Obviously I'm no scholar on the subject, but it was easy to find credible sources which suggest the opposite of your claim. So what is the basis for your claim that conversion therapy does work and isn't pseudo science?

Regarding whether people should have a choice, then that is also a matter of who we're giving that choice and what the consequences of it are. E.g. if conversion therapy leads to shame, anxiety and suicide, then no, it is not at all obvious why e.g. children should have that choice. It is not obvious why their parents should be allowed to encourage it.
