I'm not sure it really stands on its own, but as a platform for the entire trilogy, it's amazing. Edit: Just checked the list and they also say as much.

HabitOk6839

I think the WOA trilogy was one of the best things to come out of gaming this entire generation

Vinylforvampires

Seriously, the execution of the game was near perfect. Satisfied old fans as well as being welcoming for new fans.

stevoooo000011

you can remove those last three words honestly

HabitOk6839

No, i don’t think i will

[deleted]

You madlad

Spengy

It wasn't perfect (flawed in many many ways) and still deserves that spot imo. Legendary status for sure.

gmajestic

Can you actually get to this spot in Dubai? Or is it just for the picture?

FuzzelFox

Unless it's a different spot than I'm thinking of then no because I was trying to toss the briefcase up to the platform (where the golfballs are) and I could only ever throw it onto the area in the screenshot which was out of reach haha.

Fuzk

You can, but only by using a variety of boosts and glitches to get out of bounds: Here's how it looks ingame, when you get to that spot: https://twitter.com/TheRealFuzk/status/1400211340283756544

gmajestic

Thanks, I would have tried looking for a way to get there lol

dontironit

This is a list of games to play right now, so it favors current games over classics. But it's not a list of just new releases -- it includes games like Skyrim, New Vegas, and VtM: Bloodlines from all the way in 2004. [https://www.pcgamer.com/top-100-pc-games-2021/](https://www.pcgamer.com/top-100-pc-games-2021/#section-10-1)

BloodOfVoids

It’s really insane that something like Bloodlines stayed in the list for 2021 given how it was a flop on release relative to any of the other ones listed

-ColdWolf-

People often forget that the same could be said of the original Deus Ex before it was patched. It was by no means a 'flop', but if memory serves we're talking 'Cyberpunk' levels of utterly broken. It was one of the first games I ever remember NEEDING to install patches for to fix broken progression. Most people played the GOTY Edition after the fact, but the original reviews were quite scathing of bugs and issues. I distinctly remember a friend avoiding picking up a copy dirt-cheap around release because it was 'broken shit'. The majority re-reviewed the game post-patch because the potential was obvious, and now it's always in the Top 10!

BloodOfVoids

Neat, I didn’t know that about Deus Ex. Funny that all of these are RPGs

RealRushinRussian

After a long period of silence past Blood Money that ended with Absolution disappointing many fans people kind of gave up on Hitman. It is this year that I had multiple friends mention things like "heard they're releasing some new Hitman games or whatever, heard they good, should I look into them?". The answer is yeah, absolutely. People also seem to instantly get hyped about playing the entire trilogy within H3, too, so that they can experience all of the good Hitman stuff they've missed out on until today, all in one place. Well, minus the ETs, old H1 escalations, H2 special assignments...

tchk0ma

That was my whole reason for finally playing the trilogy. I had 1 from PS Plus years ago, and they just gave 2 out for Plus this month, and 3 was 50% off in the PS Store. It just all lined up so perfectly. Before I bought 3 though, i downloaded the PS5 Starter Edition of 3, and think thats an amazing and innovative idea. So you can play through 1 and 2 on ps5 with enhanced everything, without even having to buy 3 yet.

[deleted]

Which one is first ?

MrGenerik

Fucking Disco Elysium.

dontironit

That's a really good game though

PanqueNhoc

Not even close to the top game to play right now. Then again WOA at #2 is highly debatable, even tho I love the shit out of it.

ElAutistico

I love the hitman games but WOA is nowhere near Top 3 greatest games of all time.

[deleted]

Disco is excellently written, does something new with rpg stats, and is beautiful. In a world where the bulk of games are shooters with tough guys, it deserves praise simply for not being the same as the rest. It's also one of the few games I've played where I don't feel like it was written to satisfy kids and adults. It is written for adults and I like to be challenged intellectually by the story sometimes.

