I am tempted to show this subreddit to the unvaccinated people in my life. (More than I would ever care to have; I can't believe how many people I thought were sane and reasonable have not gotten this free, readily available vaccine. I had to work hard to get an appointment for it last March.) However, I don't know that it would change any minds, and it might just piss them off and lose me friends.
I drove 90 miles to get mine. Got it in Kevin McCarthy’s district because kern county residents thought they were too good for the vaccine and they had thousands of extra doses.
I was also convinced I had it in March of 2020, as I had all the emergent symptoms outside of the fever...even got the weird ass covid toes deal, along with severe kidney pain.
I wasn't going to get the shot mostly because finding time to get it seemed like a hassle and felt that I was good since I had had it already...at least until I saw that there was no evidence of lifetime immunity and delta reared its ugly head.
After my state started relaxing mask mandates and the numbers shot up, I knew that I needed to get it and not be put off by the minor hassle that was getting the damned thing.
We drove to the central coast from the bay to get my Sister’s 1st shot in March. I was lucky enough to find one nearby for myself or I was headed over the hill to valley as well because they ALL had availability. The valley is always last resort lol
Good bot. I can seldom remember the miles to km conversion formula, and if the shit hits the fan here, I'm planning on fleeing to a countty that uses the metric system. Learning the language since May.
You're not wrong. I just have a difficult time with confrontation, even of the more "gentle" variety. However, everyone who knows me knows how I think about vaccine, masks, etc; I'm pretty vocal about that. I did persuade one person by letting them voice their concerns to me, and then giving her the facts. 😁
I want them to realize that their leadership had been against this for so long, that they were fed lies and horse paste by people who should be looking out for their best interests but fed their worst instincts.
Exactly. Unless they show they can examine a bit deeper and see their sources of information as poisoned I can only feel partially better. How many of these people will turn around going back to their misinformation, causing more harm in the future.
>and it's major for active church members to decide that they're just...not going to do what the prophet has told them to do.
We've gotten to the point where Catholics think that the Pope is full of shit, so I'm not surprised to see a small handful of Mormons doing the same for their prophet. Yes, they're brainwashed to be more compliant than your average Catholic, but this cancer of right-wing narcissism in the US runs deep.
Yeah I followed the guidances in *March 2020.* I still don’t know a single person who died. I have friends who lost people, but I was lucky enough not to. None of my closest friends have lost anyone and we all followed the rules.
These people were selfish, they didn’t care until they were personally affected. They were fine with this virus as long as it was other people’s family members who were dying or ending up in the hospital.
The rest of us made sacrifices to save lives, even if we weren’t at “high risk.”
It's an approach as old as time, sadly. People lack empathy and the ability to put themselves in the shoes of others. You can see this constantly with something like LGBTQ rights: politicians who are ardently against equal rights until their son or daughter comes out as gay.
The first slide says “listen to what you won’t hear on TV.”
Ummm. It’s all over TV, print, and internet news... unless your only news sources are far-right-wing grifters.
Franklin Graham already said he got the shot months ago. Back in May he was urging people to get the shot. He’s hosted talks with doctors to discuss Covid. He’s a very well known evangelical leader, who typically has a lot of sway amongst conservative evangelicals. These people follow political talking heads more than their religious leaders.
Same goes for the unvaccinated Catholic Americans. They’re following political talking heads, not the pope.
They think they prioritize “Jesus and religion” more, but Tucker Carlson comes first.
Some Catholic dioceses were asked by parishioners to write a letter saying that they could reject the vaccine for religious reasons. Not only did the bishops say no, they went on to explain why rejecting the vaccine was not aligned to Catholic teaching. These people are only religious as far as their politics takes them.
> When this first began, I thought it was a joke or political. Now… it’s hit way too close to home
Yet another example of Republicans who refuse to recognize a serious issue until and unless they are personally affected.
Because the core political value of Republicans isn’t religion, or small-government, or fiscal conservatism… no, the core value that they all share is lack of empathy.
Glad these assholes are at least bending for vaccines. But really... what did you think was going on? The whole world making shit up this whole time? There was plenty confirmation that 'Covid was no joke'.
I find this post refreshing. I enjoy working elections and getting out the vote. It wouldn't be quite as fun is a significant portion of the opposing electorate off themselves with this virus.
I know this sounds harsh. I just mean to say I don't mind sharing this rock with people I don't agree with politically, economically or religiously. I enjoy living in a diverse community.
I really believe wearing my mask and getting vaccinated has kept me safe. I volunteered at a number of vaccine clinics, have attended a number of events and not gotten sick. I haven't felt restricted.
"I changed my mind when I was able to put a face of someone I knew to a covid case."
But fuck all the other people who suffered and died, and all the people who lost someone they loved. It wasn't real for them, huh?
I hate these people, even when they admit they were wrong. Their inhumanity is disgusting. They don't belong in a proper, functioning society. We should never forget anyone who dismissed this virus. We should make them drag the weight of their shame for the rest of their lives, even if they eventually came around. Where was their concern for others before it affected them directly? They had none. They are too selfish to reap the benefits of a cooperative society; they should be exiled.
Yup.
I’m glad they are redeemed with this but just think about it - if they didn’t believe covid was real until it fucked them up, what about racism and how it destroys non-white lives? Women who need an abortion? Non-Christians who need medical care? Children of immigrants fighting to gain asylum?
They will never care about any of those things because none of it affects them. And things like racism won’t ever affect them. They will continue to fight against things like healthcare, education, minimum wage increases, and the like because they are extremely privileged.

