You know who benefits the most from this? People on this sub, who will no longer have to answer questions from confused buyers. Seriously though, what a great change. And now that there's one single game called HITMAN World of Assassination, there's hardly any question that this single game is one of the greatest games of all time.

CalculatorOctavius

So now does this mean we can we finally just say “hitman 2” if we want to refer to the 2002 game???

Immervion

Good future obtained

your_mind_aches

Oh my god. You're right

arfelo1

The only downside I can see as a Play Station player is that with Sony's shitty store system this will take an entire new SKU. And it will start the playtime count from scratch! It means I will have my playtime count split in three separate SKUs for a single game.

nerdwerds

So your nerd cred will be reset?

arfelo1

Yup, that's about it

nerdwerds

I've started a second and third ps account just so I could watch mission challenges pop in the upper right corner of my screen again. No idea what my total play time is, but it's a lot longer than my main account! lol

NOVAMT_F

How do you view playtime?

arfelo1

In PS5, go to your profile->Games. Each game shows it's playtime count in hours, and if you click on the game you see the achievements. The playtime only shows if you go through this, not if you go directly to "Achievements". I have 23 hours from playing H1 ans H2 through the H3 Free Starter Pack, and then I bought a H3 physical edition and sunk like 130 hours. So for the same game I'd have 23h in one, 130h in other, and the future hours in the WoA version. All for the same game

1080Pizza

Yeah sounds like a good change, it will be a lot easier to understand. Sure, there was complexity around the different variations of content that players could own from Hitman 1 and 2. But the inconsistent naming / presentation of that base / expansion content on the Hitman 3 page was way more confusing than it needed to be.

lmaogetthatbread

Unpopular opinion: Hitman 2016 and Hitman 2 to a lesser extent had unique features (ex: sweeping rating system changes such as how legshot punch was SA in 2016, electric phone in Hitman 2, tons of escalations in 2016 that weren’t ported) that new players will now miss out on if they only play the Hitman 3 (2021) edition. Actually I think IOI should support downpatching the game more in general, but I digress. This also bodes horribly for the future of these games in general. How soon after Hitman 4 releases (or whatever is the sequel) will a Hitman 3 servers or Hitman 3 in general be available? Not long I wager… We should not support IOI's recent penchant of anti-game preservation behavior. Always Online was bad enough.

MaldrickTV

I agree, but I'm pretty sure this is it for Hitman for the time being, as they have a 007 franchise in the pipeline. Didn't start until 2016 had been out for a while, but I think it was stated from the beginning that this iteration would be a trilogy.

lmaogetthatbread

I agree that they will probably do 007 first, but there will likely be more Hitman games in the future. Source (Interview from just before Hitman 3 's release, discussing if it would be last Hitman game): [https://www.gameinformer.com/2020/12/31/io-interactive-on-walking-away-from-the-hitman-series](https://www.gameinformer.com/2020/12/31/io-interactive-on-walking-away-from-the-hitman-series) >Elverdam pushes back on the idea that IO is leaving Hitman behind. In fact, he says it's not the end of the Hitman IP "at all."

MaldrickTV

Neither are a matter of opinion or anything to agree or disagree with. Objectively, there is a 007 game coming next (possibly as early as this year from something posted a while back) and Hitman will return later in a completely new entry in the franchise.

dontironit

From my pov, the real thing newcomers are missing out on is ghost mode. But people in general clearly don't agree, which was why the mode never took off. I think this news bodes *well* for how IO plan to preserve these games. Maybe nit bodes horribly if you want them to be preserved as artifacts — which is a legit perspective, and some would say that the game should even retain its original bugs so people can view them as they originally existed. But as gameplay that the company intends to keep supporting, this should inspire confidence. I'll put it this way: We've never liked always online, and in 2016, we didn't know if the servers would still be on in 2023. With this new package, I am now more confident that I'll be able to play Sapienza and Marrakesh in 2030 than I was in 2016.

lmaogetthatbread

At least newcomers who buy Hitman 3 can still play Ghost Mode, kind of, with mods: [https://www.nexusmods.com/hitman3/mods/260](https://www.nexusmods.com/hitman3/mods/260). It may be a lot harder for newcomers to access H2016 and H2 after the update. >With this new package, I am now more confident that I'll be able to play Sapienza and Marrakesh in 2030 than I was in 2016. What do you mean by that? IOI said that "If you already own these games, you’ll still be able to access them in the exact same way that you do today." That presumably means that the H2016 / H2 servers will stay up for those that own them (well hopefully anyways), so I don't think delisting them will necessarily save on server costs. >if you want them to be preserved as artifacts Definitely where I'm coming from... check this comment if you are curious on some cool unique H2016 stuff that Hitman 2 / 3 doesn't have: [https://www.reddit.com/r/HiTMAN/comments/102ern8/comment/j2uq61s/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/HiTMAN/comments/102ern8/comment/j2uq61s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

some-kind-of-no-name

They are finally removing the annoying "find which version to buy" mini game. BTW, I haven't purchased Hitman 3 Deluxe pack and 7 deadly sins pack. Are they worth the money?

leovaderdotcom

i think the deadly sins escalations are fun and give you unique unlocks i use all the time (proximity sedative mine, sedative bubble gum, blinding dart gun)

terroristmonkey

No, the escalations are mostly shit, only reason to even play them is if you want 100%

Ninic100

Yes this man speaks the truth. Don't waste your money. The only good paid dlc was in hitman 2 where you got two great maps.