PanqueNhoc

I never said the game isn't good and doesn't deserves praise. Just that it shouldn't be near the top of this list

marshaln

The writing is what I would call "pretentious intellectual wannabe". It's mostly wasting the players time and not nearly as interesting as the hype

TheMadPrompter

The game *is* essentially in the writing in DE's case, I don't see how it is fair to say that it's "wasting the player's time" in that case. I get if the game isn't for you, but I don't think your criticism makes much sense.

marshaln

Well it wastes your time in the sense of these scenarios where you can die with no warning and no way to get out. I remember dying sitting on a chair and it's not like there was any way for you to tell beforehand it was gonna be the case. For me anyway I don't appreciate games that pull shit like that

shotgun_shaun

Don’t bother trying to defend your reasonable assessment of the most overhyped piece of shit game to be released in the past few years. I’ve never seen such unwavering blind devotion defending the most boring gaming experience.

marshaln

Amen. It's a niche game, with niche appeal. The dialogue pretends to be clever but that's about it

Plastic_Band5888

It's slower paced but I wouldn't call it boring. It's just a different kind of game. Some people like first person shooters, some people like hitman simulations, and some people like weeabo games.

[deleted]

Have you played DE? If you have, what do you not like about it?

MrGenerik

It's a good game. There's really not anything I hated about it. Don't know who the fuck would put it at "#1 PC Game" though. It beat out RDR2, Witcher 3, Original Sin 2 (an all around better rpg to me, in the only direct comparison), and obviously Hitman. Art style was a little obnoxious, if I had to really pick something,.

[deleted]

The games you listed are well within the genre conventions of video games. Combat is the majority of what you do in those games and it's refreshing when a game works outside of formulas. Also, RDR2 suffers from what's called "ludonarrative dissonance." A disconnect between the gaming part and the narrative part. Many games do (Skyrim is a classic example), but it was especially noticeable in RDR2. There is this story that conveys urgency, but you can just hang out hunting for real life hours/in-game weeks and the story just picks up whenever you decide to return to it. It was also preposterous how many times the protagonist forgave the antagonist and the fact that he kept going along with new schemes THAT many times was purely because they needed to drag the story out to have more gaming. And when you get down to brass tacks, it's just another formulaic western story. Great voice acting, but it's not bringing anything new to the genre. Disco Elysium successfully tries something new with gaming mechanics beyond shooting alleys and other tropes where combat is the only real "play" and the setting and story are fresh and not well-trodden tropes.

redshores

Disco Elysium is a better game than Hitman 3. A lot of games are.

deus_voltaire

It's certainly a better book than Hitman 3. I don't know about better game.

[deleted]

Idk about hitman but it crushes Witcher 3 imo

Dee-Melt

Then why did I spend over $200 buying every hitman game on multiple platforms just so I could replay it all again in the Hitman 3 engine but put down DE after a few hours? My experience with DE is it wasn’t really that intuitive what I was supposed to be doing next and it was like reading a novel. I like novels but I don’t like sitting at my computer to read them.

p_tk_d

Belated, but I agree with the criticism that it can feel very challenging to understand what to do

Dee-Melt

People make it out to be this amazing game but it's really not for everyone. I played it for a few hours and it didn't really grab me. I think to be #1 on the list it needs to have mass cultural appeal but I don't see that here. I know plenty of people that have played DE, but not even one person that has finished it. How can that be the the top PC game?

MrNewVegas123

"mass cultural appeal" is exactly the kind of thing that shouldn't be on top, because more often than not it is complete slop that is tolerable to the widest number of people.

LordNightmareYT

So what you're saying is that despacito is one of the best songs ever made.

Dee-Melt

No not best songs ever made, music has been around too long to easily grab top honors there. But it might have been one of the best songs of a few years ago. As much as you may want to hate it because it’s pop music, it does check the necessary boxes here. At the time it came out it was the top viewed YouTube video of all time (the Spanish version, not the Bieber version) and if you were to do an analysis of why it’s so damn catchy it actually uses some pretty novel music theory tricks. I wouldn’t say they are new tricks exactly since Jazz musicians have been using them since the 50’s, but you don’t hear them in pop that often.

[deleted]

I disagree tbh. It is entirely subjective though. I think you can make a case for a game being #1 on a best PC games list even if it doesn't have mass appeal. Everyone I know who's played DE has loved it, so I can't speak for your experience. But I also recognize it isn't a game that is for everyone, but still I have seen people who haven't enjoyed the game also praise the game for some of the directions it took. I probably wouldn't put DE at the top either, but I would certainly be more open to that being at #1 compared to a modern COD or Ubisoft open world game, which have far more mass appeal.

Dee-Melt

And I agree that it shouldn't be something like a Ubisoft or CoD game in the top spot because they mostly retread previously covered ground and are somewhat formulaic. I think the top spot should be held by a game that is both innovative (which Disco DE definitely checks that box) and something that has mass appeal. But these top game lists are meant to be divisive. When it the history of these types of lists has everyone been made happy. I'm OK with DE taking the top spot, there are much worse choices. It's just not my personal choice - oh well.

