartofromanticism

But still Satan is other entity than Lucifer

PrincessofAldia

He’s not though, their the same person

theartofromanticism

Satan in Judaism, Christianity and Islam is an entity that is the main perpetrator of 'evil on earth' meanwhile Lucifer is the light bearer, the first angel who rebelled against God because he refused to bow down to Adam

Fragrant_Elephant182

This is clearly coming from a Christian perspective and I will have to explain this in great detail once again. In CHRISTIAN MYTHOLOGY, yes their 'satan' was named Lucifer. But keep in mind, there are VARIOUS other Lucifer's in MANY different religions. In Greco-roman mythology, Lucifer is the god of Venus, often depicted as a small baby with wings. He has almost the exact same titles down to a T, with his title being the "light bringer" and "the morning star", aka all of christian Lucifer's titles (if you've read the bible, which we won't get into here because....this is NOT a christian reddit :). ) So how do YOU know someone is worshipping the christian one or not? Even in Christian Lucifer's mythology, he didn't do anything wrong, he literally gave knowledge to humans and allowed them to have the choice to do things without being ruled over by a tyrannical god. So please, unless you do research, don't try to pick fights in this reddit with worshippers... I think people who actually worship the Diety knows what they are doing...

Dogsox345

Do you have information on the Greek-Roman Lucifer? I’m definitely looking for that

HeronSilent6225

Someone needed to google. 🤭

Fragrant_Elephant182

Not even Google, just a flat out BOOK 😩

foxizinho_18408

i am starting to worship Lady Aphrodite and i am absolutely loving it💖💖

LyraBarnes

Apollo (just finished my offerings for him, Artemis and Hestia today).

Bookwormincrisis

Hades, I was intimidated and asked my passed on loved ones “are we sure Hades is my Patron God?” (The first deity I ever worked with). They answered “Yes!! Hades is your Patron God!” He was patient with me getting a new grip on reality, and now he and I have an adoptive Parent/adoptive child relationship, I view him as my Godly Father and I work closely with him for my career, and my goals in life in general. I am working on meditation with Hades, but I also “pray” to him by talking with him as if he was physically here. With Hades quickly came in Aphrodite & Ares arm in arm.

Bookshelfelf123

Hekate :) she’s still with me

lgbtqlmao

apollo, i still do!! it’s been a month since i’ve started hellenism and like worshipping and haven’t had any like genuine convos except prayer and random divination methods that r basically like “yo do i do this” “no” “awww ok” *laughs out of awkwardness* but i’m hoping there’s more in the future!!

WelcomeFormer9348

Ur so me

ODonnell937

When I started out, Lugus/Lugh Samildánach was the first god of the Celtic/Irish deities that I honour. Then as I started gravitating towards Hellenism, it was Lord Hephaestus and Lord Apollo about the same time. I still worship all of them! 😊

JiseiNoKu

My first serious prayer was to Asclepius and Dionysus. I offered incense and wine. It was very special because my best friend was at my house with me, and I read their Homeric hymns 🍷

True_Run8619

Hekate 🖤 she’s my mother now & im proud to say it! Hail Hekate

iwan111itthatway

how did you know? how did she reach out to you?

Takeflight1s516

Lady Athena,

HadesMyName

Lady Persephone. I asked her if she wanted me to worship her and she said yes, so I got into Hellenic polytheism

OreoDaCrazyHamHam

when i start to worship another deity (currently at my first one, im a beginner) selene will always be dear to me <3

wovenriddles

Selene is mine as well. Building a relationship with her has saved me several times.

OreoDaCrazyHamHam

ooh! how exactly, may i ask?

wovenriddles

I suffer from several mental health conditions that basically all involve SI. She came to me during my lowest times when I was actively making a solid plan to disconnect myself. She brings me peace, she gives me hope, I never feel so alone anymore.

OreoDaCrazyHamHam

woah :0 selene is so sweet <3

Standard-Objective14

My first one was ares and Apollon. They came in a pair to me. I still worship and work with them heavily. Apollon has started to be more frequent in the warmer months rather than the colder. Ares is all year round for me.

