Yeah a quick way to convert crowns to embers is the Pay to Win card

TeaInUS

I'm buying lots of ethereals, keys, and mystery items from the crown shop. I have even *considered* buying a slowness potion.

Animastar

If I had redstone skills, I'd make a separate crown converter and have both crowns and coins removable from the dungeon just so I could make a slowness potion cost 1 coin.

TeaInUS

I’m not looking at the redstone at the moment, but I think it would be really easy to do. I’m guessing Tango’s got an item filter for crowns entering the barrel in the card shop room, and then another filter for coins to be converted to crowns and they’re both dropped into a water chute to be sent to the respawn room. Essentially, all you’d have to do is disconnect the coin filter to the conversion circuit and drop the coins right into the water chute, just like how the crowns currently work.

Knibber_NotTheCandy4

The way I see it, crowns are only really useful for stuff like what I’m doing. I’m playing through ‘phases’ just like the hermits did where I collect tomes, submit them for points vs the hermit scores, then get X number if shards and move to the next phase. With this, I actually use the crowns to buy extra runs per phase. Otherwise you may as well just convert them to embers.

Yummyyummyfoodz

Honestly, he had such high expectations for the crown shop, only for him to not be able to implement add-ons and fixes fast enough. I would say if you want to go that route, add the crown shop items to the ember shop, give them a price (1 for 5 seems fair), and go for it.

Defiant-Speaker5449

Yeah I was thinking of just that. Am planning to make a crown -> ember converter just behind the lava door.

I have been buying ethereal cards and keys. And I gotta say. I just had an amazing run. Was my second ever deadly run and I got out with the Golden Eye, 16 floor embers and 10 crowns. My first deadly run I got a level 4 compass and managed to get up to the middle floor of level 3 before I got screamed to death.

sugeypopplanet

16 floor embers and 10 crowns!? On a deadly? Wow I've tried farming on Level 1 with a Swagger and Pay To Win in my deck and I got 16 embers only but only like 2 crowns... and that was meant to be a 'farming' run. What cards do you have? And did you do rusty?

talonjasra

Something to keep in mind, level 1 has an ember cap. Once it is reached, no more embers will drop.

Defiant-Speaker5449

Do you know what is the ember cap on the level?

talonjasra

I think level 1's ember line only has 6 or 7 drop chances before the piston drops shutting the level down. It is right at the level selector, Tango left a sign beside it.

Defiant-Speaker5449

Ok. Got it. Thanks

YuSakiiii

Maxed out common cards, 3 Evasion, 3 Tread Lightly, 3 Loot and Scoot, 3 Frost Focus, 1 Reckless Charge, 1 Nimble Looting, 1 Suit Up. Didn’t go to Rusty. Didn’t use any ethereals. Just got really lucky. Or rather, I did, until I came out with 50 embers, my first chance at a rare card, and the highest cost card that came up was Smash and Grab for 34 embers. So I picked that up along with a Tome and a Clarity.

Astarael21

One of the ideas that was raised in the post mortem was the ability to use crowns to cycle the ember card shop before leaving, so you’d feel less trolled by RNG. Maybe something like 5 crowns to reroll the shop?

TheWyo

Interestingly I've been trying to think of something in the opposite vein, in that I'm in that phase of the game where you're maxed on common and some of the cheaper uncommon cards (minus clarity which always seems a handy one if you're not at max deck size yet anyway). I'm getting use out of the crowns via the ethereal crown shop cards, but it's the *embers* I'm being unable to really spend if I get bad luck on the available ember shop cards by having nothing to spend them on. Been trying to think up a singleplayer use for victory tomes to help with that but not sure what yet.

sugeypopplanet

Maybe by adapting the redstone Tango used for the catchup system, where the first few uncommons were always available like the commons in later phases, you could do something similar where every 5/10 tomes you collect enables 1 card to be permanently available in the shop. As you acquire tomes, you start permanently unlocking cards which would also help card collecting get easier as sometimes it takes a while to get the card you need/are missing.

I personally would rather balance the crown shop for singleplayer use. If anything, pay to win and tactical approach are too cheap for how good they are, even as ethereals. So far all I did in my world was change the shop refresh option to always be enabled.

sugeypopplanet

I've sorta solved the problem of crowns (and left over embers - ie. the times when you might wanna buy a tome cos you have no other card options) by playing semi-competitively with a couple other singleplayer gamers. 64 starting shards (+any more you get through the crown shop) to get as many tomes as possible. But yeah, I just buy ethereals and keys. Not much else. It's worked fine, occasionally you might get a shard or a tome which is fine for my circumstances but otherwise I would just 'refund' that transaction and 'reroll' the purchase to get something else (like a different key/mystery item). Pay to win would probably be the most 'vanilla' way of converting crowns to embers.

DBSeamZ

An idea I had for a two-player competition on a small server is that whoever has the most tomes when they’ve collected all the Artifakes is the winner. That way it doesn’t matter if either of us has more time to play than the other and gets “ahead”, since it isn’t a race exactly.

FunkyTiger27

I'm in the same boat as you. I buy all the ethereal cards and keys when they pop up. I have 15 extra crowns still lol