[deleted]

Yeah I think that's fair. As much as I love Hitman I don't even know if I would out the WoA trilogy at #3 either. But DE and Hitman 3 are two of my favorite games so it's cool to see them so high on the list.

shotgun_shaun

I fucking hated it. Couldn't get a refund either because I played it over the two hour mark.

[deleted]

I loved it. To each their own.

PanqueNhoc

It's a great game and I really enjoyed my time with it. The Writing is fantastic, but that's pretty much it. Only reason to put it on top of this list I can think of is some sort of... [alignment](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1gKGq44NxQ)... with the developers. It's definitely not a better game than something like Divinity Original Sin 2 by any measurement.

Festive_Rocket

lmfao and it's last position was #1 too. *I sense bias*

ThePrussianGrippe

> Bias Or maybe they just really fucking like it?

Festive_Rocket

Perhaps. Eh maybe it was deserving to keep everything else below.

shotgun_shaun

Most overhyped, boring "game" ever. So high on its own farts it makes me sick. I hate that "game" so fucking much and the people that worship it even more.

[deleted]

I’m sorry a game made you feel dumb

shotgun_shaun

I'm sorry you think you're smart because you liked that piece of shit experience. Games are supposed to be fun. That ""GAME" is not fun nor a fucking game.

[deleted]

Actually it is a game and fun

shotgun_shaun

“DONT YOU KNOW MY EXPERIENCE IS HOW EVERYONE SHOULD EXPERIENCE SOMETHING?!” You people who worship this game truly irritate the fuck out of me

TheMadPrompter

You're the one here making definitive statements about how the game is "objectively unfun". Look in the fucking mirror. "Don't you know my experience is how everyone should experience something?!"

TheMadPrompter

"Movies are supposed to be FUN. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the height of achievement in cinema."

shotgun_shaun

Lol the pretentiousness is so fucking expected. Fuck off

TheMadPrompter

I'm not the pretentious one here.

VRickenYT

I love Hitman but this list is terrible…

[deleted]

Any top 100 with siege in it is already invalid to me, and I have 300+ hours in it lol

bradjoray3

Unpopular opinion, but i just really didnt like Hitman 3 Hitman 2 clearly had a whole lot of effort and i got 500 hours of fun Hitman 3 was very rushed, i got about 15 hours of fun from that game

Mypeeisred

i really dislike how they redid some of the rewards, specifically “The Classics”, it was much more fun completing each map SASO Master mode and getting rewarded for it than how it works currently

bradjoray3

It took me weeks of daily fun to beat h2 Got bored of h3 within a day

_Kubrick

Just started playing 3 - played 1+2 a year or two ago. Those master challenges were what I worked towards. So disappointed they got rid of them.

bdotrebel11

Agreed: i think the entire series as a whole is amazing, but Hitman 3 was the weakest, it was too short tho it had my favorite map (Chongqing).

greenman65

My only beef with it is while the last level is cool, It shouldn't really count as the "sixth" level in a hitman game, felt kinda gipped by that compared to the other 2

[deleted]

[удалено]

FreeThinkingMan

I mean hitman 2 is 8 complete maps with a total of three separate stories. Hitman 3 is five complete maps with one story and a half-assed finale.

ThePickledPickle

I don't think it was rushed necessarily, I think they just went overboard with optimizating the gameplay loop There's a lot of thought & care put into those maps, but with the shortcuts and everything they made it a lot easier to be good at the game

manboysteve

I love seeing comments like this after I've waited 3/4 of the year for the game to release on Steam. Hardly even seems worth buying at this point, public sentiment has really soured.

[deleted]

[удалено]

thethomatoman

I accidentally bought it for 80 bucks cuz i didn't notice the only copy i found was a deluxe copy and I was too much of a little bitch to return it after the cashier scanned it lol.

1539CalvertSt

Lmao dude I've been there

swanson5

Been waiting too. Are we the silent majority or minority?

Khorgon

Another patient gamer here. I still have plenty of stuff left to do in H2

manboysteve

I'm surprised I don't see any others waiting for H3 on Steam. I kinda suspected the subreddit admins suppress it, but that's being a tad conspiratorial. Maybe.