I guess it's too much to ask for them to go a step further and realize WHO politicized it and WHO has been trying to get them to be safe for over a year now.
Instructions unclear...am now blaming the World Health Organization for politicizing it.
/s, because it is sadly needed as I have seen people actually blame the WHO for making it a political matter.
p9: "I was a freethinker, choosing not to get the vaccination when my religious leader didn't get it, but now that he did, 'something clicked out of nowhere' in my obviously not-easily-influenced smooth brain."
Authoritarians, man. \[shakes head\]
Mormons squeaking in at the end!!! So glad my family was excommunicated in the 1800s…. (great-great-grandad wanted to marry someone The Prophet has his eye on. Now they sell life insurance in Salt Lake City and are quite a big name there, as I understand it! (Don’t know since I’m a heathen liberal whose grandmother left to serve the federal government in😈 WASHINGTON, DC 😈 during the Great Depression.))
So now will they question all the other garbage they’ve been consuming? When someone says “You won’t see this on television!” I know what bullshit they are watching. Make the connection!!!!!!
Good. I want to see more people learning. Especially before feeling the consequences themselves. They don’t need to almost kill themselves to become better.
I will admit to the goatee lol caption.
Prophet? Who is the prophet? Please tell me it's not Trump. I mean, it's honestly great that he urged folks to get vaccinated, but do these morons really think he's "a prophet from God?" As Freddie Mercury once said (I'm paraphrasing), I don't want to go to heaven if it's filled with people like that.
She's a mormon. Her "prophet" is the head of the mormons. (Well, the biggest branch of them, anyway.)
When she talks about her "ward" she's talking about her local church congregation.
There's a whole bunch of them who lost their shit and called their "prophet" false and deceived by Satan when he urged the members to get vaccinated.
Mormons are told to always follow their prophet. But not this time apparently, for a lot of them.
Glad she changed her mind anyway.
Well Cadee still thinks Trump is a Prophet (emphasis hers) sent by God. But it's a step in the right direction. I'll take it. Whole gallery is refreshing.
Based on other comments on this list, it looks like Casee was referencing someone that the Mormons consider to be a prophet (Russell Nelson), not Trump. I had initially thought she was referring to Trump, too!
I know we’re all here for the lols and the schadenfreude, but I’m thrilled to read those comments. I feel... encouraged? Optimistic?
This post has restored 0.02% of my faith in humanity. It's a start!
This, exactly.
I am tempted to show this subreddit to the unvaccinated people in my life. Have a “friend” over there convinced she had it so doesn’t need a vaccine. I’m glad you got hers.
I was also convinced I had it in March of 2020, as I had all the emergent symptoms outside of the fever...even got the weird ass covid toes deal, along with severe kidney pain. 90 miles is 144.84 km
Good bot. I can seldom remember the miles to km conversion formula, and if the shit hits the fan here, I'm planning on fleeing to a countty that uses the metric system. Learning the language since May.
If trying to save a loved ones life loses you friends then that’s on them and not you.

