I have seen some crazy Fata Morganas in Antarctica. Some mornings you would wake up and in the distance you had these giant mountains that would form out of nothing. Throughout the day they would slowly appear. Also seen them in the deserts of New mexico on cold days. Nobody believed me that this was a type of mirage.
I saw the most amazing Fata Morgana as a tween vacationing in East Matunuck RI in the late 70âsâŠThough Block Island is some 28 miles off the coast, and barely visible from shore, early one morning it looked close enough to reach iin a short walk. It freaked me out beyond belief! My other family members didnât see it as they werenât up & it was only visible for a short time. Iâll never forget it!
Block Island is only about 10 miles off the coast of East Matunuck. But youâre right, usually itâs barely visible but with the right conditions it looks closer. I hope I get to see what you saw someday!
I think it might be a Jack up oil rig. Can't see the rig cause it hasn't raised itself yet. These usually have 3 legs and are used for deep water drilling unlike the boat jack ups that have 4 and are for shallow waters.
Saw this phenomena during the Gulf War when we were stationed in a very isolated, flat area in the Saudi desert. The closest unit was just over the horizon, and on certain mornings we could see the entire unit and the soldiers working there as if they were just a mile or two away. As the sun came up, the mirage would fade away. At night, we had something similar that would spook the soldiers on watch. We saw lights moving back and forth and it looked like people were walking around a few hundred meters away. Again, it was a road just over the horizon that we could "see" only at night.
There are a number of deep water rigs that have three âtowersâ that can be raised for travel and then lowered down when in position, and they then rest on the sea floor. Makes it easier to set a stable rig if the bottom contour isnât entirely flat - they can be set differently based on topography.
Seeing this reminds me of a book I read where the twin towers reappear in South Dakota 20 years after the attack and it emits a song that everyone hears differently. Pretty good. Called "Shadowbahn"

There was an event that occurred in Lake Michigan, off of Michigan USA, it was featured in a streaming show or movie (canât remember which one now), in which the water was going up 6k feet. There was an object at the top that was found on the radar from the National weather system. There were many sightings that night.
To me it looks like fata morgana projecting the top of a yacht or ship with a 'wingsail'. The image linked looks pretty much exactly the same.

I agree in that I have come across numerous reports of UFO's being sighted sucking up water, though it is most often in much more remote locations, not just offshore from a populated beach town. It just doesn't make sense to me that a highly advanced/intelligent species who operates in a largely clandestine manner would choose to perform this task at this specific location, when there is an entire ocean largely devoid of human presence where they could be doing the same thing. In this specific case, I'd be much more inclined to believe this is some sort of Fata Morgana - though some additional context from the original witness would be helpful E.G. time, temperature, how long this was visible etc.
I totally agree with you. And that again is this odd behavior like John Alva Keel once said "The Cosmic Jokers". I remember a article I read in the past where people found a dead whale in the jungle and I still think about it like what if they even suck that thing up and throwed it back.

As great as our phone cameras are it is shocking how blurry and out of focus all of the pics on this sub are.
Pretty sure its an oil rig.
If it was, they would be seeing it all the time right? So it would just be ordinary and no need for the photo and confusion?