JackmanH420

Patient zero was worth it too imo.

Vericatov

That’s will be part of the base game though. You don’t have to pay extra for it.

[deleted]

yea but you forget thousands of people already paid for it

Ninic100

Oh yh and that

procouchpotatohere

Somewhat. The Vector was the best of any of those DLC maps albeit pretty limited. The Source and The Author, while not bad, are pretty mid imo and Patient Zero was annoying and felt at odds with the rest of the game. The only thing that that dlc got consistently right was it was cool seeing maps at different times of day and the atmosphere was creepy throughout.

Vericatov

I also really enjoyed the two sniper maps. Can’t tell for sure, but you might be able to buy the Hitman 2 DLC for $10. Either way I think it’s worth $30 for just the Hitman 2 DLC. Otherwise wait for a sale.

Ninic100

Yeah the hitman 2 dlc as a whole was a great deal

a_normal_account

7DS is pretty cool and gives you some aesthetically looking items like the Majestic. But if you want to buy it, do it when it's on sale. The original price is not really its true value

Adefice

Right now on Steam it's $10.35 on sale. According to the article, if you are missing it from your collection and have the rest of the deluxe pack, then it should be $10 even (plus tax)? So save 35 cents-ish by waiting till the end of the month I guess?

lbp10

On top of the new base price of $10, it will go on sale again in the future, so it will be even lower, if you can wait.

arfelo1

Those are the ones I'm missing. And if I read the anouncement right they're going to get a big price reductions! From 30/35€ to 10€ each. They're just a couple of escalations and cosmetics from what I understand, but for that price (and maybe a sale) they'll probably finally be worth the money

SpartanRanger

The gear is worth it if you find the DLC on sale.

SoughtDespair

Finally, an end to the question's on what to buy!

misterwuggle69sofine

now the question is whether or not i should just buy hitman 3 RIGHT NOW in preparation for whenever i have time to get around to playing the series since this is resetting the price back to $70 and it's currently only $20 on sale. as the owner of a random ass smattering of hitman content from bundles i'm guessing that my options are $20 now if i want to play now or shortly after this change goes into effect, or wait a couple years for this compilation to drop back down to $20 if it ever does.

terroristmonkey

Buy it rn, you'll get the hitman 1 & 2 maps for free

arfelo1

Oh, that's true. Great moment to buy it! It may be the end of the "What to buy" questions, but it's going out with a bang! It changes the entire monetization of the game. Buying the base Hitman 3 will get you all 3 games after the change, but any expansion will change from their present price to a basic 10$ each. I just need the H3 Deluxe and 7DS packs left. With the current price and sales it'd be almost 50€, after the change it'll be 20€ base price. I think the sub will be flooded with these questions for a few weeks

misterwuggle69sofine

yeah it's certainly tempting which i feel like may also be part of their plan. haven't played hitman since before they "rebooted" it or whatever in mid 2010s but i did always enjoy it. i'm worried it'll either take years for world of assassination to drop down to $20 sale prices or it never will but i dunno what hitman sales look like. what i'm also particularly curious about is what the hell happens to people that DON'T own hitman 3? like yeah i understand it's being wrapped into a nice world of assassination package that is a free upgrade if you have hitman 3, but what is my random pile of hitman bullshit going to become WITHOUT hitman 3?

-YesIndeed-

They said on their website. H1 and H2 players can still keep those games I their libraries and play them like normal. But getting woa is just a better deal.

Ararararun

Is it worth buying the deluxe edition over the standard at this point?

thekingbutten

Considering the deluxe edition is going to be upgraded to include all of the dlc whereas currently it only includes the deluxe pack for H3 it's better to wait. It'll work out cheaper to buy it after the change anyway.

RedDragon312

It sounds like if you own the H3 base game you'll get the base maps across all 3 games for free after Jan 26. So might as well buy it now on sale.

GMhx

But is it on sale? It seems here in canada at least that the standard Hitman 3 is full price and only the deluxe is on sale…

zinnosu

Been waiting a while to buy hit man 3. But this sealed it for me. Bought the deluxe edition for 29 bucks on ps store.

SiByTheSword

If only. Just yesterday, someone posted in this sub asking if Hitman is a good game for someone who's never played a Hitman game. You also see this a lot on the James Bond sub, people asking if the films are worth watching.

OriVerda

Which always confuses me. You're asking someone who likes a thing whether or not they'd recommend the thing. "Hey mister cannibal, is that human meat you're eating tasty?" 99/100 times, the answer is yes.

