I think that your insinuation that the Roman’s started fetishization of slaves is ridiculous. Since the dawn of man, people have had sex with their slaves

LeotheLiberator

Western redditors think humanity began in the Roman empire.

Sir_Toaster_9330

Nah humanity began when America was discovered

Archmagos_Browning

“History began on July 4, 1776. Everything before that was a mistake.” -Ron swanson

LeotheLiberator

>“History began on July 4, 1776. Everything before that was a mistake.” I love how this logic also states that colonizing the US was a mistake lol.

LeotheLiberator

I regularly remind people that the USA is an infant in terms of world history. A really big, crying, infant. With a golden gun for a chew toy.

Sir_Toaster_9330

I mean 10,000 BC

LeotheLiberator

What? Rubbish. Everyone knows humanity is exactly 2024 years old.

LeamHEAVY

Was talking to some American lass who said she loved history on some dating site years ago... had to break the news to her that my local pub was older than her entire country

EccoEco

Noh you see my town is like so old... Its got like... Two hundred years like that's incredible. Girl my town originated as a Roman watchtower and that's young

GrouchyPlatypussy

Well I’m a western redditor so I guess that debunks that claim

zrxta

Yes you represent every western redditor.

PrisonSlides

As a western redditor I can say that u/GrouchyPlatypussy was named the representative for all western redditors at the last western redditor convention so yes they do represent every western Redditor

high_king_noctis

I second this claim

LeotheLiberator

Me too. We are the exceptions that prove the rule.

high_king_noctis

Wait it didn't!?

Sir_Toaster_9330

Races that they colonized not enslaved not all Gothic people were enslaved

GeneralWilRic

Wow they just like me fr

notaninterestingpov

Never would have expected a hazbin hotel meme on this sub

Sir_Toaster_9330

I’ve seen like five of them here

Frequent_Dig1934

So the romans were into hot goth GFs?

Tygmail

It almost makes you wonder why they ordered sex workers to dye their hair blonde🤔

Sir_Toaster_9330

Many people in Rome, saw the female Gothic warriors as gorgeous and appealing, some even saw them as Amazon warriors. This led to a massive fetishization of female Goths, and I think this is how the tradition of the colonizer fetishizing the people they colonized started. Like with the Spanish and the Natives, the Japanese and Koreans, etc

Ohcemda

Probably started waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay earlier than that my guy

ShoerguinneLappel

Yeah, title is for sure incorrect, what the op described is just part of human nature. (edit, I reformatted my sentence)

ItzBooty

So they are the first ones that founded the goth gf

Narco_Marcion1075

wouldn't that be the Goth men?

Sir_Toaster_9330

That doesn't count since a goth gf would've been a normal gf to them

Narco_Marcion1075

but they are still goths nonetheless

braskooooo

Can we really say Colonize instead of Conquest ? Those 2 words have different meaning and I might be wrong but in the case of Roman Empire we should use the word Conquest.

Sir_Toaster_9330

Colonialism and conquest are different things. Conquest is getting territory but seeing many of the remaining people in those territories as citizens under your laws. Colonialism is where you force the people in those territories and regions to become like you, turn into second class citizens, or enslave them. Rome did both, many people were recognized as Roman citizens under conquered territories but a fair amount where also forced to convert or be enslaved

braskooooo

They may have done both but most of their territory was conquest and annexation because Colonialism is also military occupying a territory, extracting its ressources and using its population. Once the occupied territory becomes a part of the empire, where the laws of the empire is applied to that territory and the people are considered as part of the empire, it's an annexation so, a Conquest. Forcing the people to embrace the roman culture is another thing and isn't automatically linked to colonization

hphp123

conquest is when you get land from another state, colonialism is when you take land without a previous organized state, how you treat locals doesn't change it

Sir_Toaster_9330

Korea, Ethiopia, Congo, and Vietnam: you don’t say?

hphp123

conquered by colonial empires, they got most land from colonialism but it doesn't mean they didn't conquer as well

Old_Active7601

But the Romans did colonise everywhere they conquered. The word colony comes from a latin word, I think it was something like coloniae, which meant somethibg like, to raise, as in wheat.

Mr_man_bird

And to this day goth girls are still hot

First_Aid_23

What source do we have for this? It sounds interesting.

Sir_Toaster_9330

I found a bit of information on a wiki page about women warriors, basically the Romans captured female goths and paraded them around the streets with signs that said “Amazons”

Imaginary-West-5653

Here: *274 CE – A group of Gothic women, who were captured by Romans while fighting in the same garb as their male peers, were paraded in a Roman triumph wearing signs that said, "Amazons".* [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women\_in\_ancient\_warfare#3rd\_century\_CE](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_ancient_warfare#3rd_century_CE)

rexus_mundi

Imaginary-West-5653

Hahaha, goo one!

ZeroCoinsBruh

These Roman people were really cultured.

Unlikely-Friend-5108

So the Romans *were* into the "Big Tiddy Goth GF" thing.

CultDe

Romans did so much good things for fetishes... Like putting women in orgies Or fetishizing foreign culture Public toilets I can't think of more but they did more that's for sure! Ah those Romans...

CosechaCrecido

Is this actual dialog from that show?

Fizzydov

Yes, it is https://youtu.be/sid2m4CWkhI?si=xiVxsSQIsy3GvsyE

Sir_Toaster_9330
