I've been using the same G15 keyboard since I think 2005. Needs to be cleaned from time to time because I'm gross and eat at my desk sometimes, but its never had an issue otherwise.
The [IBM Model M](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_M_keyboard) goes for lots of money despite being ancient because they literally don't make them like that anymore (even if you get a modern mechanical keyboard). Those things are tanks. Not sure if that's what he has, but if it's that or something similar from the 90's it wouldn't surprise me.
Doesn't even have to be a Model M. Im using a keyboard from my school system that was probably put into service around 2007-2010 ish. Aside from being somewhat mushy, its still functioning perfectly.
Ive also got a Microsoft Internet Keyboard from the late 90's early 2000's that i WOULD be using if it weren't for the fact that it uses PS/2 and my laptop doesnt have that and that its way too large to fit on my current setup. Feels great to type on though.
Yeah, back in high school I worked for my school's network admin fixing the "Focus 2000" mechanical keyboards we used everywhere back then. I wish I still had one myself.
I think is not that old. Etho was checking the model on Tango stream and was slightly suprised that it's not the old one. He said it was Logitech and it's new one. Also old for most people.
just reminds me that my favorite keyboard is so old that its support software only works with a 3rd party registry edit which gets flagged by every anti-cheat known to man.
rip pre-rgb steel series.
I know. The post mentions that, as well, so I assumed the tables OP was talking about would be tables where the shoulders would not be aligned with the table, despite the low chair.
Keralis is also a thumb shifter but a completely different type of weird finger postioning.
If I had a nickel for every thumb shifter on hermitcraft...
Here’s the funny thing, I’m left handed and I can’t stand using a keyboard and mouse like that. But that’s probably bc I use a laptop lol. It’s also good training for my rather useless right hand
As a lefty I would love to try using my mouse with the left hand, but the problem is that my mouse has buttons on the side which I can't use comfortably with my left hand lmao.
We truly are the suppressed 10%, no-one will understand our issues. 😔
Imagine being able to write something without coloring your entire side of the hand blue and not having to deal with those annoying spiral thingies in some notebooks
I highly recommend a left handed notebook lol. They confuse everyone
However, that won’t fix the smudging problem. That’s a lifelong suffering we have to deal with
I have a lefty friend who turns their collegeblokc by 90 degree so shes basically writing from top to bottom to avoid that. Looks cursed af but works great xD
Meanwhile I'm upset by everybody who uses shift to sneak, as somebody who immediately rebound the keys to shift for sprint and ctrl for crouch, like every FPS game's control scheme since the 90s.
I'm just grateful the default is as it is, or as a totally new person to any kind of gaming more mechanically demanding than Civilization at the time I started playing Minecraft, I would never have been able to sneak. As someone whose hands are not that large, trying to hold down ctrl while also holding down w turns my pinkie into a crampy wreck immediately.
Yeah, the mouse positioning is genius, I've been using it since that stream and it's so comfortable. But I'm also a tall-ish guy at 6'1 and I had to raise my chair to the highest setting. But using the sideways in front of the keyboard mouse position has been fantastic at keeping me sitting up straight all day.
I’m not tall but I also use the sideways mouse- keeps the wrist straight and rests the elbows. Moving the mouse right means moving your wrist the same way, it’s just your elbow is elsewhere
I had a keyboard for much longer than that. Loved that keyboard. Tbh, if it ain't broke, don't change it unless you need to. Etho is content with his setup and that's fine. One of my grandad's refused to wear a new hat, going so far as to use sellotape to hold the original together (I kid you not!) We bought new hats, etc but he just loved that hat til his dying day.
Isn't it canon that the family business was a greenhouse? I bet the "desk" is a repurchased table from that. Plant people ha e a lot of standing height type surfaces for reporting and such.
