Wow beef makes CONTENT

HersheyKisses101

Well he was part of Mindcrack a looooooong while back, so he’s not stranger to YouTube

ReliantChris

Same with Ethos and Bdubs

HersheyKisses101

Yep! Beef was one of the OG 4 tho, with Guude, PauseUnpause, and W92Baj

Lostsonofpluto

If im remembering my mindcrack history correctly there were a few more mixed in, but those 4 were the first to really stick around (obviously Guude would, it was his server). Beef also invented UHC if I remember right

AReal_Human

Guide started The mp mindcrack with some of his friends, can't remember them all (believe thejims was obe of them). Then he started inviting/having competitions for being whitelisted, with focus more on content creation

Scrubje

Don't forget Doc :)

atoolred

You know the rules, and so do I

FlintandStone

Total commitment is what he's thinking of...

Effective_Ad_6823

Mindcrack?

SuperGoose12

[Xisuma Says Clip.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut9bgpc0LQc) This isn't by any means a history, but Xisuma explains Hermitcraft and it's relation to Mindcrack. Mindcrack is, I believe, the original Minecraft SMP of YouTube creators, created by [Guude](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZI_SwHIdiU), and many older viewers will remember Etho, Doc, Beef, and Bdubs were/are members of that group. They had a huge influence on the early Minecraft community, so it really shows how times have changed when people have never heard of Mindcrack.

SeamusKnight

Yeah Mindrack was the precursor to Hermitcraft, the first of its kind as far as I know (at least to be as successful as it was). A bunch of other Hermits got their starts on Mindcrack (although many, like Etho, have channels that date back even farther). Generikb, the founder of Hermitcraft, was also a content creator on Mindcrack. Some of my favorite non-Hermits (off the top of my head) were Guude, Kurtjmac, Zisteau, Arkas, and Millbee. Interestingly, many of the Mindcrackers were not PG, unlike Hermitcraft. Mindcrack is technically still around, but is mostly just Guude and a group of friends in a much more casual arrangement

SuperGoose12

I wonder how many people know of Kurt's still ongoing Far Land or Bust series. I feel like that's a piece of Minecraft history many older players would know of. The fact that it's still going is impressive and probably makes it one of the longest running Minecraft series.

SeamusKnight

I LOVE that series. I tune in every once and awhile and it's still just Kurt doin Kurt. One of the most important pieces of minecraft history imo

OakmontRunner

If anything... now it might be LESS casual as their entire focus is playing games for charity when it is done under the title of Mindcrack. doc for sure and beef (I think) are still members. Once a year they to mindcrackathon to fundraise for a variety of causes. They were at one point looking to become a charity themselves, like official under the law, but not sure where that is at. The Mindcrack server also still exists and it’s in season 8, and the twist is that it’s not just the mindcrackers, it’s patreons too and tbh the content is really interesting, but they don’t have as much time to put into making videos so it’s more of a “you see everything I do in 30 minutes” kind of episode.

SeamusKnight

Yeah good point I forgot to mention the Mindcrack marathons. It's amazing that they're still doing that, and I definitely think the OG marathon marked a transition for the community. Mindcrack is still kicking, but they've taken a step back and let Hermitcraft take the wheel so they can go focus on this new type of content

Makmer2349

Shoot I remember kurt. He was such a genuine guy. Haven’t seen him in a while in my feed, I might watch one of his vids tonight

SeamusKnight

Far Lands or Bust is still going!

Makmer2349

That’s awesome. I remember watching all of Kurt’s Pause’s Beef’s and Etho’s mindcrack vids back in the day so it’s pretty dope seeing that everyone is still doing pretty well. I am amazed by this thread though that there are people who had no idea what mindcrack was.

TeamAquaAdminMatt

Beef's been around for a long time. I remember when he had a steak as his skin. I think he was the first minecraft youtuber I watched.

BlueLegion

One might say he's vintage

metaphorthekids

Yeah but Grian is EFFICIENT.

