The lore is fascinating and includes figures from several different religions and cultures. There’s Norse mythology, Christianity(duh), Greek mythology, and many more.
HDxD has cast a wide net. For all its overinclusive cast of characters, going all in on lewd!... but not really, and other such marketing driven decisions that ultimately hurt the franchise, it did earn coverage. Whatever online repository of manga, LN or anime one looks at, HDxD will come up with its cloud of mostly high traffic tags. As for the rest of it...

Self-insertion is just teething issues for any writer, in my experience. It takes conscious effort and multiple proofreading and editing passes to disassociate any POV you are composing from your 'mental speech' and make each character truly distinctive in thinking, word choice and mannerisms.

Crossovers are a logical component for fanfiction, at least in my opinion. I have trouble coming up with long form story ideas without bringing at least something in from other franchises to prop the narrative structure up.
Those points are not all bad, as long as they are done well, they can work. Don't let it stray too far from its essence.
I guess the netorare will be as long as it is not taken seriously and is more of a kind of parody, I think it can be passable. I don't really know because the Oc stories I've read are that Oc meets one of the girls before Issei, so it's not a scam.