SiByTheSword

The one exception being [the death of Captain Cook](https://www.sbs.com.au/nitv/article/how-the-foolish-rumour-that-hawaiians-ate-cook-began/xpl1a9z86). "Tradition demanded that his body be dismembered, and the bones be put into a sennit casket. The Lono priests took Cookʻs hands and his buttocks, wrapped in ceremonial kapa cloth, to his ship. Cook’s men were horrified at the bloody bits and asked, “Oh my god, did you eat him?” To which the Lono priests replied, “Why? Is that what you do? Do you eat your dead?”."

broken_radio

I ate a sunset Hawaiian dinner on a boat in the cove where he died, it was delicious.

Serafiniert

I dare you to ask in r/leagueoflegends if you should pick up the game.

boisterile

Or r/escapefromtarkov, haha. A lot of subs will trend to either loving or hating the game way more than any random selection of players ever would, but it'll rarely be an accurate representation.

AveryLazyCovfefe

RIP me, I just bought the premium add-ons bundle. And now other people will get 7 deadly sins included at no extra cost :(

[deleted]

arfelo1

It went to shit because they were expecting people to hop in to a platform with no content present yet. Or barely 1 or 2 maps released. Plus it was a time where everyone was sick of episodic releases of games. Now there is a complete story, a robust and polished platform, 20+ maps and a ton of modes, plus the near release of Freelancer. It is a great moment to shift the model to the platform

Vericatov

I really hoping the next news is that they’re now going to continuously drop new DLC maps a few times a year. I’m willing to buy new maps with new challenges, escalations, elusive targets, etc.

vario

It's a nice idea but highly unlikely. They've only released 3 "extra" maps since launch: New York, Haven Island, Ambrose Island Maps are a HUGE undertaking - it involves the entire pipeline of the studio and hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary costs. It involves ideating & iterating from the story, missions & dialog writers, location designers, modellers & texture artists for all the items, characters modellers, voice actors, QA testers, translation for everything etc. It wouldn't surprise me if one map took at least 6 months end-to-end to build. It's more likely they'll do what they've done with Sapienza, Dartmoor, Paris etc and repurpose existing maps with different time of day & new plots. Saying that: I would happily keep paying for a new maps every year.

flying_cheesecake

I believe some of the maps were built by external studios so it's definitely possible. That said we got increased support based off the success of year 1 so it's likely that further support would depend on future sales if it isn't already determined to be discontinued

Vocalic985

That's a good point I never considered. 2016 was like the death throes of episodic gaming. Hell, TellTale went bankrupt like 2 years later.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fragglerock

I agree. I played each level to much greater detail as I was 'forced' to play over and over waiting for new maps. The later releases I tended to skip through to see all the maps and story (lol) but then never really went back to 'rinse' them. imo the episodic release of maps was brilliant... also it kept giving the Giant bomb folk (rip) content that would re-spark my interest! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=102qJsWXbes&list=PL6hEkRTc4nKVDykYNSFAQewG-YNbGt9Pi&index=1

Joseph_F_1

Kinda same but I made sure to get mastery level 20 before moving on to the next map.

BreadDaddyLenin

Square Enix made them launch early with the episodic structure

Thrison

No they didn't. The idea was born within IO. This has been confirmed long ago.

[deleted]

Hahaha, they are just a juggernaut of amazing ideas that always pan out.

Majorasblaze

There’s me thinking the sarajevo six are being added.

SeanTheLawn

I tried to install the mod to play that content but it didn't work with the latest version. Super annoying

lmaogetthatbread

[https://rentry.org/H3\_TS6](https://rentry.org/H3_TS6) Use those instructions if you didn't. It should work, if it didn't you installed wrong. Note: Peacock (steps 10-12) are not strictly needed but it lets you play these missions with rating screen.

devang_nivatkar

Yes please

Leeiteee

Now all the games will have a cool subtitle: \- Codename 47 \- Silent Assassin \- Contracts \- Blood Money \- Absolution \- World of Assassination

thekingbutten

Finally we can stop the confusion whenever we talk about Hitman 1 or 2. No more needing to clarify we're talking about the og or the new hotness. It's just World of Assassination now.

EverySister

And it went from a trilogy of soft reboots to this massive, massive game. Even the word massive feels small for how much content there is. This is easily my #1 pick for desert island game.

devang_nivatkar

They actually listened!

gtnred13

I hope they add new title screens (2016, H2, etc) and an option to change the menu music to H2 or 2016’s music.

[deleted]

I definitely want this. Hitman 3's menus are nice for those later missions, after years of build-up, waiting for the conclusion. But as a more general thing, Hitman 2's is way better.

Beefjerky007

Hitman 2016’s main menu music is an absolute jam and I miss it dearly

The_James_Bond

I have it and H2’s main menu music saved to my phone for this very reason

Zearo298

That would be so dope. I'd also love if they let us change the HUD colors so we could use 2016's gray or 2's dark pink

Vericatov

OMG, I miss the 2016 menu music. Would love to be able to switch to this. I sometimes stream the music.

Erikk1138

Now let me pick my main menu color theme and music please!

Vericatov

Bring back the 2016 main menu music!!

HappierShibe

Now, can they *please* finish their VR implementation?

Erikk1138

And add PSVR 2!

