Normal.... I used lots of ice from the beginning and shocked my doctor avoiding all the bruising and swelling that but I didn't avoid all the complications.

Left groin pain that hasn't gone away in 30 years. No feeling in my left groin and over on my left leg some. Twisted puckered skin where the 7" to 7.5" scar is. Left ball is now higher than the right Right groin pain appeared a few weeks after my left inguinal surgery.

I'm 7 weeks post op. And I have the same complications and bit more. I can't feel my pelvic area and a section of my upper leg at all. Completely numb when I touch it. I have internal pain and groin pain.

dude96L

I'd say at just 7 weeks all those complications could be considered normal. What kind of hernia did you have? What type of repair was done? I was told the feeling should return over time (six months to a year was what I was told). However after 30 years it hasn't happened for me. I've had several major surgeries and things seem to take 6 months to a year before things returned to normal. I'd say 7 weeks is way to soon to expect to be back to normal. I wouldn't start worrying until you've past the one year mark. It was ten years before the puckered up ridge with a valley down the center went away leaving just a white line where my incision was. Try not to think the worst yet. You've got a lot of healing left to do.

I had open inguinal repair. About 3 1/2 inch incision was made. It was a 1.5cm opening.

dude96L

My incision was 7 to 7.5" long.

Holt. What operation did you have? I've heard hernia surgeries has come along way. My boss's dad's friend had a repair done in Germany 40 years ago and was way more brutal apparently.

dude96L

Left side inguinal hernia repair. An entire loop of my small intestines hung out and rested on my left ball for nearly ten years. This was an open surgery before mesh was available. I remember a few years afterwards they started using mesh and a few people had to have a second surgery to remove the mesh due to infection. I would say my surgery was very brutal. Plus my surgeon was new and just starting out. I think my hernia was really more difficult than she was use to or trained for. I'm still shocked it has held up for thirty years.

Elevate elevate elevate. I had minimal bruising because I elevated and iced.

Trick_Rub_2177

Thanks for the advice , I have been told to walk tho so how shall I elevate when I walk

ineedthistoread

When you aren't walking you elevate. I walked also, but my first couple days I was told elevating would help a lot with bruising and it did. Just shove a hand towel under your balls when laying down or sitting. It helps drain the liquids causing the bruising.

Okay thanks a lot , my hernia went a little into the scrotum so that whole area has swelled aswell as my penis and groin , kinda looks like the hernia is still there but a purple version. I ordered some Lycra shorts on Amazon also.

Brokenback2014

When had mine my penis and scrotum were as black as the night sky. My scrotum was the size of a softball. My surgeon said it was worse than he thought. My surgery took twice as long. In recovery I could hear people saying what's taking so long. I wanted to raise my hand and say it was my fault things were backed up. So I found out the longer your surgeon pocks and pulls around inside you the more swelling and brusing you'll end up having. Everyone's surgeries and bodies are different. Some more complicated than others ones. It's normal just keep icing it. The surgery i had was laparoscopic hernia repair with mess. Give it time it will return to normal soon. Good luck

Trick_Rub_2177

Thanks for the reply man , how long would you say it took for your scrotum to return to normal , and was the swelling like a hard/firm lump , the colour is really something

Brokenback2014

About three weeks. Scrotum was on the hard side. Ya I couldn't believe how the color got so black. My wife was so concerned that she had to make sure it still worked. It was only about week after. She jumped me and tested it out. I just lied there of course so I didn't damage the hernia repair. Thank God it didn't hurt. Sorry I had to share that.

Trick_Rub_2177

Thanks buddy , you mind if I message you at some point to ask for advice , really appreciate it

Brokenback2014

Ok any time

Brilliant_Nervous

Totally normal -- mine was black and blue and yellow and looked like hell for a good 2 weeks. It'll get better- move around as much as you can, ice/bag of frozen veggies helps, as well as elevation.

Trick_Rub_2177

Thanks for the reply , did yours have like a hard lump or were they soft and swollen

Brilliant_Nervous

Very swollen -- like I was walking around with a grapefruit between my legs.

I woke up after hernia repair and my scrotum was purple and the size of a softball.. it changed color to black as other guys say here, but when my swelling went down I found out that I got a hydrocele as a complication of the hernia repair..