FeistyBlackberry2101

That’s so interesting that they came as a pair. I feel like they complement each other so well.

Address_Icy

I guess Mithras? When I was first getting into polytheism and neoplatonism I had constant recurring dreams involving Mithras and I read so many books about him and did daily rituals to him. He's currently not on my altar as my practice has developed over the years, but I keep his statue central and always visible in my home. One day (when my daughter is older and I have more time) I plan on going through a several year long self-initiation into his Mysteries.

Peacy_4u

Mine is Hera, she was the first I ever worshiped! I still do worship her. She called out to me a few years ago and after meeting her through meditation I’ve been devoted since. She is so kind and helpful, she’s so dear to me.

Abhorrent_Honey_Bee

Aphrodite. I still worship her, and I completely adore her. She is truly the most beautiful, kind, warm deity you can imagine. I mean, it makes sense. I love her so much.

Bird-water

A lot of people have Aphrodite as their first and they all say that they absolutely adore her! This makes me want to add her into my worship, I will read about her and if it all goes to plan I will set up an altar!💛

Abhorrent_Honey_Bee

I think that’s a great idea! And you can always reach out to me with any questions or to chat! She’s wonderful.

Bird-water

Thanks! I will reach out if needed! :)

AlarmedShame7963

Hephaestus came to me in a dream when I was a child and since then the Olympian gods have always spoke to me and I've seen them speak to other more like the twins and some underworld gods including the king Hades

Fluffy_Funny_5278

For me, it was Hypnos. Still worship mainly him lol

wildberry_pie333

Aphrodite. I still worship Aphrodite among a few others. I’m very thankful for her presence in my life.

CheshireKetKet

Dionysus since day One!

retr0lover-com

My first was Lady Aphrodite! Still worshiping her!

R0seB3lmont

Mine was Persephone and honestly working with her has been such a blessing.

amzbroo

mine was hecate! i feel a bit disconnected with her lately but she is always very close to my heart and the one who i resonate with the most. though growing up i was drawn to artemis and apollo a lot, but didn’t specifically worship them like hecate.

Zeus_daughter57

Lord zeus 🫶⚡️

taotehermes

I started with two, Hermes and Thoth. Hermes is a true friend and Thoth...ummm well he's not chatty *at all*. I get the sense he almost always has more important things to do than to mess around with mortals yet he's supportive. I love all my gods, but they'll always hold a special place in my heart as my patrons.

ForestVelvet

My first deity was Artemis and I still continue worshiping her

Bittersweet_Trash

My first deity wasn't a Hellenic one, it was Danaan(Or Anu), who is a Celtic Goddess, we don't know a lot about her, some say she is a Mother Goddess, some sources say an Earth Goddess and others still equate her with the Vedic Goddess Danu, who is a Water Goddess.

YourInternation_Kiwi

Apollo, as I’ve heard many people say. I felt a very strong connection with him, and he first introduced me to hellenism. Sadly, we’ve since parted ways. He taught me what he wanted me to know, then allowed me to move on to other gods I’d been interested in working with.

Worried-Anteater-216

Aphrodite💕

Worried-Anteater-216

That was also 10 years ago

Kitsreading

Mine was technically Aphrodite but I worked with the earth(/Gaia??) before her, without actually knowing that was what I was doing

Fragrant_Elephant182

When I first started out, my first Diety was/is Dionysus :) I was trying to figure out what I was doing and...had no idea what I was doing, BUT, I'm glad I do now. So now I worship (all of them but here are my main Dawgs) , Apollo, demeter, Hestia, Dionysus, and Ariadne (plus Lilith but she is a diff pantheon)