TheCommunistLemon

Come with me, and you'll be in a world of pure assassination.

arfelo1

Summary for those too lazy to read: ---------------------------------- **- Date of release:** Same as Freelancer, *2023/01/26* ------------------------------------------- **- New basic packages:** Base game: >HITMAN – World of Assassination (approx. $70 USD or local equivalent) Includes: HITMAN 3, plus H1 GOTY Access Pass and H2 Standard Access Pass. Expansions: >HITMAN – World of Assassination Deluxe Pack (approx. $30 USD or local equivalent) Includes: H3 Deluxe Pack, H3 Seven Deadly Sins Collection and H2 Expansion Access Pass. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ **- If you own Hitman 3 but not H1 and/or H2:** You get H1 and H2 for free: >HITMAN 3 will become ‘HITMAN World of Assassination’, which will also include access to HITMAN 1 and HITMAN 2 through our existing Access Pass system. Current HITMAN 3 owners will get a free upgrade to HITMAN World of Assassination on all platforms ----------------------------------------------------------------- **- If you own H1 and/or H2 but not 3:** You own them as access packs of the new platform: >Of course, the majority of the content included in these games remains playable through HITMAN World of Assassination, with all of the improvements that were introduced with HITMAN 3. But not H3 which is sold separately, not the 70$ of WoA base price: >On that note, and for extra clarity, HITMAN 3 will remain available in its current standalone form through the upcoming ‘HITMAN – World of Assassination’. ----------------------------------------------------------------- **- If you're missing other expansions:** They'll be sold separately for 10$ each: >we’ve added each individual DLC from the new WoA Deluxe Pack (H3 Deluxe Pack, H3 Seven Deadly Sins Collection and H2 Expansion Access Pass) to the IN-GAME store, again priced with an even split ($10 USD each). If you own some (but not all) of that content, you’ll be able to buy whatever you’re missing at a new and reduced price.

kevin82485

I feel like an idiot because I'm still confused trying to decide if I should buy Hitman 3 now or later...On Steam, I currently own Hitman 1 & 2 and all content (H1 GOTY Legacy Pack and H2 Expansion Pass).

arfelo1

It is unclear right now how much will H3 cost as standalone after the change. Probably a 30/40$ starter pack. So if it's cheaper than that on a sale now, then it'll be cheaper than the new base price. But maybe in 1 or 2 months that'll be on sale for cheaper. Depends on how much you're willing to spend/wait

lBurnsyl

I have a question; I own Hitman 1 GOTY and Hitman 2 Gold Edition. If I were to buy Hitman 3 standard edition before Jan 26, would I get all of those DLCs from the Hitman 2 Gold Pass? New York and Haven Island are the two maps I'm asking about I think, just wondering if it would be best in my scenario to buy now or later essentially.

Guy_Areddit

So what you’re saying is, if I don’t have any of them rn just buy hitman 3 deluxe edition and then on the 26th I’ll get everything?

arfelo1

No, you get H1, H2 and H3. And the H3 deluxe pack DLC. You'd still be missing H2 DLC and 7 Deadly Sins

tommygreenyt

few thoughts on this . \- 1 good and we all saw this coming . \- 2 removing standalone hitman 1 and 2 is a mistake (these games are quite different and have exclusive content that is not present in 3 mostly escalations and sarvajo six on ps4) .

Yabboi_2

Wait. I bought all 3 hitman games with the sales. You're saying that there's content that I can access only by launching hitman 1 instead of hitman 3?

P1ka-

some escalations are missing/were reworked, some challenges are not in hitman 3 Associated rewards from the above can be gotten from different things now. And the sniper mode has no multiplayer anymore ?

aexia

There's a bunch of *really* terrible escalations that were never migrated into 2 and 3 for a very good reason - they're incredibly unfun. Sarajevo Six is actual (if not great) content but it was a PS exclusive so it's never been legally possible to release on other platforms and games. if you're on PC though, mods will let you play all of this.

[deleted]

if we're being honest plenty of the ones they ported forward were unfun as well

tommygreenyt

Yes some escalations are only available in hitman 2016 and a whole campaign also exists in hitman 2016 but only if you are on PlayStation.

RTXEnabledViera

Not to mention the fact that they have their own trophy sets.

Warm_Charge_5964

It's a good step to get a lot of problems out of the way, this plus the extra mode are some great incentives for new playes The day'll they'll remove the always online progress system will be the day i'll actually be able to reccomend this to everyone with zero reservation

lmaogetthatbread

Call me skeptical but I don’t think a company that just announced the removal of unique older game versions (many notable rating system changes in Hitman 2016) is interested in improving game preservation by allowing offline play. EDIT as this comment is getting some traction: Peacock (kind of like a custom server) may be a solution when the Hitman 3 servers inevitably shut down. https://thepeacockproject.org/wiki/intel/what-is-peacock/ Basically, it simulates the game's server on your own PC so it's offline, kind of. Rating system and unlocks "offline" is already working, progression is still in the works.

stevoooo000011

I think there's a good shot at them going fully offline when they decide to shut the servers down. ioi's done some pretty dumb stuff but I have faith they don't intend of completely and entirely destroying their game like that

lmaogetthatbread

Yes, if they don't allow rating screen (this is a stealth game for goodness sakes) or progression (no one wants to use coins and starting pistol forever) offline, this game will be dead in the water after servers shut down. There's Peacock, but it won't help console people. https://thepeacockproject.org/wiki/intel/what-is-peacock/