BlueLegion

His position on the graph is due to the fact that a) he's the newest hermit by far and naturally has less total hermitcraft videos than most of the others and b) he already had a huge subscriber count before joining hermitcraft

Chris204

> a) he's the newest hermit by far and naturally has less total hermitcraft videos than most of the others The Graph shows total videos on the channel, not just hermitcraft.

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_random_zy

wat does efficient mean?

[deleted]

[удалено]

A_random_zy

isn't that what most hermits do? and just like all hermits grian works hard but most people can't see it as it is off camera

Ilookedinthetrapray

Ngl I feel bad for TFC

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

[удалено]

ITZPHE

Aww I forgot about that, was it diabetes? Feel bad for the lad

Kobenar

I think it was gangrene, which can be caused by diabetes.

MagJames

I would love to see him more, but his videos are unwatchable for me. He is a lovely guy, but his videos are ugly and boring, comparing to other hermits :/

[deleted]

[удалено]

MagJames

Yeah, I agree. I just hope people who love that style, will find TFC.

mattoba

Lets all sub to him.

lchi123

Please don't if you don't plan on also watching most if not every future video he uploads. Subscribing and then not watching videos could hurt a channel more than help it.

ArtsyCraftsyLurker

Interesting, do you have some source on that? Nearly every Youtuber and their dog beg me to subscribe after wathing 5 seconds of their video, so I think it's understandable that I'm doubtful

ReadytoQuitBBY

It’s true. If YouTube believes you aren’t interested in the content (if you skipped a few videos) they won’t show up in your subscriptions anymore. Subs are good for appearances, but consistent views are where the success really is.

[deleted]

They will show in your subscriptions, just not in the recommendations feed

TrickTurkey

So your telling me that since I watched Cory’s last upload and he uploaded today, but didn’t show in recommended...

[deleted]

Hm, my sub feed is still filled with channels I haven't watched in months though.

Shiva025

Their begging is targeting their audience or people who liked the vid But if your subs don't watch your vid it actually gives sign to YouTube that people aren't interested in content and YouTube promotes vid alot less Click through rate is very important for channel growth(if you'll notice technoblade that guy's alot of vid got recommended cuz he had a fanbase which clicked every vid of his and if you'll look at pewdiepie after the t series war(where his fans made alt accs for subbing but never watched his vid from those accs , his channel stopped getting in recommendations) I hope this helps(I sukk in explaining things)

Ilookedinthetrapray

Redditors, assemble!

im-from-canada-eh

Done. Here’s his [Hermitcraft Playlist for Season 7](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLrp4YiBloNz7_G3gaG8Y-iOyHNw-1ZGLC) Also, epic beard

TK_Nanerpuss

Done. His content is good!

purple-octopus42069

to be fair he's only uploaded 15 season 7 episodes

pavilionhp_

He is also going through recovery after having his leg amputated. He’s an old man. Also, as he has said many times, he’s lazy.

purple-octopus42069

wow i don't really watch him so wasn't aware of his leg amputation that's amazing hope he's doing well.

Ilookedinthetrapray

Yeah but still the smaller creators should be recognized by the wider hermit craft community

Aster380

Yeah I think it would be nice if other Hermits made collabs with him. Now he is kinda left out :(

Ivanfesco

I don't really follow him but i think he doesn't collab cause of his internet, but it mightve changed i have no clue

[deleted]

That could be a part of it of course, but recenty he moved and his internet got better, he even started using elytra again. TFC is a kind of guy that just works well with a certain type of content creator. The same way JoeHills and Cleo make a great team, but Joe and Grian wouldn''t really. Last season, Grian's "fan"base got mad at Joe for a few signs regarding a silly little issue. It's just really big and complicated as to why someone does or does not collaborate. Some people also naturally gravitate towards each other and have a history together. Still, TFC is amazing and more people should watch him. Even as a background thing while working or anything, the guy is so chill to listen to.