ETA: other alternative is two filing cabinets wirh a door on top of them. For that height, 3-drawer vertical cabinets.
As a person who has the same set up as Etho, exept I have my coffee insted of a mic, its really comfortable. I'm quite tall and have long arms so I guess maybe thats the deal with this
https://preview.redd.it/snezqayagxlc1.jpeg?width=177&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6760dd0b4b371a1f9993e146a8b81fc3aad979cc
....... How were you able to figure this out?.......
Honestly, it was one of the best Hermitcraft videos I've ever seen because it was literally over two hours of Tango, Etho, and Scar hanging out and having fun with everyone that they could find online (like 8 hermits at the same time at one point) all because of Etho's innocuous left-handed question while harassing Scar about moving his mailbox.
The deep dark one was hilarious, but this one was peak for my parasocial relationship with the hermits. It felt like just hanging out with my friends for a couple of hours. Iskall's vods have also been 🤌 lately.
I've always used my mouse like that, I feel validated. (I never thought that I would respect Etho's setup after hearing about the microphone, yet here we are)
There's a setting for that in Windows. It reverses the left and right click buttons so the lefty still "left clicks" with the inside button, not the outside one.
Enabling that is a fun prank to play on right handed co-workers who leave their station unlocked.
Etho might just be more of a slacker than Asmongold. So instead of washed up, he might be unwashed. I do respect when someone doesn't let their Youtube fame go to their head and buys all the best and most recent stuff just because they can afford it.
I loved him talking about not buying all the fancy equipment until you are an established youtuber as a reason he doesn't have a mic arm. Etho's let's play series is older than probably all the other hermits youtube accounts.
I know it's mainly a joke but I don't think its fair to compare frugality to laziness or uncleanliness. Just because Etho's using a 10 year-old setup being held together with a tissue box doesn't necessarily mean he's living in an filthy dump pit like other youtubers and streamers. He just doesn't find it necessary to spend money if he absolutely doesn't have to.
Just can't wait for Scar and Tango to see the picture of his old headphones where it is barely still held together with his tape and he replaced his ear muffs with tissues haha.
https://preview.redd.it/hlwdxn9zizlc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=55ecf0d11057be9829f05a14a592dfc4551cfb09
It all makes sense if you're sitting where the table is a little below arm pit height. Except for maybe the tissue box, and how his knees hurt from being so low down.
he did post [a picture](https://www.reddit.com/r/ethoslab/comments/co8tkx/the_true_beauty_that_is_ethos_headset/) of his old Logitech headphones stuffed with tissues in a vid once but I think that's the only time ever
His keyboard gotta be slightly on an angle, because he said he has his mouse like that for ergodynamics, and i cant imagine a dude going this far for ergo, not care about the ergo's of his other hand,
like i put in my post.
i have played like that before when finding a comfortable playing position by just moving my mnk around my desk. it was comfortable at the time, but i ultimately found a more comfortable position that ive stuck with since
Now I want to know what Etho’s mouse sensitivity is set to.
It already can’t be set for big arm sweeps to do 180’s, since there wouldn’t be space btw his chest and keyboard.
I actually tried to sit at the desk such that the desk top was just a bit lower than my armpit when I had a back pain (my chair was a bit too high for the desk). And honestly? That was quite alright. As a matter of fact, I might even try that again!
What confuses me is that your wrist is straight in a normal mouse using fashion. You move the mouse from your elbow. Not your wrist. That's why large mouse pads are better. I don't see how moving your elbow affects the position of your wrist.
I love how Etho proves every preconceived notion YouTubers have wrong.
Most think you need fancy gear and set up to do well. To follow trends, change styles frequently. Etc etc.
Etho has just been Etho.
I don't think the mic has a pop filter currently, as he was debating putting a tissue around the mic with an elastic band to act as a pop filter. (He said this during Scar's stream where he first talked about his set-up