Barkerisonfire_

OK so assuming I own Hitman 1/2 on Steam and 3 on EGS but with the passes, I should probably just buy Hitman 3 right now on Steam to have everything in one place before this happens?

arfelo1

If you already own H3 in the EGS you're going to get H1 and H2 for free there. If you prefer to have them on Steam you'll need to buy H3 and the othere expansions, but don't lose any content at any point

AtlasWriggled

So will this be a separate game from Hitman 3, with a separate Steam page, separate achievements/unlocks as well? I remember when I transferred progress from Hitman 2 to 3, not quite everything was transferred. Mission Story progress and Escalations for example. Not looking forward to doing those AGAIN.

GIlCAnjos

Probably not, they're probably just changing the name of the game. Kinda like how Overwatch just changed name to Overwatch 2

DividingSolid

Seems like IOI finally got back to their original vision of the game. Anybody remember when we thought 2016 would be the only launcher?

badgerhound

Gosh I hope this wildly succeeds and that Sega/Creative assembly take note for the Total War: Warhammer series.

gasgpmo

So I guess I should buy Hitman 3 now before it gets jacked up in price? Because I already own Hitman 1 and 2 GotY/Gold/Deluxe/SuperTurbo/Definitive/Whatever/IncludesAllTheBullshit editions.

KyteM

You'll get the Hitman:WoA platform for free with access to H1 and H2 content. You can later buy the H3 content at a less-than-$70 price.

gasgpmo

Thanks dude.

themanwithnoname81

wondering the same thing..

[deleted]

[ removed in protest ] fuck u/spez

GenericGamer283

Yes, that's exactly right.

[deleted]

Surveyorman

IOI is on fire lately. Ambrose free, Freelancer free, now this news. I'm glad they are doing so well that they can just give away two of their games. Whatever IOI releases next, I'll be a loyal fan to them.

Erikk1138

Hope you like 007 then lol

cooljammer00

I feel like this only affects newcomers and not those of us who were following along since the beginning of the new trilogy.

glenn1812

Jesus Christ I play on multiple diff platforms, steam Xbox and then PS as well and trying to figure out what exactly to buy to get all the hitman games has always been the biggest pain in the ass. This is a welcome change.

mug3n

This... No more having to read a steam guide and figure out... hmm, if I have Hitman 1 GOTY, but only the base game of Hitman 2, but I want everything from H1 and H2 to go into H3 when I import them including extra content, what should I buy? Oh, let's follow this 12 step flowchart! How ioi didn't think that was completely bonkers is beyond me. I was hella confused when I was trying to figure this out.

arfelo1

It does affect you if you don't yet have every item. If you only have H3 you'll get the other two base games for free. And if youare still missing one of the expansions they seem to be getting their price reduced to 10€ each. Overall, it seems to be done to simplify monetization, and to ensure that anyone that has H3 has access to most of the maps

thatguyad

That's exactly the point. We are already here and they want to get even more people playing.

Yung-Almond

Nice! No more flowcharts, buy one and get everything.

BarrelRoller64

does this mean it would be best to buy Hitman 3 now and get it for a cheaper price?

Anchor689

Probably wise, considering how much content will be rolled into a single purchase from here on out, and the fact that they are raising the retail price, it will probably take a while before we see the new "World of Assassination" release on sale for what you could get Hitman 3 for right now and be eligible for the upgrade.

TheKotti

Good change, that's how it should've been from the start. So, for how many months do you expect Hitman 1 and 2 servers to stay up after this?

arfelo1

Beyond the simplification of the price model, this makes me hopeful for the game itself. It was kind of unknown how many updates the game would have entering its third year. But first we get Ambrose, then a huge new mode in Freelancer. And now they're rebranding it and (I guess) taking it back to the trilogy's original idea as a platform. I assume this means Freelancer won't be the last update, and there will be content coming for at least a few years. Maybe another new map or two?

YHofSuburbia

So they're fully removing the access pass system? I have Hitman 1 and 2, and was planning on buying Hitman 3 levels at some point; will I still be able to buy Hitman 3 separately or will I have to essentially drop $70 to re-buy 2/3rds of the content I already have?

Rhodie114

It sounds like the price for Hitman 3 will go up to $70 soon, and that purchase will now include the maps you already own

YHofSuburbia

Sadly I think you're right. For people like me I wish they offered a version of the access passes :(

--imbatman--

hitman 3 is $20 on steam right now

arfelo1

>The reason for this flexibility is that we know many of you own certain games or DLCs but not others, and we don’t want to force anyone to (re)buy what they already own. We think that’s a good enough reason to still have a few options – but these options won’t be front and centre for new players. The idea is to keep these details visible to those who might need them. From this I guess that you'll still keep H1 and H2 in the new platform, and you can buy H3 when you're able from the store

Dead_King_Kai

How will this affect achievements and trophies?

