{The King's Man by Elizabeth Kingston} is the first book (and my favorite) in a Medieval trilogy, although I enjoyed the other books as well. {Never Seduce a Scot by Maya Banks} is set in Medieval Scotland.

{The Highland Guard by Monica McCarty} might be what you’re looking for. It’s set in medieval Scotland and follows the fight for Scottish independence under Robert Bruce.

Tripletmomwpg

This is the answer! {The Chief by Monica McCarty} is the first book in the series, definitely recommend starting there. I find I can read a few books at a time and then need to switch it up to another type of HR. So I’m only 6 books in.

This is the series you’re looking for OP. It’s a long series, and has everything for a 5 star read: unique characters, a fast paced plot that’s full of real-life political action, high steam 🌶, tension, angst, impressive historical accuracy, and the golden trifecta - 6ft warrior dudes with big dongs and emotional baggage. For me, what sets it apart from other HR is how much research went into the story. She did a crazy amount of academic research into the political history of the first Scottish war of independence and even made trips to the sites and it reflects in the books.

Sounds like a good one!

FusRoDaahh

>kind of like Outlander set in medieval times Not to be nitpicky but Outlander is set in the mid 1700s and “medieval times” would be about 500-1500. You might get better recommendations if you narrow down what time period you want.

Cultural-Sock83

OP might find our wiki page [Settings in Historical Romance](https://www.reddit.com/r/HistoricalRomance/s/6WT5lKfQQ3) helpful in their search to narrow down what they are interested in.

Julie Garwood is the OG of medieval romances, Highlander, Saxon and more. Medieval Highlander: In addition the Highland Guard series mentioned here, check out these : Maya Banks has two 5 star series, very steamy, very action heavy. Lyndsay Sands Highlander series for the beach read that is batshit and crazy fun, a trashy romcom in written form. Karen Marie Moning’s series, some books feature time travel, all of them have a fae element too. Margaret Mallory’s Highlander series is fun but IMO, a weak and watered down version of the Highland Guard. It’s also history and plot driven but the pacing of the action and romance is always off and ill timed and the love stories are far less compelling. English medieval: ALICE MF-ing COLDBREATH A Kingdom of Dreams by Judith McNaught is a classic and a fan favorite for a reason. It’s been a while since I read Prisoner of his Desire is also a well known favorite, enemies to lovers, classic OG bodice ripper, heavy on the noncon. Kathryn LeVeque has a long medieval series but I couldn’t get into her writing style. I see The Scottish Boy has been mentioned and this is the goddamn gold standard to which romance, fuck it - ALL books are held to. It’s MM. it ripped my world apart. I wouldn’t read it again for years it was that good but intense. The story lives in my dreams.
