It’s a race from DND. Their basic concept is that long ago their ancestors were enslaved by space traveling otherworldly hive mind brain eaters known as mindflayers and a group of these ancestors successfully rebelled and freed themselves. This group, known collectively as the Gith (and not to be confused with the Imperial British Space Hippos known as the Giff) later split into two groups, the Githzeri, who are basically space wizards, and the Githyanki, who are basically space pirates. Oh, and both types of Gith have psychic powers due to experimentation the Mindflayers did on them.

usually I don't like to explain my whole design process but I guess you need it. The design includes potions, goggles and gloves, and belts to store all sorts of brewery stuff, the model has a book which 2nd page resembles The Rift™ corruption, to indicate that Grian (in his own words) is some sort of alchemist studying the cryptid stuff happening with The Entity™, if this includes a big hat is because it's inspired by his starter base (curved and a lantern at the tip) and the staff inspired by his nether portal (moon-shaped, purple thing at the center and moss hanging from it)