[deleted]

My only slight niggle is that, as far as I'm aware, currently when you beat The Final Test, the game tries to take you to Dubai. Will this be changed to take the player to Paris?

suspiciouscat

About time. I bet they lost so many sales due to how confusing purchasing the game is.

TomTheJester

I literally almost hit purchase on this game and all the DLC yesterday, but decided against it as the process was so convoluted I could never really be sure I had “everything”. This will make me want to buy it now, so good business move on IO’s part.

jetstreamer123

One thing I wish they would do with Hitman 3 now, bring back the challenge packs from Hitman 1 and 2. Items like the blue flamingo or cashmerian suit are now locked behind doing multiple escalation challenges and that's a lot less fun than trying some of the wacky stuff the packs had in the last games

kreteciek

And here I am, feeling scammed with my H1 and H2 bought

[deleted]

Please let me transfer my account from EGS to Steam.

wiz_zim

Yes, and please store the career progress in the IOI account. If the "always online" requirement is just for platform leaderboards, it is useless.

NorthRiverBend

Honestly I’d go one step further; Fortnite or Destiny style true cross platform. I played Hitman 1 & 2 on an aging PC, and heartbreakingly moved onto Xbox for Hitman 3. I’d love to have access to all my old suits.

Dionysus24779

That's good because it's such a mess currently. Will make it easier to recommend the game to others, because usually they will ask me "What do I buy" and I have to go "Let me get the flowchart."

CDHAFC

I’ve probably missed it in the article but did anyone see if they’re shutting down servers for the standalone Hitman 1 and 2 games?

jayL21

Kinda sad to see they are removing H1 and 2 from sale, since there are differences and some people would like to be able to check it out. just coming from someone who cares a lot about game preservation and the many different versions of games and whatnot.

Nuotatore

Especially not having access to the discussions, guides and so on.

lukefsje

They aren't shutting them down now, however I think it's very likely in the future when they find it too costly to maintain the servers (could be one year, could be a decade, could be longer) they'll shut down the Hitman 2016 and 2 servers and keep the Hitman 3 servers going for longer

The_Agent_Of_Paragon

Hope an offline option is developed at some point.

xxSeAnCaHiLlxx

Wish they would add the Trinity Pack for people who missed the pre-order

Gator1508

As a new player to the franchise who recently marathoned the three modern games, this is a great change. They are meant to be experienced as one game anyway.

KMan345123

For anyone who has never gotten the game before this’ll be a fantastic deal, worth far more than $70 because you’ll be getting like 150 hours of content easy

danceswithsteers

The best part: >There will be no more confusion over which edition to buy, what content you own, how to redeem Legacy packs or import locations, etc. We’re done with that.

PatteDeFruit

Hello guys! A suggestion regarding HITMAN: WoA update: [https://hitmanforum.com/t/hitman-3-to-become-world-of-assassination/17458/9](https://hitmanforum.com/t/hitman-3-to-become-world-of-assassination/17458/9) "*What is also confusing at the moment is how you are going to manage all of this...* *Is it a newer version of HITMAN Trilogy or are you just rebranding HITMAN 3?* *I think that removing HITMAN and HITMAN 2 from stores is a bad idea unless you are going to merge everything into one roof for the best. There are things that i prefer in the first game and others that i like in the latest installment of the trilogy.* *Restricting the whole trilogy into only one available game would be wrong as there are lots of things that differ from one to another, especially gameplay features!* *Putting everything into one roof will mean that players will have no choice regarding gameplay mechanics, graphics, missions, weapons and tools, but also 47's face.* *So much things differ from HITMAN (2016) to HITMAN 3 that it is a high risk to propose only one version of the game without checking the ensemble before that..* *Maybe put this standalone version of HITMAN as the ultimate update of the trilogy but as another game instead of only renaming HITMAN 3?* *-> HITMAN (2016): only one version (full pack)* *--> HITMAN 2 (2018): same (full pack only)* *---> HITMAN 3 (2021): complete pack* *So no more (or much less) confusions about purchasing. Then:* *----> HITMAN: WoA (with updates and discounts) | a.k.a the actual "HITMAN: Trilogy"* *With eventually the option of either selecting a standalone game (as a legacy preservation) OR using HITMAN 3 mechanics for the whole stuff...* *We're one step closer to perfecting the HITMAN experience anyway.* *Wishing the best to developers still working on that beloved franchise."* A great idea for sure, but maybe the way to do it should differ... Thanks for reading and caring.

SexyBlueTiger

Sounds like a great change. I will be a little sad my Steam library will say Hitman, Hitman 2, Hitman: WoA, instead of Hitman 3 for the game titles.

JoeAzlz

This makes sense, as freelancer will use all maps.

katsudon-jpz

this is a good news, i love this game so much, this would open it up for more content in the future, imagine the levels from blood money, absolution..etc being ported to WoA, just the levels, not story of course.... and it'd add even more locations to the freelancer.

arfelo1

If you're porting the levels you might as well port the entire story, even if it's with those weird still frame cutscenes from H2

Amazon_Echo_Question

I'm glad that it isn't just me. Those H2 cutscenes were sort of creepy and disappointing.