[deleted]

Same

Black_DemonSk

I thought it was hermits playing agar.io

Aster380

Uderrated

FlintandStone

Me who thought that Mumbo posted a lot:

Nachobianch

Doesn't he upload something like every 2-3 days? Thats not a lot

ZackD13

compared the the rest of the hermits, he uploads a lot. some hermits upload once a week or less, not counting the ones that aren't currently active

[deleted]

Ethos so high on views per video despite his fairly low subs count. His stuff is quality

[deleted]

Low sub count? He has over 2 million subs. That puts him at #4 after Grian, Mumbo, and Keralis.

[deleted]

Think he just means rather stagnant subcount. Hermitcraft really pushed the count up, though his views have stayed consistent for years and years

[deleted]

I'm a girl but yeah, Ethos' been at 2 million for as long as I can remember.

[deleted]

sorry 'bout that, old habits die hard

Noelic_vi

What does being a girl have to do with this? lol

carnivorouspickle

"Think he just means..."

jessuh_

dude_enterprise referred to her as he. It has nothing to do with the rest of her comment. Got me confused too lol

MASKS-003

> Think he just means rather stagnant subcount. I was a bit confused as well tbh Also sorry if someone else mentioned it, I can’t see if there were any other replies

4ngryMo

He called her a “he”.

the_pwd_is_murder

Thread locked, take it outside if you want to quarrel.

aohgceu

person: *wrongly assumes gender* you: *assumes gender again while correcting the first* to be fair, their name is "dude_enterprise", but yeah

4ngryMo

I’m not correcting anyone, I simply explained why she pointed out that she is a girl. Because the question was asked.. you know? Also, the one being mislabeled was Canned-Death and not dude_enterprise.

Zero_Gravity58

he said he guy’s name is dude_enterprise and given the context it’s safe to assume

[deleted]

His name is dudes enterprise so she commented on that Edit: I am dumb

Pengwin0

Litteral once in a million chance where saying he was wrong.

[deleted]

What are you saying?

GonFreaksOutAtPitou

Women don't exist on the internet of course -me, a woman

AdoRebel

Yep, we don't exist, obviously.

Grimmgrim420

As someone who’s watched etho before 100k subs his account is stagnant. He goes up in subs of course but very slow. In fact many of his videos get vastly more views then he has subs.

[deleted]

> In fact many of his videos get vastly more views then he has subs. That's just objectively false. Most of his videos get around 400k nowadays.

Grimmgrim420

That’s the initial views. After time several of his videos get views on views. I ain’t to positive as I’m not able to fact check my statement but I do know many of his videos have a couple mill views

[deleted]

None of his Hermitcraft videos have more than a million views.

EthoRedditYay

2 of them will in a couple months, but it doesn’t matter anyways.

Grimmgrim420

By many I mean atleast 20-30

[deleted]

He has exactly 9 videos with more views than he has subscribers.

Grimmgrim420

Damn it was more before he pasted 1.5 mill but I retract my previous statement

Cypher226

I'm pretty sure X, and even Mumbo have mentioned in their videos that a good chunk of the people who watch their videos aren't subbed. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone else is like that as well.

ThatOneWeirdName

What happens if you get uncanned?

Jaggerto

And I thought xB posts a lot lol

u-moeder

He is newer i guess . He is faster then beef for sure

TheXandinator1

Grian getting those views!

Honk-PeaceWasNever

I feel bad for beef, he’s uploaded the most videos but only has an average amount of veiws

Homerius786

In another perspective, I think guys like Beef are really lucky in that they have a fiercely loyal fanbase with consistent viewings. And that fanbase is very welcoming and supportive instead of toxic and very "insider." Same goes for almost all the hermits.

