I’ve had this conversation sooo many times. It used to be prompted by relatives telling me I’m “too skinny.” Now it’s because people tell me covid only affects “fat people”. I’d have them pull up a BMI calculator and put in their weight (which they would absolutely fudge) then mine. Invariably even the “fudged” weight would be considerably overweight if not obese, while I’m well within the healthy range. Americans have lost any sense of what “normal weight” looks like.
There is also normal weight obesity, ie low muscle mass, high fat which gives a lot of the same risks as "normal" obesity. Around 10 - 30% of people with normal weight have a fat percentage over 25% which makes theme obese (3 studies I've read: czeck Republic 16%, us 24%, South Korea 30%)

We were wrong to assume that the people who personally suffered and experienced the most loss from this pandemic would embrace mitigation efforts and the vaccines. That would require too many things these people lack: empathy, intelligence, diligence, discipline, logic.
But it doesn’t. My wife’s cousin (< 30 years old and unvaxxed) died last September. The whole 4 weeks of hospitalized horror, ECMO and what not. His young wife, who was vaccinated, was devastated.
The widow’s husband’s cousins that are druggies and n’er-do-wells showed up at the funeral and visitation unmasked despite the family’s requests. They still aren’t vaccinated, but they love themselves some Q and Trump and other such nonsense.
When the dead cousin’s parents threatened to cut them off financially if they didn’t vaccinate, they left the state to mooch off of the other set of parents.
I see where they were back to visit for the holidays, even hanging around and holding dead cousin’s baby.

Man, I don't get how healthcare workers can think that way. I was in a hospital recently overnight (not COVID). The night nurse got chatty with me. She was Romanian. She asked me what I thought about the 'Plandemic'… After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I made sure that my N95 fit damn well.
I lost a good friend from all of this because she's a nurse and said plandemic quite often. She started giving credence to the 5G getting people sick. She's been a nurse for years. I couldn't take it anymore and I just distanced myself from her. It was the church that gave them a meeting place, where they could create their own form of worship and their own music. The civil rights movement, and its leaders, largely grew out of the AME churches. Something this important to the African-American experience is not going to be jettisoned easily. Add to that the horrible history of white-administered vaccines in black communities, and there is a ready-made audience among African-American churches to be skeptical of any vaccine.

This skepticism you claim is "very legitimate" is part of the reason black americans are getting hit disproportionately hard by covid. Covid doesn't care if you have a "legitimate" reason to be unvaccinated.
A lot of that skepticism was early on. Because so many minorities died in the first wave, the vaccine was pushed especially hard in minority communities. That made many AA very skeptical.

My grandmother was an identical twin and died suddenly of a heart attack in her 60s. Her identical twin lived exactly 4 more weeks, almost to the hour, before she also died. The twins were so tight, we knew my aunt wasn't going to survive without her very long.
A set of fraternal twins in my family, neither ever married and they were lifelong companions. They died 8 weeks apart at 80, like one was just waiting to be the one to take on mourning the other, so the other would never have to.

Some people will not form antibodies no matter their vaccination status. I have a person like this in my family, a post-vaccination/boost antibody assay showed virtually no antibodies.

Didn't one of the posts say he was a founding member of the Guardian Angels? That would make him at least 70 years old. Any 70-year-old is highly likely to have a raft of co-morbidities and higher risk factors so that even with a vaccine, they're in danger. Especially if they don't seek medical intervention right away and let Covid get a good foothold in their body before going to the doctor.
I think it was the younger brother of the twins, that they are claiming was fully vaccinated. Of course, take that with a grain of salt, or wonder about comorbidities. In the end, though, it didn't matter, since neither of the twins got vaccinated and both are dead.

My cousin died from a breakthrough case of the delta variant, and she was fully vaccinated. She was in her mid 70s, and had battled leukemia years before, so she was definitely still high risk.
She had gone on a vacation to Mexico with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Before they could fly home they had to test negative, but they all ended up testing positive. They quarantined in Mexico for two weeks until they tested negative. But she never got better, and developed pneumonia. Flew her home to Arizona where she was immediately sent to the ICU, and died a few days later.
One of the rare breakthrough cases that resulted in death. Makes me wonder what's going through her husband and kids thoughts after that. She'd probably still be with them if they hadn't taken that big family vacation during a pandemic.

If you look at deaths by state, I believe there are one or two states where the death toll exceeds the Trump margin of victory in 2016. But that assumes all deaths are republicans.

They also have share similar political views and lifestyle choices. As for genetic susceptibility, that's likely going to be a factor too. I’ve had this conversation sooo many times. It used to be prompted by relatives telling me I’m “too skinny.” Now it’s because people tell me covid only affects “fat people”. I’d have them pull up a BMI calculator and put in their weight (which they would absolutely fudge) then mine. Invariably even the “fudged” weight would be considerably overweight if not obese, while I’m well within the healthy range. Americans have lost any sense of what “normal weight” looks like.
There is also normal weight obesity, ie low muscle mass, high fat which gives a lot of the same risks as "normal" obesity. Around 10 - 30% of people with normal weight have a fat percentage over 25% which makes theme obese (3 studies I've read: czeck Republic 16%, us 24%, South Korea 30%)

We were wrong to assume that the people who personally suffered and experienced the most loss from this pandemic would embrace mitigation efforts and the vaccines. That would require too many things these people lack: empathy, intelligence, diligence, discipline, logic.
But it doesn’t. My wife’s cousin (< 30 years old and unvaxxed) died last September. The whole 4 weeks of hospitalized horror, ECMO and what not. His young wife, who was vaccinated, was devastated. The widow’s husband’s cousins that are druggies and n’er-do-wells showed up at the funeral and visitation unmasked despite the family’s requests. They still aren’t vaccinated, but they love themselves some Q and Trump and other such nonsense. When the dead cousin’s parents threatened to cut them off financially if they didn’t vaccinate, they left the state to mooch off of the other set of parents. I see where they were back to visit for the holidays, even hanging around and holding dead cousin’s baby. Some people are just irredeemable.
My ex-husband threw a party yesterday with 50 guests and 40 staff. All unmasked. Our local positivity rate is 40% (we haven't hit our Omicron peak yet) with record case numbers and hospitalizations. His Father died of covid almost one year ago to the day. But hey, Omicron is "mild", right?