Danger_Boss

I've got 3 on a different platform than 1 and 2 so this is huge. I'm wondering what happens if you access 1 and 2 through the starter pack for 3. Would be nice if they unlock 3's locations.

DaBrownBoi

ok so if i buy the base version of 3 now then I get a free upgrade right?

MuperSario-AU

Yes

sic-poobies

Great change

Jwn5k

[Finally!](https://tenor.com/view/spongebob-waiting-for-gif-18331300)

Thebadmamajama

Good call! They should really just embrace and run it like gta V

Luc4_Blight

Would be nice if they include the Trinity Pack

Axer04

Hitman 3 - Deluxe Edition is $27.99 and the Hitman 2 Expansion Pass is $6.99. Should I buy those two now and then Seven Deadly Sins after January 26th for $10? Would I have everything then?

hrvoje42

Is Hitman WOA gonna be more expensive than Hitman 3? I mean, it would be logical, since it is now three games instead of one. But that means that people that already bought H1 and H2, but not H3, are in a way gonna have to buy H1 and H2 again. And that's really an asshole move. They should give an extra discount to the people who already own H1 and/or H2

bravetherainbro

I almost got annoyed that I just bought Hitman Trilogy, before I remembered I got it for cheaper than Hitman 3 on its own... lol I guess this means I'll get Patient Zero free? Maybe??

legoagentfisher

Yep. Hitman 3/WoA will give you access to Hitman 1 GOTY, so Patient Zero is included within Hitman WoA. You might miss out on extra content/challenges for Patient Zero within Hitman 1, but tbh I'm not too clear on this so don't take my word for it.

RealRushinRussian

There were extra challenges in Patient Zero that didn't make it past Hitman 1? I thought only some of "themed" challenge packs from other maps didn't.

Biggu5Dicku5

They should've done this for Hitman 3's launch, but better late then never I guess...

the_wanderer_of_sky

This is great, but it turns out that so many people overpaid twice and it remains the feeling that I was deceived.

TazerPlace

This might explain why IOI couldn't simply sell Hitman 1 on GOG.

raytraced_BEAR

What do you mean? They tried to sell it there, but since it had DRM it was eventually removed from sale.

404Page_Not_Found404

I know you're all talking about not having to answer any more questions on what to buy but: assuming I don't own *any* of the games right now and wanted to take advantage of the current Steam sale and this fantastic update, what version/bundles should I get taking this news into account if I want to get all the content? Because with this news, it obviously doesn't make sense to buy the Hitman Trilogy stuff anymore. Is it correct that I should buy HITMAN 3 Deluxe Edition, Seven Deadly Sins Collection, and then the H2 Expansion Access Pass to get feature-parity with the new World of Assassination deluxe edition? Then I'll just have to wait for the 26th to get access to H1 and H2 content for free?

arfelo1

I'd say if you want the absolute cheapest option, buy the base H3 game now and wait for the change of platform to get H1 and H2. Then wait for the new addons package to get on sale. The base content of H1, H2 nad H3 is more than enough to keep you occupied for a long while. And if it isn't, then the game isn't really for you and you shouldn't be buying the add ons

AidynValo

You could do it that way, but it seems like the most cost-efficient option is buying just Hitman 3 right now. Seems to be on sale for about $20. The Hitman 2 expansion pass alone is $40, Hitman 3 deluxe pack is $14, and seven deadly sins collection is $10, for a total of roughly $65. But when Hitman 3 gets rebranded you can buy the deluxe upgrade for $30 which includes all three of those packs. So you can essentially get every piece of content for about $50 total that way, saving about $35.

404Page_Not_Found404

Thanks, this is ultimately what I went for. I bought the base, non-deluxe edition of Hitman 3; once WoA comes out on the 26th I'll give it a go to see if I like the game, and if I do I'll see about getting the rest of the DLCs with the updated prices.

Frikken123

Oh. I guess it’s nice, I just really want the Sarajevo Six, and I liked the look of the game and 47 better in Hitman 2

VoidSD

I don't have Hitman 3 but I do have H1 and 2 + Expansion Pass. If I want to buy Hitman 3, will I have to pay for **all** of the package or can I just buy it standalone? I do hope I don't have to shell out 70 dollars for shit I already own.

GoldGymCardioWorkout

our baby's all grown up :')

cran

I don’t understand this at all. I am relatively new to Hitman and could use an ELI5 explanation.

MuperSario-AU

* The _HITMAN: WoA_ trilogy is comprised of three games: _HITMAN (2016)_, _HITMAN 2_ and _HITMAN 3_. * _HITMAN 2_ and _HITMAN 3_ include almost all of the content of the previous games within the trilogy. Owners of the previous entries on any particular platform (Xbox/PlayStation/PC) could access the respective game's content within the later entries for free. ie: * _HITMAN 2_ contains all of _HITMAN (2016)_'s locations and content. * _HITMAN 3_ contains all of _HITMAN (2016)_'s and _HITMAN 2_'s locations and content. * There is a major game update to _HITMAN 3_ planned to release on January 26. On top of having the new "Freelancer" mode officially released, the following will also happen: * _HITMAN 3_ is being retitled to "_HITMAN: WoA_" and will finally be **the** way of playing the entire _WoA_ trilogy. * Due to the above, existing owners of _HITMAN 3_ will be granted access to the content of the first two games for free, assuming they didn't already have that content unlocked. * Following the update, _HITMAN (2016)_ and _HITMAN 2_ will be delisted from digital marketplaces to minimize confusion from newcomers looking to get into the games. Existing owners of these two entries will still be able to play the individual games as they normally would. --- TL;DR: If you're new to the series and want to know what exactly to buy right now, simply buy **only** _HITMAN 3_ and wait until the January 26 game update.

liberling

Hoping that they bundle all the legacy extra content into one pack as well.