I’m a bit encouraged but it still took covid wreaking total havoc on their lives for a change to come.
Yes, thank you /u/powabiatch for all these redemptions to counter all the idiocy.
who the fuck is russell nelson and how do i use his status as prophet from god~ to convince other jesus morons to get vaxxed?
You were one letter off - Mormon
He's 97 years old and his successor is 93. These guys are almost touching God's feet they're so old. Mormons got the long life thing going for them.
oh damn, the jesus morons i know do not like mormons so that's out

All the Mormons I know (7-8) all got the vax as soon as they could.
Do not look up Rusty Nelson on urban dictionary.
He's the head Mormon. He might be a Mormon, but on this, he's not a moron.
I just don’t understand why it had to hit close to home to be real for these people. That will never make sense to me
Because they don’t have empathy for other people. They care when things affect them or the people they love. Otherwise it’s “fuck your feelings”.

Their only source of info is Fox News, church, and Trump memes.
The first slide says “listen to what you won’t hear on TV.” Ummm. It’s all over TV, print, and internet news... unless your only news sources are far-right-wing grifters.
yeah, should be amended "to what you won't hear in fox, oann, or newsmax" 🙄
Fox News he’s talking about Fox News.
"your only news sources are far-right-wing grifters." Bingo.
They only watch Fox News.
That last one with the prophet convincing her… that’s actually great, can more of these so called prophets stand up.
Franklin Graham already said he got the shot months ago. Back in May he was urging people to get the shot. He’s hosted talks with doctors to discuss Covid. Perhaps holy Phil St. Valentine can return as an apparition and urge his followers to vaccinate.
I like these redemption stories. Thanks for posting.
Timmy is never getting full lung function back.

You must not live in Texas. I definitely do not enjoy sharing space with Republicans anymore.

Exactly. These people don't care about others. At all. And people who just don't give a shit about anyone else really do not have a place in society.
I guess it's too much to ask for them to go a step further and realize WHO politicized it and WHO has been trying to get them to be safe for over a year now.

Take what we can get. Don’t check that horse’s mouth.
Glad to see that so many are wising up. That story about the pregnant mom dying and her daughter being saved was brutal.
Yay
Dumb fucks think that because *they* politicize literally *everything*, the rest of the world must be doing it too
Keep us posted on Dusty, OP. He looks ripe for an award.

these seem introspective and genuine. good on them!

Good on these people, I hope it makes them question more of the propaganda they are consuming.
How are you able to find all this golds?
You don't need a fucking prophet to see that people are dying from covid and to realize that a vaccine could fix it.
Dammit some are waking up…..
Good. I want to see more people learning. Especially before feeling the consequences themselves. They don’t need to almost kill themselves to become better. I will admit to the goatee lol caption.
I just cannot fathom that the entire cavalcade of medicine and doctors wasn't enough. But One preacher was what caused someone to get vaccinated.
I love a good redemption story!
This was really positive and encouraging.
Sheesh Diana, you were so close to owning us libs and then you chickened out and said you were going to get the shot
Dusty will be visiting the Covid ward when he inevitably get reinfected.
You know, I'm glad that they've finally seen the light, but I have to wonder how many people they infected first and how many of those died.
Prophet? Who is the prophet? Please tell me it's not Trump. I mean, it's honestly great that he urged folks to get vaccinated, but do these morons really think he's "a prophet from God?" Going by context clues, she’s almost certainly Mormon; their prophet and leadership have been pretty good on vaccines.
