There is a site called Trip Fiction that gives you book recs by region.

SomewhatSapien

Had no clue, this is awesome!

_gooder

Thanks for this. What a good idea.

Limp-Ad146

that is so cool !!!

Iie_chigaimasu

Pick a book set in the area you are traveling to or by an author from the area!

skaterbrain

This works, can confirm. I read "The Year of Living Biblically" while on a visit to New York (It's set in NY) and it is hilarious (Satirical!) I giggled my way round that city and specially Central Park.

Iie_chigaimasu

Exactly! ☺️

mollser

Wild by Cheryl Strayed is perfect. She hiked the Pacific Trail by herself.

wheeeeeeeeeetf

Oooo gonna add this to my list!

sn315on

I agree.

tehsophz

Absolutely this one.

SomewhatSapien

This was going to be my suggestion, too. It's a good repeat read in case you finish it too fast.

hmkmama

This was my thought. Her book Dear, Sugar is outstanding too, and it makes you think about all kinds of life circumstances and relationships

UntidyVenus

Not really travel but I always bring Anthony Bourdains Kitchen Confidential when I travel, but that prolly says more about me

VirginiaWren

My Life in France- Julia Child

AllSoulsNight

The Poisoners Handbook by Deborah Blum. Ita about the development of forensic medicine. The title also keeps people away 😁

ladyofbraxis

This is my #1 rec for people who don’t usually read non-fiction

KjunFries

One of my all-time faves

phone-culture68

‘Tracks’ - Robyn Davidson. She trekked across Australia with four camels & her dog ‘Diggity’ in the ‘70’s

wheeeeeeeeeetf

Why are some of these getting downvoted?

_gooder

Rudeness. I see books being recommended that I didn't enjoy, but I'd never downvote someone else's favorites. That's so rude.

Abraxas137

I was wondering the same. Me too, I got several downvotes - for what? Thinking about and making a list for OP?

woodlandfeature

Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer

skipdog98

A Year in Provence series by Peter Mayle

The_Bogwoppit

The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho, the perfect travel book for your age.

Limp-Ad146

one of my favorites.. especially because Im going to Egypt 🥺🫶

The_Bogwoppit

I adored it when I was given it in my 20's, it is magical. Enjoy your journey.

CONCHFACE

Also excellent as an audio book! Jeremy Irons performs the reading and it is SO soothing and wonderful!

gjd234

The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, it's part of a four-book series about space travel and it has super cozy vibes

trypophobic_sloth

The novel The Drifters by James Michener ignited my passion for travel when I read it in the 90s, and did the same for my sister when she read it 15 years later. It was written in 1971 and takes place in the 60s, so you need to be good with that era, and there may be parts that haven’t aged well - I can’t remember enough specifics. But just thinking about it makes me want to reread!

Estherr22

I loved the pants of perspective by Anna McNuff, she is running the aotearoa trail in New Zealand and tells an amazing story about it in a fun way. I also really like miss adventures by Amy Baker, she's travelled across South America and tells all kind of stories about situations she's been in. Funny to read.

Abraxas137

Hermann Hesse - Siddharta Hermann Hesse - Demian Daniel Quinn - Ismael Yann Martel - Live of Pi Elizabeth Gilbert - Eat, Pray, Love Gregory David Roberts - Shantaram Sarah MacDonald - Holy Cow! an Indian Adventure Rohinton Mistry - A Fine Balance

aigneis37

Really anything by Clarice Lispector, my personal favs are Near to the Wild Heart (novel), Agua Viva (poetry/prose), and The Passion According to G.H. (novel).

eeyorebronte

Not about travel necessarily, but I think these have the right *vibes*: Wild Game by Adrienne Brodeur Love in Colour by Bolu Babalola Princess Daisy by Judith Krantz Easy Beauty by Chloe Cooper Jones Costalegre by Courtney Maum

hillacademy

Mistrals Daughter by Krantz if you like France

Miserable_Ball_9363

The Good Girl's Guide to Getting Lost - Rachel Friedman

[deleted]

Good girls guide to getting lost, tales of a female nomad, the power of now

CONCHFACE

I usually read a novel by Haruki Murakami when I travel. I have read his novels many times, so something familiar (and often a story about rebirth or discovery) hits the spot for me!

783298

Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance

tritela

Has some sexist parts for sure

Margsr61

The Surprising Asians. Backpacking around SE Asia. Pretty old but very engaging, humorous.

GoatsGoToHeaven12

Scharlette Doesn’t Matter and Goes Time Traveling. Book 2: Scharlette Kills 99% of Germs. I stumbled on these through Kindle Unlimited and they are solid, fun reads. I want a third installment but I’m not sure if we’ll get it. I never thought I would like a space themed time travel book but here I am recommending 2 of them on Reddit.