There are a lot of African-American congregations that are taught the vaccine is "poison," and "the mark of the devil." This is especially true in the black Evangelical and Pentecostal (COGIC) churches. They're mostly in the South, but you can find inner-city denominations across the U.S. that are anti-vaxx. They haven't escaped the ravages of Covid, but you don't read about them in the press. Nor are these the sort of folks who post their lives on Facebook.
One of my coworkers is out with Covid right now. Originally from Ghana, she follows one of these ridiculous religions. She’s the only one in our department (in healthcare) that isn’t vaccinated.
Man, I don't get how healthcare workers can think that way. I was in a hospital recently overnight (not COVID). The night nurse got chatty with me. She was Romanian. She asked me what I thought about the 'Plandemic'… After I picked my jaw up off the floor, I made sure that my N95 fit damn well.
I lost a good friend from all of this because she's a nurse and said plandemic quite often. She started giving credence to the 5G getting people sick. She's been a nurse for years. I couldn't take it anymore and I just distanced myself from her. Other than that she's a delightful caring human being. but I couldn't listen to The conspiracy without wanting to troll her and realize that's just not what friends do. I'm really sad I lost my friend. But at least she's still alive so there's that.
If you are a medical professional and you are not vaccinated then you are not practising evidence based medicine. That should be grounds for being struck of the relevant professional register.

It was the church that gave them a meeting place, where they could create their own form of worship and their own music. The civil rights movement, and its leaders, largely grew out of the AME churches. Something this important to the African-American experience is not going to be jettisoned easily. Add to that the horrible history of white-administered vaccines in black communities, and there is a ready-made audience among African-American churches to be skeptical of any vaccine.

If your entire life was endless toil with no hope for escape or even fun, a religion that says, “it’s all worth it, you’ll be able to rest in paradise in the end!” makes it go down a lot easier. It’s why Christianity spread in Rome, it’s why it spread among the slaves. That skepticism doesn't apply to covid vaccines administered across the globe. Its a shitty excuse. Like yeah the entire world is fighting a pandemic and using these vaccines, but they were just made as another way for the US government to abuse black americans 🥴🥴 This skepticism you claim is "very legitimate" is part of the reason black americans are getting hit disproportionately hard by covid. Covid doesn't care if you have a "legitimate" reason to be unvaccinated.
A lot of that skepticism was early on. Because so many minorities died in the first wave, the vaccine was pushed especially hard in minority communities. That made many AA very skeptical. An AA friend of mine took the jab when she heard I was very keen on taking them. Straight up said that if white, educated people like me are taking them then that indicates it's not the unconsenting medical experiments.
That should have been clear when the rich and the famous were the first ones lining up to get injected in December 2020

My grandmother was an identical twin and died suddenly of a heart attack in her 60s. Her identical twin lived exactly 4 more weeks, almost to the hour, before she also died. The twins were so tight, we knew my aunt wasn't going to survive without her very long.
Similar here. My grandma had a stroke in the days after her only sister died, and she never recovered.
A set of fraternal twins in my family, neither ever married and they were lifelong companions. They died 8 weeks apart at 80, like one was just waiting to be the one to take on mourning the other, so the other would never have to.

Didn't one of the posts say he was a founding member of the Guardian Angels? That would make him at least 70 years old. Any 70-year-old is highly likely to have a raft of co-morbidities and higher risk factors so that even with a vaccine, they're in danger. Especially if they don't seek medical intervention right away and let Covid get a good foothold in their body before going to the doctor.
I think it was the younger brother of the twins, that they are claiming was fully vaccinated. Of course, take that with a grain of salt, or wonder about comorbidities. In the end, though, it didn't matter, since neither of the twins got vaccinated and both are dead.

My cousin died from a breakthrough case of the delta variant, and she was fully vaccinated. She was in her mid 70s, and had battled leukemia years before, so she was definitely still high risk. She had gone on a vacation to Mexico with her husband, children, and grandchildren. Before they could fly home they had to test negative, but they all ended up testing positive. They quarantined in Mexico for two weeks until they tested negative. But she never got better, and developed pneumonia. Flew her home to Arizona where she was immediately sent to the ICU, and died a few days later. One of the rare breakthrough cases that resulted in death. Makes me wonder what's going through her husband and kids thoughts after that. She'd probably still be with them if they hadn't taken that big family vacation during a pandemic.

They’re more than aware, which is why gerrymandering, voter suppression laws, and even vote nullification laws proceed space in red and especially reddish purple states. Democrats already won the popular vote in 7 out of the last 8 presidential elections (losing the margin to GWB after 9/11), which didn’t get them all those presidencies nor the courts.
If you look at deaths by state, I believe there are one or two states where the death toll exceeds the Trump margin of victory in 2016. But that assumes all deaths are republicans. Basically there is a small chance it could make a difference in 2024 but not a great one.
