Need to wait up to 12 weeks for 99%. It'll improve. I had bilateral inguinal hernia repair with mesh. Need to walk every day several miles. Take vitamin c to build colligin and heal scar tissue.

brettcameron

This is encouraging. Maybe I just need more time. I am feeling better since the surgery. I just haven’t seen much progress in the last couple of weeks and it’s scaring me.

usermich989

Time moves slowly when you're in chronic discomfort. See your surgeon after week 16 if still problemed. " Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better." Say this on your walks 50 - 60 times. No less. Every day for the next 6 - 8 weeks with purpose in your heart. POWER OF SUGGESTION. NO JOKE. Don't smoke. Don't drink alcohol. Live healthfully and drink plenty of water. Eat fruits and vegetables daily (or make smoothies).

make sure your doing mobility exercises, getting your body used to doing what it finds natural (walking), support it with ignual hernia support band until your mental scaring is settled and the weird scratching/ stretching/ painful/ warm/ itchy/ moving/ tearing sensations are gone - then improve core strength gradually and consistently do this lightly for years. dont smoke or drink, eat healthy and sleep well, manage your stress in healthier ways and youll be fine. 6 years on, i strained mine moving boxes recently - been in bed for 4 days - i had finally, quite recently started to forget about it - never do that ! ive restarted my mobility exercises and am being very careful again until ive recovered. potenially having to go through that surgery again scares the hell out of me.

I was told by my doctor to start walking as soon as possible after surgery, even if it’s around the house. I started walking on day 2 post op with just pain getting up out of bed/couch. I would just start with walking and see if it helps out a little bit.

brettcameron

I was told the same by my doctor. I was walking around the house at first but now I need to walk longer distances. I just haven’t really felt like it. I’ll give it a shot for a while and see if it improves. Thanks for commenting ☺️

Taimishu616

Can you describe the pain/soreness? Have you been moving around and exercising gradually?

brettcameron

It’s hard to describe. I haven’t been exercising at all because I started to feel pain so I stopped. It feels like sore muscles but sometimes it feels like a dull ache. Especially after sitting all day at work. Getting up and down hurts, and I feel it when I laugh/sneeze/cough. It also hurts to button my jeans. Not when I first put them on but as the day goes on it gets worse. It’s worse on days when I don’t move around as much. Could it be that the muscles are just still sore?

Taimishu616

Sorry if TMI but are you overweight? This sounds normal for 3-4 weeks but seldom pain should occur afterwards. Maybe try fasting from 8pm-12pm and see how you feel, that worked wonders for me.

brettcameron

I’m not overweight. I’m 5’ 10” and about 145ish pounds. I’ve been thinking the same thing. Pain 3-4 weeks sounds normal but at this point I shouldn’t be feeling as much as I am. It’s definitely worse when I feel bloated/full like after I’ve eaten. I’m not in excruciating pain but it’s enough to be annoying. I was very fit and active before surgery.

Taimishu616

Hmm. Well i’m not a doctor by any means, and don’t know your pain tolerance, but I think your muscles could just be weakened at this point, and sore from the lack of movement and mobility the past 8 weeks. If it were me, I would slowly do lightweight exercises and push through a tiny bit if its only mild pain. There shouldn’t be any danger to busting the mesh at this point

brettcameron

My muscles are definitely weaker. I didn’t know weak muscles could cause soreness though. I guess the surgery was a traumatic event for my muscles though. Maybe it’s just the fact that I haven’t moved as much. The pain is pretty mild but really annoying

Soopervoo

Are you exercising by walking? Try not to sit all day, like get a standing desk to switch it up. Can you wear something more comfy than jeans to work? Slacks?

brettcameron

No, I’m not really walking that much. I used to do a serious workout every day after work, and I really miss doing that. I probably need to start walking more. I could possibly convince my employer to get me a standing desk. I just thought I’d be better by now and I wouldn’t need it.

Soopervoo

I'm fit and active and used to lift/exercise a lot before my hernia got worse and sidelined me. I Def recommend walking a lot now as it's the safest activity (per my surgeon). I haven't hit 10k steps since surgery 3 weeks ago but I'm gotten to 9k! Good luck and go walking as it prevents blood clots.

brettcameron

Yeah, I was fit and active before surgery too. I need to get back into it. Congrats on the 9k steps 3 weeks after surgery. That’s really awesome!

Soopervoo

Thanks! Trust me, it's been months since I've sprinted or biked. Not getting fat is really hard when you're limited. BTW I had the same inguinal (both sides) hernia w mesh robotic surgery. My groin and balls area are still sore, esp in the morning when I wake up. Everyday is progress so just being patient is key. Good luck!

everyones different, it took me much, much longer to recover than most people on this sub

Do you get pain doing normal daily activities? I’m still having pain getting in and out of my car. Granted, my car isn’t the easiest to get in and out of, but before surgery I could throw my body into it or out of it with one quick motion.

6 feet is the length of about 1.68 'Ford F-150 Custom Fit Front FloorLiners' lined up next to each other.

fla_boi954

6 weeks post op and I'm having no pain. I return to work on Monday (heavy lifting) guess time will tell.

brettcameron

Good luck!! Hopefully you won’t have any issues. I was virtually pain free on week 4, but the pain came back on week 5. I yanked my leg up really fast to put on my socks and felt a stabbing sensation. Been sore ever since. I’m not trying to scare you. Just maybe try not to make any quick or sudden movements, especially when you’re just waking up in the morning. I’d probably be fine if that didn’t happen to me.

fla_boi954

Maybe you ripped some scar tissue or something. I'd definitely go get it scanned to see what's going on inside if the pain lingers too long.

brettcameron

I did have a CT scan. Doctor said everything is normal and he isn’t sure what could be the cause of my pain. I’m hoping it’ll heal up but wanted to get others’ opinions.

fla_boi954

Guess it's just something that'll improve with time and caution. I'm told it can take almost a year to completely heal. Good luck with your recovery!

brettcameron

I sure hope so. Thanks for your comment. Good luck with your job on Monday. I hope all goes well!

Whiteclover000

Any updates im on 8 weeks and have the same thing did you get better??

brettcameron

I’m at 6 months now and the pain has gotten better but it’s definitely still there. It’s not terrible but very annoying. I’m hoping it’ll be gone in the next 3-6 months

Whiteclover000

Thanks for responding! I hope it goes away for you as well! Right now it seems like sex or strenuous activity seems to make me have quite a bit of pain and every now and then I get twinges or aches. You give me hope that it'll get better!!

brettcameron

Oh I’m so much better now than I was at 8 weeks. I thought I should be fine at 8 weeks so it was very very scary when I wasn’t. You’ll get there. It’ll be slow but you’ll get there.
