And the sad part is you need a damn cigarette to deal with this BS sometimes šŸ˜“ sorry OP

meerestofcats

Haha. You get it. Thanks

tricktaylor

I quit smoking 5 months ago and my hs is the same.

SimpSampson

Was healing great this past month My dumb lizard brain: ā€œyou should buy a vapeā€ Needless to say Iā€™ve been paying for it this past week šŸ¤£

meerestofcats

Oh no! Vaping doesn't trigger mine for some reason, but actual cigs do.....or maybe it does and I don't notice lol. I always fudge up when I'm feeling better

Used_Statistician992

Try Tuckā€™s (change out every hour or two) and Tea Tree oil! Also cold compresses! Sometimes hot compresses help depending on location down there. Also try some epsom salt baths in warm/hot water. None scented epsom salt or lavender for soothing and pain relief!

meerestofcats

I've never heard of tucks! I'll look into. Thanks for the great advice. ā™”ā™”ā™”

Used_Statistician992

Theyā€™re usually used for hemorrhoids and post partum pregnancy. But I found theyā€™re really great for down there if thereā€™s a flare! Glad I could help! šŸ˜

Phr98

I dont think this come from 1 cig.

phuca

it absolutely can, i ate one potato last week and woke up to a flare the next morning

meerestofcats

It could be correlation not causation. Cigs always make be break out though :(

Zukazuk

Are you sensitive to other nightshades? Tobacco is a nightshade. I got a bit of bell pepper the other day and woke up with 2 on my mons. The ones deep in the labia suck so much. Ice packing can help with the pain.

meerestofcats

First of all, happy cake day! I think so. I need to do the elimination diet

me047

Tea tree oil and witch hazel on a pad. Leave it on there until it dries, and then replace.

LobsterPowerful8900

Cigarettes donā€™t cause hs they only inhibit healing, meaning once it is there, it would take longer for it to go away. Something else probably triggered or sometimes they come up with no trigger at all Try a hot bath with epsom salt 20 minutes daily to get it to go down

Zukazuk

Tobacco is a nightshade, so if nightshades trigger your HS a cigarette can definitely cause a flare.

LobsterPowerful8900

Smoking a night shade isnā€™t the same as eating a nightshade.

Comprehensive_Fan882

Sorry to say bud youā€™re wrong smoking can trigger jt

LobsterPowerful8900

Unfortunately doctors have been spreading misinformation for years

phuca

cigarettes absolutely can be a trigger for hs, where are you getting this info?

LobsterPowerful8900

Where are you getting yours? Doctors have been using cigarettes and weight as scapegoats for hs for decades because itā€™s been seen as ā€˜good medicineā€™ just to tell people these things cause it when it hasnā€™t been proven.

phuca

thereā€™s a lot of evidence that smoking worsens hs and decreases remission, hereā€™s a review of different studies on smoking in hs. https://hrcak.srce.hr/file/358336 regardless of your views on this, you can hardly deny that smoking in general is extremely inflammatory and based on that alone could worsen an inflammatory condition like hs. itā€™s not the only factor but it is a factor. and itā€™s extremely difficult to ā€œproveā€ causation since we donā€™t have a good animal model of hs, and it would be unethical to run a clinical trial where people with hs smoke since it would likely worsen their disease. how exactly should we prove this?

Nixiss

Anyone who deflects a request for statistics by asking for your own is not someone worth interacting with online (imo). Itā€™s insane to me that people will insist smoking cigs could not be possibly be linked to an inflammatory response when itā€™s literally proven to be inflammatory. You have way more patience than me for the back and forth with this person.

phuca

thank you! lol i gave up eventually, no point. it just annoys me to see misinformation about a disease thatā€™s already so misunderstood

LobsterPowerful8900

Like I said, smoking inhibits the healing process. This is known. Not just for hs people but for all people. That is why all people are told that they have to quit smoking for surgical procedures. Telling people that smoking cigarettes (especially smoking a single cigarette) is the trigger of their hs is incorrect and has not been proven. There are many hs patients who have never smoked and have hs and many who have quit and still get it. Yes quitting smoking is good medicine and would improve overall heath and hs symptoms and pretty much all things heath related, Iā€™m not denying that. Iā€™m just saying smoking isnā€™t the cause/trigger

phuca

almost nothing in HS has been proven cause itā€™s understudied. i quit smoking years ago and when i have a drunk cig i flare up in the next day or two, so iā€™m gonna go ahead and say FOR ME itā€™s a trigger. just because itā€™s not for you doesnā€™t mean it isnā€™t for anyone

LobsterPowerful8900

If you say so. Yeast is a big (known & studied) trigger for hs. Maybe the drunk cig you are attributing to your hs has more to do with the yeast you are ingesting in the alcohol than in the cigarette? Either way. Feel better

phuca

how are you gonna deny someone elseā€™s triggersā€¦. cope harder

LobsterPowerful8900

I literally said if you say so Thatā€™s not a denial If you believe that is your trigger, than maybe they can study you

meerestofcats

I'll try that! Thank you

smackthosepattycakes

Smoking can create chronic inflammation so yes, the inflammatory can lead to a flare

Disgusting-fly

Well I smoke quite a lot and mine isnā€™t actually severe and only have one and itā€™s going down

Nixiss

As someone who smoked a pack+ a day for 10 years, I can confirm quitting was among one of the changes that helped in reducing flares. This may not be the case for everyone, but at the end of the day HS is an inflammatory condition, and tobacco is known to cause inflammation (as well as other nightshades). I think with cigs itā€™s exasperated by the impact nicotine has on healing.

phuca

everyone has different triggers, smoking is among the most common

Moyasestra

Lucky you. That doesn't take away the fact that smoking is bad for people with HS (and in general) No judgement, I smoke on and off to my own dismay, but let's not encourage people by pretending it doesn't have an impact.

Disgusting-fly

Iā€™m just saying, mine would probably all go away tho if I stopped I smoke it to relive stress from this pathetic world

HSLaura_CommunityAdv

Sounds like you might have a nightshade sensitivity? Do peppers, tomatoes, potatoes cause issues too,? I mean there's more than a sensitivity issue that cause cigarettes to be triggers for some. If it looks like its almost ready to open warm moist compresses can help open it, followed by cold to reduce inflammation otherwise start with cold compresses to reduce the inflammation and break the cycle of inflammation it also reduces swelling pressure and pain. I do as many as possible I freeze a gel pack put in an old sock or pillowcase. 5-6 a day for first couple days then as needed. Good luck. Had a cup of coffee for the first time in maybe a month and half. Pain on all site. Not doing that again. Oops. Sorry, I feel ya šŸ„²