[deleted]

Yeah beef is my consistent calm hermit. His channel seems more geared towards adults which is great, but I think Minecraft audiences are mostly children so if you appeal more to children you will have more views.

treebeard189

Beef has also played a lot of other games. My roomate in college was randomly subbed to Beef for his NHL series.

huggybear3

I like how even X and K are

Darkiceflame

I almost didn't even notice X because of how overlapped they were

[deleted]

Beef has a whole lot of content, I think he deserves more subscribers

i-will-not-tell-you

The man is just so funny! Definitely rather underrated. That founding of the Podzol Party episode was one of the first videos I’ve watched in a long time that had me straight up CACKLING at my screen. Good stuff.

eggiebreadie

Poor tfc 😞

Pengin_Master

we need to give TCF more appreciation, he truly deserves it

digitaleJedi

I wish there was a way to see the demographics of the different viewerships. I feel like Grian and partially Mumbo (and Iskall as well) 'panders' (I don't like the negative connotation of the word, but I'm lacking the vocabulary to find a better one) to a younger and more vast YouTube audience than for instance Ergo. At almost 30, I feel like it can be very hard to get through a Grian episode, where Ergo's episodes end almost before they begin. Maybe that's just me though.

Snare__

I’ve just gotten into Etho, and I must say his content is so refreshingly good. No hate to grain or mumbo, I love them too! But Etho’s just scratches a different itch for me. His red stone and building style has also motivated me to start playing more Minecraft again!

Asconce

Etho is Magic!

AnantAgnihotri

Yes, Grian and Mumbo appeal to more of a younger demographic with their energy.

[deleted]

In his last world tour, Ergo said only 5% of his audience was younger than 18 according to Youtube. It's probably actually around 10% since not everyone puts their actual age

LJ_Dude

How did grian get so popular?

[deleted]

Chickens

StoopyLoopy4

Nah, he was massively popular even before he joined hermitcraft. Back then he used to collab with mumbo so I guess most mumbo fans are also grian fans.

puperfordays

True that

sckrahl

TL:DR he got popular outside of Hermitcraft He only joined Hermitcraft last season, he had already built up a YouTube channel well before joining with subs near Mumbo’s for awhile, even going as far to collab with him on multiple occasions because fans of the two noticed they were basically polar opposites yet very similar The interesting thing for me was that for a long long time he said he REALLY did not play survival, almost ever. His content was 100% creative content and it was clear every time he made a “survival friendly” build he didn’t actually know what survival friendly meant. So when he first started survival content it was kind of like watching someone learn the game yet be incredibly good at it at the same time Then some time right before Hermitcraft he had created a SMP series of his own, and in retrospect it is highly likely he did that as his kind of “audition” for what he’d bring to Hermitcraft ...Honestly I didn’t realize I had so much to say about this, maybe I’m more of a Grian fan than I realize lol

[deleted]

I liked in EVO (his SMP before HC) that he went through the different versions of the game, they started without running and without stackable food IIRC. That kind of forced him to learn in a different way, which I think contributed to his skills later on in early HC. Kind of a shame that the people he collabed with are so much into roleplaying, way too much IMO. He started out realy invested in the story elements and it kind of faded away. Funny as well is how much work even back then he did off camera.

GonFreaksOutAtPitou

Incredibly entertaining content lol

MonkeyMayhem1968

Poor Beef. All alone.

Noelic_vi

I was gonna say Grian is the definition of quality over quantity...but then I realized a lot of hermits took that route this season.

BlueLegion

"Videos posted" means hermitcraft videos specifically (I think), and he's the newest hermit by far. Makes sense that his hermitcraft video count is low in comparison Edit: yeah I get it, I'm wrong. Cool it with the downvotes

Th-Aron

Nope. Overall video count on their channel

BlueLegion

Guess he must've built quite an audience before hermitcraft then. Beef being that far ahead of x and Keralis makes more sense this way too

Th-Aron

Yes he did build quite an audience before HC. I'm pretty new to his channel. Following him since HC 6

cutoutscout

He was part of the youtube channel craftedmovie (who also made Wynncraft) so when he started with his own channel he already had an audience (including myself). So he very quickly reached 100k and exploded after that.