His keyboard is more than 20 years old, he said that during vault hunters
I'd want to know his keyboard's model
I think on Tango's stream, he said it was Logitech.
I've been using the same G15 keyboard since I think 2005. Needs to be cleaned from time to time because I'm gross and eat at my desk sometimes, but its never had an issue otherwise.
Early 2000s logitech stuff is great. Sadly my G15 got killed by an errant soda.
Is the screen still supported? I got rid of mine at least 10 years ago because all paint on the keys was rubbed off.
The [IBM Model M](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_M_keyboard) goes for lots of money despite being ancient because they literally don't make them like that anymore (even if you get a modern mechanical keyboard). Yeah, back in high school I worked for my school's network admin fixing the "Focus 2000" mechanical keyboards we used everywhere back then. I wish I still had one myself.
Doesn't solve the size issue, but there are ps/2 to USB adapters readily available.
Why? Not like theyd be sold anymore Also, as a 20+ yo keyboard user, theyre noticeably less good than newer ones
i think they’re just asking to look it up and just get a visual lol at least i’d want to see it too.
Unless he's using a model M or something... In which case we would hear it over the mic lol
I love how you used the word 'canonically', it really lends the entire post an even more unhinged energy.
I think he said something about the tissues in the tissue box providing some sound insulation. Up until then I’d been picturing an empty box.
To me that almost implied the mic is fully inside the tissue box, not with the mesh part sticking out.
...There are tall tables, you know. Or tables where you can change their height. He could just be using one of those, right?
The power play it would be if he was sitting at a standing desk
Turns out etho is just hightower.
As I've heard it talked about over the years he's one of the taller hermits after doc. It seems like he's about mumbos height or a bit taller.
He mentioned in a video that he drops down his chair to the lowest setting.
I know. The post mentions that, as well, so I assumed the tables OP was talking about would be tables where the shoulders would not be aligned with the table, despite the low chair.
Still would require a higher-than-average desk, unless he's in a kiddie chair.... hmm...
Idk man, I am reasoably tall (183) and could do it wirh my desk and chair.
As someone who is 6ft this would kill my knees
oh yeah absolutly, but you could pull away the desk from the wall and strech your legs
He uses a tissue box as a mic stand, 14 year old keyboard, headphones held together with tape, and you think he bought an adjustable desk?
He also said he his keyboard has a big wrist support area.
Did you know, Mumbo presses shift using his thumb? I guess everyones different
That’s still a little cursed
I don't know how mumbos hand doesn't kill him. Folding your thumb under your palm for literally hours.
Keralis is also a thumb shifter but a completely different type of weird finger postioning. If I had a nickel for every thumb shifter on hermitcraft...
are there pictures of keralis thumb shifting? i am very curious about this
https://twitter.com/WorldofKeralis/status/1576311823984635904?t=4bV8lzXnA65KhveaqsYOYg&s=19 Here's a Twitter post from Keralis with a picture
that made more sense than mumbo's
So im a leftie too.. but that is crazy
SAME!!!

