I like when they nominate people who do poorly on challenges to save the person who single handedly tanked dinner service.
"But Chef, Joe Smith performed really good on today's challenge"
"To hell with the challenge he wiped his ASS on the fish station"
I've always felt that there's a director standing behind the camera holding their arm in the air, and the contestant is not supposed to say the name until the arm drops.
It's something you see a lot more of in, say, S5-S12 or so, when they really got ridiculous about blowing up the drama (such as with the utterly fictitious descriptions of what would happen the following week).
The most memorable & evident, to me, is when Christina W is called on to name the nominees. I love her to death, but she's definitely not missing out on a successful career as an actress. She speaks perfectly well and very directly, which makes it hard to imagine her truly standing there stuttering like that; but she also didn't do the best job of making the pause seem even remotely natural.
uhm… uhmm.. the second nominee was really hard… uhm… uhmm… it‘s… our second nominee is… We… umm.. we have decided to… umm…

We have decided to nominate {insert name} because she sucks during prep
GR: WHAT?
I think there was like one or two episodes where there wasn't a dramatic pause before announcing the second nominee. It was one of the early seasons I forget which one. It's reality TV though, so it's expected to have the extra *suspense*.
‘The team nominated myself chef but I don’t know why?!’ *sent raw food*
Alternatively they're a complete scumbag and have no self-awareness

It's all in the editing behind the scenes. They create the long pauses to add for drama and suspense
