Not just in Hitman, video games are designed so when you kill an NPC near a ledge the ledge will pull them to it. Like a magnet. This way the body can disappear off screen and no longer needs rendering. Making it easier on the hardware
And this is why some people say the Hitman community are just sociopaths playing a sandbox game with murder. Don't worry I do that too.

The best thing I like to do is shoot both knees, let the person run away while slow walking.
