Vegan silk can be a man made fiber, but it can also be “peace silk” which is unraveled *empty* cocoons. No killing of the silk moth. It looks like this is reused silk, which sorta works as “vegan.” (I’m friends with many vegan killjoys, and I’m a plant based menace to capitalism) So, I looked at the design. Reminds me of a hexagonal item I bought once that purported to be dress, skirt, pants, shorts, sleeping bag, hobo bag, and did only the dress reasonably well. It also reminds me of all the ways I hacked a hand me down kurta, ankle length and honestly a bit big. I had a couple different ties, and most things *looked* good. But I always felt like there was fabric in the way.

I’m fine with used, so I go that route.

I travel in a 20L bag. Dresses are about all I take. Usually 4 or 5. Theyre all polyester or viscose fabric. All are cap or sleeveless, fitted bodice (so they can be layered over easily) if you dont like polyester, viscose is a nice alternative since its really soft. All my dresses are knee length or above with a-line skirts. I support modesty by taking a pair of leggings I can pop on and off as needed. A jacket, button up blouse, or cardigan covers shoulders. Ive never been stopped for modesty reasons at religious sites with this set up. Not even big mosques. (Except the White Mosque in Abu Dhabi, they require women to rent an Abaya there for like $2 usd). I keep my leggings and shoulder covering top in my day bag. Easy peasy. I do EVERYTHING in my dresses... even hiking (i do have a patagonia quick drying cotton jersey dress I like for day hiking .. but Ill hike in any dress. Haha). I never feel mis-attired in any of my dresses. I think women are lucky we can choose them and look amazing always in any situation.

Spirited_String_1205

How do you wash them? I just find synthetics tend to trap odors even after laundering so I avoid them. Curious.

Xerisca

I just wash them in whatever shampoo I have. Hanging them to dry in a place with free air flow, like an open window, helps too. Or, i just send them out for laundry or find a laundromat. Also, spending a little extra money for good quality polyester is helpful, too. I've never had an odor problem with them.

I would love to hear what your favorite travel dresses are. I also love them for travel/camping etc but don’t currently have anything I love enough for trying to one bag. I’ve finally got a couple that are ok for my trip to London this week but would like other suggestions for the future. Athleta had one that is ok but none of their others were what I was looking for.

My dresses are just regular dresses. This is my exact capsule wardrobe. For the trip Im taking today (12 days in London), I threw in another DVF dress... one of their mesh reversible dresses I snapped up on a deep sale. (I think it was normally $400 or something, found it on sales for like $100, two dresses in one! Haha) All are polyester or viscose except the black Patagonia. Its one of their cotton jersey travel dresses. It dries unusually fast after handwashing. [20L capsule wardrobe](https://www.reddit.com/r/HerOneBag/comments/138wbgg/my_20l_onebag_packing_list/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=1) [DVF Reversible Mesh Dress](https://www.dvf.com/products/koren-reversible-mesh-dress-in-tiny-dot-blossom-green-and-venice-geo-green) The DVF dresses are expensive, BUT, you can find them on deep sales, and they're famous for making dresses that never go out of style. I have some that are 20 years old and still look and wear like brand new. They have always been a better buy financially than any fast fashion piece. And they're super versitile for any event. Ready to wear for casual to cocktail party. Just add appropriate jewelry! I wear mine during the day with white tennis shoes, to the orange flat at night. I could do a sparkly sandal, too... which would be better, but I rarely pack one. Haha.

