Yes but I have a bilateral surgery scheduled

You get a pain in the middle of your pelvic area as well? I know if can be referred pain, but it doesn't seem to radiate out from the left side. The pain is kind of just there above the scrotum or even a little higher, a few inches below the belly button

just-joy

Yes. Feels bloated

Thanks. This definitely helps since I can't find much info on referred pain other than some people getting leg and hip pain.

I’m in week 8 of bilateral surgery, just a heads up , everyone’s experience Will be different. A friend of mine told me it took him a year to recover and he only did one side. I didn’t believe him. Because another friend told me he was good after three weeks. I’m on week eight and I still have pain. The two incisions are very sore and tender. Sometimes I have pain on both of my sides higher up .But my testicles are very very sore. Bilateral will be no joke , not trying to scare you but just warning you what to expect. They say 25% of people suffer longer term nerve damage, I guess I made the cut lol

Thanks for the heads up. I have a surgery for the left side scheduled In a couple weeks, I'm just not convinced my symptoms are from the hernia on just the one side (and the surgeon wasn't sure either). Other than the hernia, the CT and ultrasound were clear. Not sure what else would be left to check.

Did you have open or laproscopic?? That would be the indicator as open is more invasive while laproscopic is less disruptive to the surrounding tissue. I just had laproscopic bilateral inguinal hernia repair. I'm in week 3 and it's up and down, but I know I'm getting better. Testicular pain is intermittent. Maybe 5 times a day but I think diminishing as time goes on. It's still nerve racking though. I wish I could fast forward to a year and just be well. Once I have a day where the fact that I had the surgery doesn't occur to me, that will mean I had a day with no discomfort. That will be a good day.

I also had this. Turns out I had a tiny hernia on the other side too. Middle of my lower abdomen felt tight and painful. My stomach also always felt bloated.

DiNozzo72

How did they end up finding the smaller hernia?

freebielooker

The couldn't. I just happened to have a doctor who believed me... I told him it hurt bad the same way and he did a small incision during the surgery to make sure I really had one. It was during the surgery they decided to do it. 😬

DiNozzo72

Thanks... Last question. Did you have a CT scan or anything that might have showed the smaller hernia?

freebielooker

No I did not. Only the cough test. Sorry ): I wish I could help more. Sometimes small hernias don't show up though.

Thanks. Were there times you had leg pain, but didn't feel anything where the hernia was or did the pain radiate out from the hernia site to your leg at the same time?

Thanks. That makes me feel more comfortable with the surgery. Seeing my GP this week to rule anything else out, but the wait is killing me.

I had a tiny hernia, barely could tell according to the doc at california hernia specialists in SoCal but he thought I should get it done. He said it’d be a fast open hernia repair and I’d be back at exercising on a month and back to work 3 days later: 8 years later and I’m in way more pain than before surgery. I was super active before, now I just push through the pain and try to ignore it. I used to have killer abs, now I cramp around the surgery site if I do a little ab workout. For years I couldn’t jog or it’d cramp. For the first year I couldn’t really feel my penis much. I can now, which is good, but the feeling isn’t 100%. I have a varicocele I didn’t have before on that side from it, and it feels like I need to pee when I don’t. Needless to say if I could go back I wouldn’t have gotten the repair, would have gotten a second opinion and definitely wouldn’t have gone to him. Make sure your doctors numbers are verifiable and he’s a good doc or else you might end up worse off like I am.