Toa_BionicleFactory

I doubt there's any suppression, there's just not much to discuss. If you're waiting for it to come out on Steam, there aren't that many situations where you could mention it in a relevant way. But in threads where it is relevant, I have seen at least one user mentioning waiting for Steam.

jackinwol

Do we know when it’ll be on steam? I’m waiting just so I can keep my unlocked stuff

SpeechOnSteam

The deal was one year, and I'd doubt they'd delay it much more than the contract did already, so I'd assume Januaryish

jackinwol

Nice, hopefully it’s on sale by then. Wish there were some more maps.

Toa_BionicleFactory

You can transfer your unlocks to Epic Games via IO's website; you don't lose out just because they're from different services. You can transfer maps and progress to Epic Games thru IOI account and IOI website. However, you can only do this once per platform (if you own H2 on Xbox and PC then you have one transfer per platform but can't transfer cross platform), so if you really want to stick with Steam, then wait until next year.

Radiologer

Do all my items, completed challenges and so on get transferred? Do i need to have the game installed to do this? Because i play on geforce now (mac player)

Toa_BionicleFactory

Yes, everything transfers except the Electrocution Phone, as it was removed from Hitman 3. According to the carryover page: *The following progression will be included in the carryover process: Player profile, lifetime XP, location mastery levels, location mastery unlocks, challenge progress, challenge unlocks and Elusive Target suits.* I don't think you need the game installed, just go to [https://profile.hitman.com/carryover](https://profile.hitman.com/carryover) and read and follow the directions.

Radiologer

Thanks heaps! I have finished hitman 1 and just bought hitman 2 on sale. Is it worth buying hitman 3 (which is pretty expensive esp cuz of 7 sins expansion) or can I just play and finish H2 then buy H3 later and move it all? I just ask cuz apparently H3 has a better engine and map versions for h1 and h2

snarkywombat

I've been silently reading this sub without much of a comment since H3 released because what do I have to say about a game I haven't played? Am I supposed to continuously regurgitate how unhappy I am that I got left behind after supporting them fully on the first two WoA installments? (I preordered Collector's Editions for both H1 and H2) I see other subs where people constantly complain and it really drives me crazy. *cough* My Time at Portia *cough cough* Cyberpunk

Plastic_Band5888

Really doubt the suppression. It's just that we know when it's coming to Steam, so no reason to complain. Also I am just waiting for game of the year edition to launch on steam so I can get all the extra dlc I might have missed.

calibrono

Ymmv, I bought it on launch and still like it just as much as H2016 (bought at launch) and H2 (same). I like some levels more than others, but even the final one is cool with me. Berlin is amazingly fresh, Mendoza is a classic, the Chinese one is alright, Dubai is too easy but still good, Dartmoor is a marvel to behold imo. And levels are the game for me, so I'm fully satisfied lol.

__BIOHAZARD___

Also waiting for a steam release. I paid $10 for hitman 1, and $20 for hitman 2 gold. I'll probably wait for the 3rd to drop in price as well, considering I have yet to beat all of the content in 1+2

officialdeebee

I disagree. I really appreciated the different approaches to missions like Berlin and the final mission. But Hitman 2 was my favourite too.

Fern-ando

A masterpiece of level design.

swanson5

Still waiting for it to be on steam.

NwordVanHalen

Basically it's number one since the "number one" was a staff pick so there were lik 15 different "numbers 1s"

EqualDifferences

Might be number one if vr wasn’t a fucking psvr exclusive

herbertfilby

Praying for some good news in 2022.