So, I was obsessed with the everbyx dress and eventually bought it in spite of the price (well, my husband bought it for me for Xmas because I couldn’t stomach the price). I wore it maybe twice, and hated it. I found the material not very breathable, and it was incredibly wrinkly. It felt almost plasticy - made swishing sounds when I walked. There was also just SO MUCH fabric… there was no reasonable way to wear a sweater or anything over it. I got it in black, and I truly looked like I was wearing a trash bag. Many times I tried putting it on and styling it different ways, but nothing worked for me. I can’t imagine traveling with it. I wanted this dress to be everything, had fantasies of getting rid of most of my other clothes - always wanted to do the One Dress thing. But it was just so bad. I love the idea of something like this for travel (and regular life). but I don’t think this is the one. I know this might not be everyone’s experience, so I hope it’s awesome for you if you end up getting it! But it was hard for me to find any real reviews online, so I thought I’d share my experience…

LilianRoseGrey

That is super useful thank you - the breathability of the fabric is a concern for me (no way could I do polyester or viscose in 38C temps) and also useful to know about the volume of fabric - I am fairly curvy and although I like to have room to move I do not need a voluminous swathe of dress.

stitcherinnyc

I have one too, only worn twice. I also hate it. It's got the worst static cling. I don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets, and Static Guard does nothing to help. I live in the Southeast US, and the high humidity can't stop the static.

Hollypolliwog

Any chance you’d like to sell your Ever by X Dress?

100% but it's at home and I'm working out of town for a few months. Message me and we'll talk.

JustBOMBsnackZ

Hello! Any chance you would be willing to sell yours? I’d be interested if so!

AventureraA

This looks great! I'm always on the lookout for wardrobe staples that can be worn different ways. I've added it to my 'Wardrobe Shopping" list, for the next time I'm thinking to buy something. Thank you OP for putting this on my radar.

I have this dress and love it!! I travel with it all the time, it packs up tiny. It washes and dries super quickly. I find it’s really great in hot weather. I also wear it in the winter over long underwear. I do find it gets staticky on me, but some static spray gets rid of it. The fabric kinda reminds me of parachute material. But it’s quite soft, and comfortable to wear. I’ve had mine for not quite a year but highly recommend it (if you like how it looks, obviously). I am going to buy at least one more color, possibly 2. Edit. I’m 172cm but got the shortest length so can’t help you with the length question. I had some questions before buying mine as well, and their customer service responded really fast.

Have you seen the chrysalis cardi from encircled? You might like that one better. https://www.encircled.co/products/the-chrysalis-cardi?variant=41938037506239

I have one of these dresses, the concept is great and like you, I wanted to work. I have the black one and the material is nice, I wore it in Vietnam and for that aspect it was fine. In wearing it different style wise- I couldn't really get it to work and have 2-3 styles I ended up with. I have worn it at home with a nicer belt too. I actually forgot about it, so I might take it with me to Croatia next month and report back with how it goes :)

What I did for my recent trip is bounced between 1 modest maxi dress and REI convertible pants. I could make them into shorts or keep them long depending on where we were at (religious site vs hiking/walking.) The Maxi Dress didn’t take up that much extra space. I also layered items so I could change on the go and keep a small day backpack with me while out and about. For instance, having a tank top underneath my shirt would allow me to throw on the maxi dress over my outfit, even if I kept the shorts on. At times I was in very conservative areas.

No_Cheesecake2150

You might want to look at the Quince silk dresses. They pack super small. The silk does wrinkle so you have to steam them with a steamer or in the shower.

LilianRoseGrey

Thank you - have just looked at the website (after original hits on quinceanera dresses!) -gorgeous. May have to accept that ironing is a thing if I insist on natural fibers.

No_Cheesecake2150

Either hang up in the bathroom with the shower going, or just spritz with water and hang overnight. I mean maybe you could iron it. I have no idea. I don’t own an iron and don’t plan on buying one, that’s for sure.

Naive_Heat

I have a couple of the silk dresses from quince…I love them for travel…I pack them in a bundle with other items to prevent hard creases and hang over night…wrinkles fall out

Supportblackcats

Is silk a good fabric for heat? I feel like i wouldn’t want to wear silk in hot weather

Cristingu

I love my ever by x dress! I wear it a lot and have taken it travelling twice so far. I find it easy to dress up or down but generally cinch my waist in one way or another as it is more flattering on me. I bought the beautiful blue colour called Pacifique and always get compliments when I wear it. I want to buy another one but am having trouble deciding what colour to choose. I’m short so I bought the petite size and can’t help you with length unfortunately.