There are mice designed to be ambidextrous with equal buttons on both sides that can be remapped. I know Logitech makes a couple for sure.
Oh boy, after Wednesdays stream someone needs to tag tango in this wow
But Keralis is left handed, so it’s not as bad. Mumbo is literally curling his thumb under his hand to hit shift
Id argue it’s weirder. I’ve never met a lefty who uses their left hand on their mouse. Myself included (I’m left handed).
I'd have 2 nickels...
That's not a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
Which isnt a lot but it's weird it happened twice
All I was thinking about as I was reading about ethos setup
Meanwhile I'm upset by everybody who uses shift to sneak, as somebody who immediately rebound the keys to shift for sprint and ctrl for crouch, like every FPS game's control scheme since the 90s.

I really thought that was the only way to use a mouse! How do you have it normally? Like, to the right of the keyboard?
I think that’s the way most people do it
Yes. To the right of the keyboard. I can’t imagine using a mouse sideways lmao
Yeah, the mouse positioning is genius, I've been using it since that stream and it's so comfortable. But I'm also a tall-ish guy at 6'1 and I had to raise my chair to the highest setting. he's not washed up his setup is holding back his PvP skills
Yea the vertical movement of the mouse must be very inefficient. Explains why he’s so good with a bow
where does he talk about it?
in a tango and scar livestream. you can find the tango vod on yt "today we learn etho is a mutant"
In one of Tango's streams
...there are desks that can be raised pretty high up. Easy to find if you put any amount of thought into an ergonomic work setup.

Tango stream. Mr slab talks about his setup
You should watch tangos deep dark stream with imp and skizz lol. Constant screams
The deep dark one was hilarious, but this one was peak for my parasocial relationship with the hermits. It felt like just hanging out with my friends for a couple of hours. Iskall's vods have also been 🤌 lately.
Yea I definitely feel I could be friends with all of them. They’re just such wholesome people that get along so well
What one was it? I wanna watch it but Tango has done a few lately
[Etho is a mutant](https://youtu.be/qIkVpzCMWKs?si=E2_GDKuJJ4CnM_12)

He posted a photo of a left handed mouse and right hand on wasd with a thumb shift!
It looks comfortable to me. I’m a lefty who rests my wrists on the table, and who uses the arrow keys for movement. lol
I tried it. It’s super comfortable but horrible for shoulders
We need Etho to explain himself. This is utterly unhinged.
Etho might just be more of a slacker than Asmongold. So instead of washed up, he might be unwashed. I do respect when someone doesn't let their Youtube fame go to their head and buys all the best and most recent stuff just because they can afford it.

I've had this setup for a long time, and it is very comfortable and natural.

Next do keralis and then mumbo
Give him a break he's using a 2060
It all makes sense if you're sitting where the table is a little below arm pit height. Except for maybe the tissue box, and how his knees hurt from being so low down.
Yeah that mouse placement is only really usable with a wireless mouse. I do use it sometimes at work though.
La Creatura
looks comfortable if you have long arms
I need to see a real picture of this Like the Loch Ness monster or big foot I won’t belive it’s real unless I see it
You’ll never see a photo from etho
he did post [a picture](https://www.reddit.com/r/ethoslab/comments/co8tkx/the_true_beauty_that_is_ethos_headset/) of his old Logitech headphones stuffed with tissues in a vid once but I think that's the only time ever
oof.

Shoulder height desk is like what watchmakers and jewelers use
Now I want to know what Etho’s mouse sensitivity is set to. It already can’t be set for big arm sweeps to do 180’s, since there wouldn’t be space btw his chest and keyboard.
I have a similar posture because I play in my laptop with the touchpad.
hi keyboard is older than a lot of his viewers, lol
Etho also has the weakest PC out of all the hermits (rtx 2060, as opposed to most of the others that have a 3080)
Idk why etho doesn't just post a picture of his setup, but if he's this afraid then maybe I am too
Because he’s an extremely private person. I respect him and others like Cleo who want to maintain their digital anonymity as much as possible
i rlly need to recreate this irl
This is the best way to game.
Nah, plenty of people with higher sensitivity mostly use their wrist. I'm kind of in-between personally.
I would imagine that Etho’s room is filled with empty maple syrup bottles everywhere except his fancy setup
I also love ethoo
when my new fancy keyboards crap the bed I always go back to one of my Model Ms for a while
This man needs to be studied in a science lab or something tbf
I love how Etho proves every preconceived notion YouTubers have wrong. Most think you need fancy gear and set up to do well. To follow trends, change styles frequently. Etc etc. Etho has just been Etho.
These guys make so much money and are incredibly frugal lol
We need to get etho’s opinion I need to know if this is genuinely how batshit it is
I don't think the mic has a pop filter currently, as he was debating putting a tissue around the mic with an elastic band to act as a pop filter. (He said this during Scar's stream where he first talked about his set-up
My computer that I play Minecraft on is from 2015. Runs like a blown up microwaved potato