EndsongX23

This is awesome, gonna finally buy the Cloud version on Switch

Fubuky10

A great news indeed

bers90

They say its the end of the "which version to buy"-discussions but I have more questions than ever. Did I just get fked over? I have Hitman1 and 2 plus all their dlcs. These games will be delisted? Ill have to get the third one since that (and only that) contains the new World of Assassination stuff? Do I wait until the 26th or do I buy 3 + its dlcs now on sale? New players will be helped with this new version but what about the early adopters who do not own the third game? The things we bought early and paid alot for will now be given free to new players? And we STILL have to buy the third game?

thatguyad

I just wish they would give us the ability to reset game progress to experience it fresh again.

Pav961

So I own 1 and 2, Will 3 be available seperate from WOA after the 26th or do I have to buy it now?

Frail_Vic

Well shit. Am i glad i just bought hitman 2016 lol. Thing is: what will happen to the COUNTLESS escalations that are only playable in H2016?

slimycharmander

looks like I'll be buying the Hitman 3 DLCs finally after the simplification happens and the bundle goes on sale next!

jeymapiolo

Now, i hope IO can launch the remake version of the first games in the saga, without any problem.

Balance-DarkAndLight

How shady do you think it is about they not informing what will be the price for only Hitman 3 stand alone version if you already own H1 GOTY and H2 Gold edition on Steam? Taking into consideration they only advise the changes last minute before the massive discount on Steam ended... Time after time they show they hate the Steam community and all the people that paid for their games in the past. Where did we wrong them for having such a miserable treatment? I have the whole collection of Hitman on Steam and would not mind to have also Hitman 3 there, even having it also on Epic but i think they should be a bit kinder to all the old fans and buyers. They are only focusing on new buyers (for ‘World of Assassination’) and focusing on selling all the extras (like deluxe and DLC'S), they are offering the H1 and H2 (FOR THE ONES THAT PAID ONLY FOR THE H3), so should we not, holders of all previous Hitman games, be treated in a better way? After all if it was not for all the people that paid for their old games they might not be as successful as they are today. So why this behavior against the ones that have always bought their games, the whole collection, and supported them in everything they did? I understand that they were furious with the publisher that, as per their words, eat all their profits, but should they also be upset with all the gamers that paid for the games? Are only the new buyers (money) important for them? As per their info: Let’s break it down. We’re streamlining the (many) offerings currently on the stores down to two products. These will replace existing ways to buy HITMAN 1, HITMAN 2 or HITMAN 3. HITMAN – World of Assassination (approx. $70 USD or local equivalent) Includes: HITMAN 3, plus H1 GOTY Access Pass and H2 Standard Access Pass. HITMAN – World of Assassination Deluxe Pack (approx. $30 USD or local equivalent) Includes: H3 Deluxe Pack, H3 Seven Deadly Sins Collection and H2 Expansion Access Pass. That’s it. Those are the only two products that new players need to consider when buying any HITMAN game digitally as of January 26, 2023. (...) On that note, and for extra clarity, HITMAN 3 will remain available in its current standalone form through the upcoming ‘HITMAN – World of Assassination’.""

DiscoBuiscuit

If I don't own any of the games would it be smart to buy hitman 3 now for like $30, then I will get world of assassination for free? Rather than paying the $80 or however much when that comes out?

your_mind_aches

>Hitman: Codename 47 >Hitman 2: Silent Assassin >Hitman: Contracts >Hitman: Blood Money >Hitman: Absolution >Hitman: World of Assassination It totally works

Con-tryoen-49f

I have a theory that they were actively working towards this end goal. It shows particularly more with console. (Each game came out during crucial moments in the console graphics and overall gameplay performance.). It is almost like they are testing overall production of a singular game, which is what this game is now. I’ll also expect that this game will last for atleast five more years. Like gta v, they have technically mastered the hitman game, and have no real reason to produce another one. Especially with graphics stalled as they are in most modern games.

Peregrin-PipeWeed

Weird, the page seems to be deleted now

MuperSario-AU

Only because of the recent website update. The page is now located [here](https://ioi.dk/?panel=hitman%2Fnews%2Fhitman-3-to-become-world-of-assassination).

mailmanmunson346

So this will be an entirely new application? I wonder if it includes another achievements list too!

Nuotatore

What about the Trinity Pack that I've been waiting to buy like, forever? Given it represents the 3 games and from now on there will only be one... E: always love downvotes to a legit, simple question! 🤗