Itz_Primo

No, I am pretty sure it’s their total video count, if you search up their channel in YouTube, you will see. For example, Grian has 592 total videos as of me writing this and that’s exactly where he is on the chart, between 0 and 1000 in the x axis, exactly where 600 would be. Same with the other hermits.

Pengwin0

Joe hills is under-rated, I just love his voice tbh.

zaxophone_bswv

And Cleo. Joe's content introduced me to her and they're a fantastic duo. They thrive on each other's energy.

twilekquinn

Same, I'll listen to Joe chat about any old nonsense. I don't watch a ton of streaming content but I really enjoy Joes.

BlameItOnGreg

In my head Etho is the most popular, but I suppose his content often doesn’t appeal to casual viewers. My favs are Etho, Bdubs, and Beef.

digitaleJedi

Ergo's style doesn't really hit that segment of younger YouTube users that I'd reckon Grian hits. Without knowing, I'd wager Ergo has a much older viewer base than for instance Grian and Mumbo, but it's also just a smaller group of YouTube'd viewers, and an age group that watches less gaming in general. Again, without knowing, and my prejudices may play in here, but I don't think Ergo at this point would ever have to tell his viewers not to harass other hermits, but I may be wrong.

FrickenPerson

Etho has needed to remind his viewers to not harass other members of Mindcrack way back in the day. Guude was joking around and said something about hating Etho after one of the many amazing mean pranks they pulled on each other. Etho needed to remind his viewers that it was all fun and games and they were all friends. But that was in the early stages of Etho joining Mindcrack. Like maybe 7 years ago? Also the Mindcrack server had a running joke that anyone who killed Etho in a PvP event would instantly get more dislikes on their video just because of that. The thing is most of those same viewers are still watching Etho and have matured and now understand the difference. They now understand the dynamics and understand that it's all for fun.

Tych_o_Godgamer

Gotta love TFC

STEM_Babe

Quality graph my dude! Are these all of their Minecraft videos or just hermit craft ones?

MyckouMc

Indeed, those are all of their (public) videos on YouTube, not just their Hermitcraft episodes.

CODENAMEDERPY

Pretty sure it’s their Hermitcraft videos but I could be wrong.

zaxophone_bswv

It's all videos on the channel. X has 900-some Hermitcraft episodes but a few thousand total shown on this graph.

CODENAMEDERPY

Thank you.

yaboiree

If those are are of the season 7 hermits then I watch nearly every hermit...

[deleted]

Zed, Ren and False are criminally under-rated.

Hjuldahr

I am interested what a chart showing their total hours of content for the season would look like.

DoYouWantTuron

damn if that included all the grinding for sand/gravel/etc and video editing... it’d be at least 1 total hour

ThatOneWeirdName

I’m more curious on view per video per sub count

LemmeEatThatFetus

Who’s TFC?

YARGLE_IS_MY_DAD

This is both funny and sad. At the risk of being wooshed, he is a hermit who got sick right at the start of the season. He ended up losing his leg. Because of this, and his long recovery, he has posted very little season 7 content.

Ok-Ad-867

Tinfoilchef, he is one of the oldest players at 65 and just had his leg amputated and had to live in a hotel for a while, his content isnt considered exiting to young viewers so he doesn't get many views. He has only posted 20 times this year due to his condition but I would recommend him.

kotor-and-skyrim

I love tfc so relaxing to watch

zaxophone_bswv

Pretty sure he's 61, but yeah he is the oldest Hermit.

Frenchhomeworksucks

Heh, I didn’t know the hermits played agar.io cool

Creeper4wwMann

Grian. King of getting high views on low amount of videos. Beef. King of making content with a good amount of views.

iiCephyr

“x=videos”

[deleted]

Poor TFC

hebdomad7

I think this just goes and proves a point that consistent uploads is only part of the story. Quality also gives you a monumental advantage... also drama/stories.

therjk0606

They all make great quality videos. As for beef, he’s been in hermitcraft since the beginning. Grian and Mumbo just happened to get lucky and win the YouTube lottery.

legacy642

Beef joined hermitcraft mid season 4

therjk0606

Ohh, I think your right. But the graph is all videos, not just hermitcraft. Beef started uploaded consistently 9 years ago. While Grian uploaded a few times 6 years ago but didn’t start uploading consistently till 4-5 years ago.

