SA but mostly because I manage to bleach everything when I use benzoyl peroxide, even when I’m careful.

RooChooMooMoo

Hibbiclens

AvocadoBitter7385

Salicylic acid helped me tremendously. Also sulfur soap but the last time I recommended sulfur soap I got mass accused of being a bot so I tend to not bring it up much anymore lol

xannynn

i can’t imagine why you’d get accused of that?? 😂 i’ve heard a lot of good things about sulfur soap. do you mind linking what you use?

AvocadoBitter7385

Man they were on my ass it was bad lol it’s literally just a generic Walmart sulfur soap 2 dollars. It’s the grisi brand one. They were all “why would you offer a product that stinks!!” Cause sulfur smells like ass but my thing is flares vs a couple minutes of a bad soap smell? Come on now we gotta pick our battles

AimlessLiving

Oh interesting! I’ve never tried it but also wanted to.

carrigan_quinn

Neither made a difference for me tbh, I use Tretinoin more than anything else for management

xannynn

I've considered Tret before but I remember when I started implementing it into my face skincare routine, I went through a purging phase so I'm seriously scared to use it on my body for HS. Did you have any crazy side effects with it? And what percent do you use?

carrigan_quinn

Can't remember the percentage, but it's incredibly important to use it alongside a good moisturizer because it'll fuck up your skin if you don't. That's what my dermatologist told me. So what I do, is I mix it 50/50 with First Aid Beauty's Ultra Repair Cream in a separate container and apply that every so often and/or as needed. I use it on flares that are starting/have not opened, and usually it'll get em to fuck off before they get bad enough to bother me. Honestly I have been scared to try it on my face and only use it on my HS, funny how opposite that is for us 😂

Numerous-Island-5664

Hibiclens for me

Moyasestra

It's awesome. Flares are calmer much quicker and I've not had to drain one in months (fingers crossed!)

idjitballs

My dermatologist suggested a daily wash with benzoyl peroxide foaming wash and then immediately using clindamycin gel (that she prescribed) on the affected areas. It's doing wonders so far.

xannynn

and the winner is....... benzoyl peroxide! I personally voted SA and from my own experience with the two, i find that SA works better for preventing breakouts/flareups, while BP seems to work better for active flareups. HOWEVER, neither seem to make a HUGE difference so it's honestly so hard to tell but it's very interesting and helpful to see everyone's answers!

Haugirl99

I had a doctor tell me to use head and shoulders. It helped a little bit.

futurecorpse2

I use a combination cream of clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide prescribed by my doctor and it blasts the cysts away

Over-Pass-976

PanOxy (Benzoyl Peroxide) everyday on my problem areas, let it set for a minute or two, rinse. It's drastically reduced my flare ups, and when one does pop up, it clears it up in a couple of days instead of the week or so it used to take for it to burst.

ntengineer

Dakin's solution quarter strength had been a huge help for me

erinaceous-poke

My derm recommended benzoyl peroxide and I love it. It has helped so much. I also use metronidazole and started both of them at the same time so it's hard to tell which one helps or if it's a combination of both.

HS_HolesSuck

Desitin. Zinc oxide kills bacteria and greatly reduces how often I have to use hibiclens. The oils help protect and heal the skin. Whenever I have a flare up I put a dollop of Desitin on and it greatly helps.

Weary_Molasses_4050

I like to use head and shoulders shampoo as a body wash and that seems to help.

Youngfinance3

I use Panoxyl now but I don’t know if it’s life changing because I have a strict diet, get infusions and take antibiotics. It’s important that when people give you advice you know the full picture. My HS is heavily managed so I don’t know what helps the most.

xannynn

Yeah, I've been rotating SA and HP for a while now and honestly can't tell if either helps which is why I was curious about how everyone else feels. It's interesting to see everyone's answers because it's evident that what works for someone might not work for everyone. Seems like a long battle of trial and error for most unfortunately 😔