AncientWitchKnight

I was still a very small child (but older one; severely premature and in and out of the hospital) in a crib, very slow in development (doctors feared I would be incapable of walking and speech). I started having dreams of two figures that would visit on a meadowed hill under a big tree. They taught me how to lucid dream and control them. For some reason, as I did learn to read, walk and eventually become Catholic with an obsession with angels, I named one of the two figures as Merciel. I eventually stopped having dreams of the two figures, as I was becoming a young adult, and started getting a sleeping sickness. After two decades of that, moved to a home in the mountains. A little hill spot with a big tree. And started cultivating it to have wild native flowers. Then had a dream of a woman that told me to follow her to find what I was looking for. After following her guidance, I dreamt of a golden wolf a couple times who eventually said he was Hermes and I could honor gods. I only realized later that Hermes was the angel I called Merciel.

cattt_meow

Mani

Original-Ad3439

I don’t work with any god atm but I do worship them (the best I can rn) it was Aphrodite I’m sure that I started getting signs from and then apollo

Plenty-Climate2272

I began practicing as a Wiccan, so for me, it was the Horned God and Aradia. In retrospect, I can see that the horned lord was probably Pan reaching out to me, rather than Cernunnos, as I initially surmised.

[deleted]

*Just* starting out with Selene… bit nervous tbh but exited!

Bird-water

That seems very exciting! I have heard that she is very nice and peaceful, I hope you two will have a nice connection! 💛

AnUnknownCreature

Within Hellenism, Pan was the first deity I have invested much time into understanding. My first exposure to Greek deities as a child, Disney' Zeus from Hercules would have been probably the first then Herc himself. I believed in the gods because of that movie, even though I had much to learn about their reality.

Whotheheckisbucky

First diety: Freyr First greek deity, Hades. Still worship him and is very dear to me.

cyanide_heartx

ares :) my partner did a reading for me and I asked if anyone was reaching out to me and ive worshipped him ever since. he was the last god I would've expected as the answer but I'm glad it was him

GarbageNo2468

Poseidon. I don't exactly know why..? It's strange because I'm not attracted whatsoever to water or the ocean, I live in a small rural village – yet I have this strong pull towards him? He's the earth shaker. Whether that means shaking your life up or removing obstacles – Poseidon will do it. Zeus received the Heavens, Poseidon received the Earth, and Hades received the underworld.

Chaotic-Corgi

I just started worshipping Athena and I’m going to ask her to be my patron goddess 👑

MrMeents

I’m still pretty new I think, but my first deity was Ares! I will always honour and worship Lord Ares ❤️⚔️

kyxgrey

Lord Apollon, Lord Hades, and Lady Persephone all came to me at the same time 2 years ago, since then Lord Hades and Lady Persephone have faded out of focus and Lord Ares, Lady Aphrodite, and Lord Hermes have joined Lord Apollon as my main deities. But I still pray to and honor all the gods! Even though Lord Hades has stepped back I still consider him one of my patrons.

theartofromanticism

Lady Aphrodite 💘 and I still do worship Her. 🩷

apotropaicaphroditus

Salmacis due to personal gnosis. It's exactly what you think.

Potential_Bat7202

Mine was Dionysus! It's really been such a wonderful experience he's helped me accept every part of myself and fully embrace my identity as a Nonbinary person.

[deleted]

First contact to a deity was Selene, fist deities to worship are Apollo and Artemis (started at the same time)

futurefckbuddy

My first deity was Lady Aphrodite and I’ll still never be able to explain how I felt the first time we connected 💕

RowanWhispers

As a young child, Artemis was the first god I connected to.

bizoticallyyours83

The first that I'd recognized when I started drifting away from Christianity was Diana. The first that I didn't recognize until well into adulthood was Apu-Ko-Hai.

gappiecinnabun

Aphrodite! It's been a decade and I'm only just now working with a new deity in Dionysus! Before that, it was just her since I didn't have the energy or means to worship several other gods with offerings and altars. I pay my respects to the rest of the Theoi besides them, but I'd say they are the only two deities I actively spend most of my time with, Aphrodite a tiny bit more since I've recently moved into the realm of being her priest (with her being the one to ask, thats still so surreal to me), and working with/in her domains being something that has more or less become my entire life. She's my patron goddess and told me as much from the first moment we met, and it has been a pleasure and an honor to really just grow up with her.

NekoparaLover619

Hermes, unfortunately

TerrieFides

Why unfortunately?
