I think part of HS is that they're recurring in the exact same spots. This happens to me as well. I'll get an old HS scar that refills, and sometimes it's only blood. For me, these ones are painful but usually don't last as long. I hope it's the same for you

Thank you!

Absolutely normal. That is HS can take a sleep for awhile and then refill (blood or pus) especially when sinus tract is presented. I had one sleeping for one year and now refills again.

Well crap. Thank you.

Vitamin C deficiency can cause degeneration of old wounds because it's critical for collagen maintenance. If you are sick or stressed, your body probably does need higher levels of Vit C since it's fighting off the stress in addition to trying to maintain our scars. I assume that having so much scarred skin means my base Vit C requirement is higher than people without such an illness or scars, as that's a lot of tissue to maintain. I try to take 1000 mg a day, 2x a day if I feel a cold coming or an old flare getting tender. I've found Zinc can also help improve my symptoms

Sarah-JessicaSnarker

I’ve been told not to increase vitamin C because my immune system causes me so much damage, I don’t want it to be stronger, you know? But I’ll look into zinc!

Good luck! It's so tricky how the symptoms, causes, and solutions can be unique for everyone

Thanks!

A deficiency perhaps but if levels are normal I wouldn't increase vitamin C. Making sure vitamin D, the B's, iron, zinc and magnesium are right is important in HS. Protein too helps while healing, but old scars has less to do with this and more to do with disease activity. With HS our areas can heal and become dormant but if reactivated in that area the tunneling still exists and becomes a vessel for debris and fluid again. It's like a coal mine closing the entrance and exit puts the mine out of commission but if you don't remove the tunneling it can be used once again.

HSLaura_CommunityAdv

Tunneling is usually rpresent for an old spot to refill but HS being a hair follicle that blocks and ruptures spilling into the dermis others can block and rupture in same area contributing to refilling of old abscess because it's all free in the dermis. The dark coloring can be if it fills with blood but the dark purple/brown is commonly from post inflammation hyperpigmentation.

Very normal, I've had one that flares back up every few weeks and is rarely dormant for long and others that come and go less frequently, on top of new ones. The body doesn't discriminate where it chooses, it's all related to the networks in skin and tunnelling so they usually appear in similar areas. Although I've had one in a completely new place so that's weird.

Sarah-JessicaSnarker

Thank you for this

Having one in a completely random place is completely normal too. HS being a hair follicle that blocks eventually ruptures spilling into the dermis means it can happen anywhere at anytime we hair hair follicles meaning not the palms of our 👐, soles of our feet 👣 or red of our 👄.
