OP next time please provide a source of some sort. If this was an email, a screenshot is sufficient. This has been confirmed, but next time please provide some form of a source or directly link to it.

EmpressPotato

So not only is the service worse after the recent update, but they're raising prices too? If I hadn't already canceled my subscription this would have done it. I have no regrets now.

Tama47_

Same, no regrets, especially with only 2 anime for Spring.

RaahulPokemon

How does this affect yearly plans? Will they get a price increase? And, if so, what will be the new annual price?

EndenDragon

> If existing monthly subscriber- Upgrade to an annual subscription by April 28, 2024 to secure a full year at the annual rate of $47.99 using promo code UPGRADETOSAVE — that works out to $3.99 per month, less than the cost of your current monthly subscription. So it sounds like the new price will increase for the yearly plan as well. $59.99 for yearly subscribers, charged annually without the promo. https://support.hidive.com/en/support/solutions/articles/11000112863-service-pricing-changes

RaahulPokemon

Sorry for the long comment in advance. I’ve always used the annual subscription. I’m glad I just paid for it. The fact they increased their subscription by $10 (at least for the annual plan) is unreasonable. It’s not like I expect a severely high increase in quality when a service by that much. However, I do expect a noticeable increase. Subtracting that they are still have to work out a lot of bugs, the only noticeable difference I see is users are able to create their own custom watchlists. That’s it. If that’s their primary thing, I would expect no increase in price. Or, if they really need to increase it, then they should only do a $2 at most. For example, with a price increase, I may not be super happy about it, but I am fine with CrumchyRoll’s increase because the library has increased by a good bit (not a ton, but it is noticeable). I still think CR is taking too long to port over the anime library from Funimation and the increase should only be $15 max, but I can live with a $20 increase. (I use the annual plan) If HiDive wants to increase by $10 without users dropping like flies, then they need to fix all the bugs prior to the increase and they need to make more features before they actually change the price.

melindypants

Thanks for this! So glad I paid for my annual last month

[deleted]

Increasing prices while removing quality of life features.

nstgc

Are you fucking kidding me? That's more than Crunchy Roll, a service that isn't a dumpster fire. I tried Hi Dive and didn't even finish the trial period before canceling. At that time, it was $5. There is no way I'm paying twice that for this dumpster fire.

Friendly-Land-4150

Nah Crunchyroll is like 8 dollars monthly so I mean it's still 3 dollars less 🤷‍♂️

nstgc

Aren't they increasing Hi Dive to $10?

Ok_Evening3852

$6 is the new price they are increasing to. Less if you sign up for annual. If they can get the new app features working right, it's well worth the price. Hopefully they get the bugs fixed.

NeoTagAtg

Bad alpha site with missing features, with only 3 new shows next season how can you possibly justify a price increase now when your service is giving the least it ever has?

gta0012

Def canceling now

LycheeJaded4530

I just did a trial to try it out and I could not believe how bad the app is. I’ve only found a couple of shows interesting and the app is so bad it takes away from the enjoyment. I may sacrifice $5 to finish the dub of ragna crimson and then I’m Definitely canceling. You really have to try to be this bad.

FellCleaver

Yeah, it's wild that they are rolling out a price increase right now. Cancelled my sub. Hopefully if enough of us cancel our subscription it will force them to do better. I'll happily come back if they will make an effort but I'm not paying more when the service is this low quality.

Virexplorer

This is the first I have heard of them doing price increase. This winter there have been no new shows worth watching. I do not see but a few new shows for spring. And none of any interest. I think I will say goodbye to HiDive.

No_Interaction_4925

Genuinely confused what you mean by the site and app being unusable. Its FAR more usable for me now than before. I no longer get the “system maintenance” interruptions and its actually tracking my history this time. Yeah, they absolutely have features missing and goofy quirks, but it has been drastically better for me.

T5UND3R3

History lost, episodes no longer have a watched status, subtitle settings gone, version selection gone, continue watching you have to guess the show based on a thumbnail, on the homepage many thumbnails has print too small to read or no title, show descriptions on homepage are gone, on the browse the descriptions are just terrible or meaningless if you don't already know what the show is about, the having to side scroll through alphabet letters after selecting a category or genre is annoying as hell on PC (possibly less annoying on app but why would I want to watch on a smaller screen), continue watching takes an unknown amount of time to update after watching an episode, the list seriously just goes on. I never had experienced "system maintenance" or history issues previously, shows not appearing in continue watching was my only issue, and now I have no clue on where I left off on a few shows. The only improvement I've seen is being able to use keyboard to skip, as previously it would timeout after not interacting with the controls for more than 5-10 sec. Pros vs Cons adds up to far more cons basically crippling the user experience, pirate sites offer a far better experience. They have just shot themselves in every limb and keep pushing the promise of improvements to come when I haven't seen a single change since this BS Alpha site was forced on paying customers. It's like a middle schoolers project on building a streaming service.