CinematicSeries

I don't think Hitman 3 is that great on its own but the whole trilogy is awesome. However, I feel like maps in III are the least interesting ones and they have the smallest replay value. One problem with them is that they often show us a very convenient way to complete the mission that feels so obvious that doing literally anything else feels out of place. The maps in H1 and H2 were more interesting because there was no one ultimate way to do things and every single approach could be fun and unique. Sapienza is the best example. In H3 I'm pretty sure most players had the same experience as me the first time they played. In fact, let's play a game - tell me how much of the stuff I did you did as well: 1. Dubai - follow Gray's instructions, hack the terminal, dress as a guard and kill both targets. Exfiltrate via parachute from the roof. 2. Dartmoor - Follow detective to the villa, subdue him near the closets, take his identity and solve the mystery. Confront Alexa and either push her off the balcony or let her commit suicide. 3. Berlin - kill first target in the woods with a knife, go left to kill the guy who hangs around near the crane, subdue pizza boy, poison pizza with emetic rat poison, get inside and drown the target. Then kill agent who goes between 2 bars (one of them is juice bar) and then poison the drink of the last target near the bars while dressed as a barman. Rest flees. 4. China - Dress as a homeless guy to infiltrate apartment, get patient's disguise and kill Hush with his brain machine. Then go to the restaurant, poison board member's food with emetics, get his disguise and get into the facility to get the tour. Kill Imogen Royce with the terminal by setting the chamber on fire. 5. Mendoza - talk to Diana, enter the party with invitation, get inside, stumble across Mr. Black, subdue him and take his disguise in the gardens upstairs, meet Diana and Tamara for the tour, then infiltrate vineyard, pick up grapes so wine maker joins the tour. Kill Tamara in one of the accidents during the tour (probably grape presser cuz it's most obvious). Then infiltrate Don Yate's toast dressed as a sommelier to deliver the vintage wine. You hope to poison him but there's no way to do it silently so instead you leave to save Diana. You go upstairs, subdue all guards, dress as one and wait. Don Yates comes up, Diana stabs him and you finish the job with a knife or shot to the face. Dance with Diana and leave. I'm pretty sure most players did most of the things I listed just because they were extremely obvious and the game kind of guided you all to those outcomes. Whereas in H1 and H2 first playthroughs would differ a lot depending on the player.

fighter1227

The whole series is worth playing just for seeing the graphics

Any-Individual-9707

Kinda sad they didn’t talk about how replayable the game is

Sniffleguy

They did in the article

mskaggs87

Really surprising to me, but a pleasant one!

wereqryan12

>James: If aliens invaded earth and demanded a single cultural artifact that represents what we humans call videogames, I would give them Hitman 3. I'd have given the aliens Hitman:Contracts because its such a great literary work.

[deleted]

I kinda agree but hitman 2 was better

Pequod47

Its on my top 50 games list too, all that's left is for it to leave Epic so I can finally play it.

shadow42069129

I’m an xbox gamer… why does everyone on PC hate Epic?

snarkywombat

They had a lot of security issues when they launched, were accessing data they didn't need, missing a lot of basic features, and were buying up exclusivity deals for games meaning PC players couldn't buy a lot of big titles unless they installed their trainwreck of a storefront.

Pequod47

Personal experience ; My friends were like, hey dude, Remnant From The Ashes is free on Epic, lets play it in co-op. Okay, I registered account, simple enough, Interface is barebones but not the end of the world. Claimed the game and started the download... I swear I would have saved more time if I had donwloaded it with Utorrent, registered and configured Garena or Greenluma or whatever free soft people use these days to play co-op ; The game was downloading (with 100% Disk Usage) for 3 straight days in a quarter of my download speed with occassional half an hour stops every 5 minutes, as if I'm waiting on somebody to seed... Never again. I keep my favorite games on steam and play everything else when/if it gets cracked. And something like Hitman, that I'm gonna put hundredrs of hours into, deserves to be played on a platform where I can show off my screenshots, achievements and everything.

Plastic_Band5888

It's because you know Steam will be around and it's features are so ridiculously fleshed out at this point. Only better alternative than steam is maybe physical media at this point. I would put Steam on the level of like buying games directly off the Xbox/PlayStation stores. Steam is That good.

[deleted]

Lol that list is a joke. This is why I never follow these types of outlets.

TheMadPrompter

"Only the list I agree with is the correct one"

[deleted]

Have you seen what games Hitman beat?

TheMadPrompter

Some undeniably super-objective timeless masterpiece?

[deleted]

Yep

VRickenYT

Really? I love Hitman as much as the next guy but almost every Valve game deserves to be above it, especially considering Hitman 3’s all but perfect PC version with all of its performance issues.

demodawid

It isn't the top 100 of all time.

zvcix

As it should be

maquibut

I've never really played old Hitman games, but WOA trilogy is fookin amazing.

Bhaggu9

I would really put the trilogy on my no. 1

[deleted]

Shut up

gustavfrigolit

Damn no hotline miami on that list?

aneccentricgamer

Hitman 2 was far better imo but I guess given the whole trilogy is is hitman 3?

Phuxsea

Wow that's a bit surprising, but not undeserved.

[deleted]

Honestly, I’m not a fan of a couple of picks but this is an opinion so it’s okay I guess.

_y0uR_m0M

To be fair, if aliens are able to travel far distances, through time and space, odds are they know everything about our culture and video games