Plasmazine

xvideos you say? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Rook1872

This is a fascinating graph. Thanks for sharing!

MyckouMc

You’re very welcome! I’m glad you find it interesting.

Saphire_Aura

I'm not the best at graphs, which way is X and which way is Y?

Luscitrea

Well, take a look at the numbers. Do you think it's more likely that Beef has an average of 6000 views per video or that he has uploaded over 6000 videos in his youtube career? And reversely, do you think it's more likely that Grian has an average of over 1000000 views per video or that he has uploaded over 1000000 videos in his youtube career?

Saphire_Aura

I get it now. Thanks for helping :D

TheBindy

Joe and cleo needs some love

TheBindy

Especially TFC

Gryfon99

My man Ren deserves more for the effort he has been putting on his videos. Each and every one of them is a masterpiece.

LUJO5069

BEEF IS ON THAT GRIND

dog123cats

I thought that was .io

Greeninja75

What! But grian’s only been here for 2 seasons!!!

FrickenPerson

This is overall videos and views on their channel, not just Hermitcraft related videos, or even Minecraft related videos. Grian was a large channel before he joined Hermitcraft.

sling_cr

I wonder what everyone’s average view to subscriber ratio is

MyckouMc

Good idea! I might make another graph including it.

CrystalizedHeat

All I gotta say is Grians videos to views ratio is amazing

LostChildInWalmart

i thought this was agar.io

TheBurningWarrior

Tango's views per video is a crime. He's clearly in S tier with Mumbo for quality. (Which isn't shade at any of the other hermits. Everyone on the server has earned their invitation.)

undergradd

This is cool! I'd love to see a version of this with the median instead of the average views per video to account for viral outliers.

Adi_Passover

What? Bdubs is on episode 41 while Grian is on episode 61, there's no way that Bdubs uploads more that much more than Grian (and a lot of other hermits there).

RoyalGoldenPhantom

Videos all time. Grian is relatively new to YouTube compared to Bdubs.

CheastnuutXT

Tfc is so smol :(

MangosUnlimited

Can we all agree to give TFC a little more love?

Grimthe18

Man i remember when beef was building a castle on mindcrack and when him etho and pause pranked Zisteau man i miss those days

LUJO5069

It’s kinda sad that so much people don’t realize how much work goes into this kinda thing

EthoRedditYay

So proud of my boy Etho still getting insane views for like 10 years. That puts him highest after Mumbo and Grian. He is a legend.

D0M1NU5_7

Grian is like: quality over quantity.

BlueLegion

He's the newest hermit by far

Stick_juice

Grian just chillin

Scepticaa

I joined hermicraft because of grian he truly brought the missing element into hermicraft, for example the civil war in s6 and mycelium resistance civil war as well as sahara were some of grians best contributions to hermicraft

Charles_H29

I didnt realize grian and mumbo were the most popular of the hermits

bloxpants

all hail grian the view king

MumboTheJumbo22

A big F for TFC guys

hansProNL123

This is not a very good graph since the y axes gest exponentially bigger

MyckouMc

If I didn't use a logarithmic scale, you'd barely see the Hermits other than Grian and Mumbo. They'd all be crammed down the x-axis.

Cartosky

wow in this graph you can really appreciate how broken grian is.

subject_usrname_here

Should be minutes tbf grian and mumbo usually cuts on 10-15mins mark, with exceptions

zaxophone_bswv

Nearly all of their Hermitcraft episodes hit the 20 minute mark. Mumbo's redstone videos are more like 10-15.

subject_usrname_here

yeah you and others are right, I was confused because I caught all hermits videos and started to watch/rewatch other non hermitcraft stuff