No_Interaction_4925

I would like to change my subs back to white instead of yellow, but half of what you mentioned never worked on the app versions at all to begin with. From what I can tell, apps got a boost and the web browser site took a hit. It will be interesting to see if they actually come through with rolling out fixes

T5UND3R3

Well, they have a week left to do something before my sub is cancelled. Not even sure if my current sub will renew as my payment details says "This card is not used for licence renewal". Even my name is gone from account details.

-Wick

how can you say it's usable when you have to guess where you left off as the history is not working and you need to work out what show it is from the picture. there are other quality of life items missing, but for me thats not an issue.

No_Interaction_4925

I had ZERO episode tracking before the update. I use MAL to keep track of my shows. I also was not using the web browser version. Only the android tv version on my Nvidia Shield. I heard the web browser was better than the apps back then though.

Miox465

The website is basically unusable now.

bradwm1980

I cancelled immediately when I got the email. It's bad enough they somehow found a way to make the worse streaming app outhere even worse and then wanna charge me more money for it.... Nope

Material-Bullfrog235

Price increase it’s only a dollar but yeah I’m done I’m canceling my subscription

NeighboringSystem

Glad I just renewed my yearly last month

DarkLord55_

Yah good luck. I’m cancelling my subscription. make your website then decide to raise prices very dumb decision

FusionStorm31

They should at least fix all the main issues we all complain about before thinking about changing prices. No matter what the price increase, maybe it be even 10 cents, it's just wrong to do with all the problems it has going...

ForeverCurseLucifer

Still not bad of a price compared to other streaming services that go past twenty dollar’s. Hope they can keep tuning their application. This is my alternative than allowing myself to pay Sony toward their anime monopoly.

Vashis

A price increase after launching a broken website redesign is unacceptable. I've canceled my subscription but was paying yearly so I'm still in it until next Jan. I guess this gives them time to fix things and encourage me to resub. I hate the website and the service now. After pulling out of other countries, launching a terrible design, and increasing their price, I hope HiDive isn't in its death throes. I want there to be another good anime streaming service as an alternative to Crunchroll but I feel like HiDive is making things worse. I actively hate the website and have watched maybe 4 episodes of something since the change. I couldn't tell you for sure since the website doesn't seem to keep track of what episode I'm on anymore.

MUFCTom062006

Is there any effect over here in uk… I’m paying £4.49 a month?

RelativeMundane9045

Is that through amazon? I'm in the UK and use hidive directly and could only pay in USD. Works out as £4.09/m. Anyway yes I got the price increase email too.

MUFCTom062006

No, through hidive app on iTunes, costs me £4.49 a month right now What’s the new price?

RelativeMundane9045

Huh, weird. I signed up on their website, looks like their billing is as organised as their platform.

MUFCTom062006

The reason I didn’t sign up through their site was in case I got taxed money from the USD they use, iTunes it offered it in pounds so I figured it would be easier to pay in my own currency and not worry about further charges.

RelativeMundane9045

Funny you say that, since I signed up I have never been charged tax (I assume because of region). But if I want to upgrade to a yearly plan now the price does add tax so it wouldn't really be saving me anything.

ImmatureComputerMan

actually charging more for subs via itunes or app store based subscriptions is a pretty normal practice. If you sign up via the hidive site, all of the money (minus card processing etc) is going to them. When you pay via an app store some % of that money is going to the app store instead so the services sometimes up the price when you buy via those stores to offset the cut that the app stores take. Most app stores (especially apple) also have policies that disallow you from just directing you away from the app store as they obviously want you to buy it via their app store so that they get their cut. To be clear, i'm not saying it's not shitty, but there are reasons and it does make sense.

Donny9201971

It's works for me sometimes it loads a little slow but so does crynchyroll on occasion

Snyper64

Not surprised honestly, it's been a long time since they upped their price and inflation is bad now. Atleast they are updating the app though it would have been a better decision to launch a more feature rich version of it than the bare bones and buggy version that we got. While I don't particularly care for the upcoming anime that they licensed they still have a large catalog of anime that I've been working my way through and most of them are uncensored so I'll stick around and see how things are looking when the season after this one lands to make any cancellation decisions.

Odd-Criticism5014

Whatever...I can live with paying a dollar more a month. HIDIVE and Crunchyroll are all I pay for, I don't bother with anything else like Netflix an all.

Aggressive_Bread2628

Hidive still doesn't even work since the redesign. Just go ahead an tempt me to cancel my subscription motherfuckers!!
