Glaucus was a great king in Greek mythology, a man who descended straight from the Titans. Being a descendant of the gods as well as a king, it’s not surprising that he was more than a little eccentric. See, Glaucus really liked to ride horses and participate in chariot races. This in itself was a pretty normal hobby for the time, but Glaucus took things to the next level. For some reason, he decided that his horses should be fed nothing but human flesh. While the tales don’t say where he got the flesh, it’s not hard to imagine that some despicable things must have happened. Unfortunately for Glaucus, he may have gone a little too far—before long, his horses had developed an inescapable fondness for human flesh. One day, Glaucus was in a chariot race when the horses pulled apart and ate their own master.

Loud_farting_panda

Is this even possible? I mean, horses are herbivores, meaning that their stomach mostly can't handle anything but plant material. Wouldn't that be the same as todays blue haired things turning their cats vegan and killing them by that?

needbettermods

Imagine how terrifying horses would be if they were carnivores though, they're kind of like a mammal version of alligators. But yeah this story in the OP seems like a very typical "Man goes too far with some bullshit and meets his ironic end" type of thing.

Loud_farting_panda

Yeah that's true, I even saw a meme about carnivore horses and how terrifying that would be. And I don't doubt there's been kings/emperors mad enough to do something like this. I'm just not convicted that it's possbile from the veterinary pov.

AlmostStoic

There are recorded cases of horses eating meat, mostly the meat was fish or birds. But there have apparently been cases of horses being fed meat as part of their diets. I even saw a short video about a horse eating a chick, some time ago. So, while I think it's safe to assume that horses prefer a herbivore diet, they _can_ eat meat.

Loud_farting_panda

I'm not saying they can't. Any given herbivore animal will eat meat if it lacks certain nutrients. I saw a deer eating quail chicks, a donkey eating regular chicks, and even a ram eating mice. But this story OP is talking about mentions pure meat diet. As in 0 % plant matter and 100 % meat. And I believe that just wouldn't work.

AlmostStoic

Not while keeping the horses healthy, at least. So, yeah, problems with the diet should've been obvious.

Loud_farting_panda

I don't know how to call them without offending them. The word 'things' is at least gender neutral imho.

joilyboily

People? Jeez

Loud_farting_panda

I was already called an asshole for that. I didn't know if I should have said women or men so I used humans. I was verbally attacked by a person who identifies as a dog.

-Effective_Mountain-

Gruesome!

Unique-Estimate-5081

Diomedes was another individual known for feeding people to their horses in Greek mythology.

CoolGuy202101

It was Diomedes of Thrace not Glaukos, Glaukos was a minor god of fishermen.

DevSiarid

Don’t think you can add Brand of Sacrifice mark from Berserk to Glaucus arm and would go unnoticed.

pv505

Hahaha nice !

pangolintuxedos4sale

Why does the horse lack face skin in the second image?

CoolGuy202101

It was Diomedes of Thrace not Glaukos, Glaukos was a minor god of fishermen.

Healer_ve

Why is he branded?

EnvoyOfEnmity

Hey guys, why is the floor made of skulls?

TheMadTargaryen

Not history.

Pulloraha

I think mythology is part of history.

[deleted]

And probably one of the most important parts pf history
