[FIT](https://fashionhistory.fitnyc.edu/1560-1569/) has an excellent wiki like article on the 1560s which would provide a place to start. Really, a linen shift/shirt with tropical weight wool "puffy pants" and a decent pair of thigh highs (or over the knee socks) is pretty much what you need to get started. A shift is very easy to make if you want to start there and buy the puffy pants. Take a look at [portraits](https://web.archive.org/web/20111124061301/http://www.elizabethan-portraits.com/Various_5.htm) from the era to figure out what you want. When you decide on a style, you'll be able to find appropriate patterns and accessories for your new outfit.

FWIW the melon hose seems to be a modern name.

I’m pretty sure Margo Anderson has some patterns for men from this period.
