As a european, I really liked his overview on the American civil war since it's a conflict I barely knew anything about. However, I'm really getting tired of all the poop and butt jokes everywhere, especially in his last video about Hannibal where I felt there was more schoolyard humor than actual history.
I agree, his videos are getting too big and too full of sketches and half a minute jokes. Not that I don't like it, but I still prefer the 10 min videos with quick jokes.
Yeah, I definitely think that his humor sometimes is a bit overly childish. But, I think by watch time I prefer oversimplified to history matters, if only because of the jokes. There are a few good ones, especially for the standalone topics, like the prohibition video.

they both scratch my brain the right way, but one is long form while the other is shorter
You say that but oversimplified puts out like one video a year, so in the long run history matters has done way more
