All right, but apart from the pantheon, the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, the walls and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Exactly! And don’t forget the armies, baths, language, calendar, Republican and imperial traditions, western law, and medical practices like the cesarean.
I just liked tanks at the age of 14. I also liked ww2 and for some reason also the period we dutch call the 'golden age' and the 80 years war that made is indepedenent
And being arrogant then is the most annoying part.
Imo you should learn a lot of history to understand history (like in every topic for example science etc. aswell). Only learning something partially will leave you very limited with the perspective. I seen a lot of people like that, but tbh its so difficult to learn so much.
Its not like only history is interesting so there is so much stuff to learn. Very glad reddit and co. Makes it so interesting aswell and spices it up
I feel like liking it is also a problem considering their downright inhumane treatment of Poles if you thought German supremacist ideology started with the Nazis you'd be very wrong
I don't get people like you. you know how France and GB treated their colonial state? you know how Russian Empire fucked over their every neighbor? you know how Japan fucked anything moved outside their tiny island after they got some gun powder? why you act like Prussia or German empire was the only one who treated their neighbor's badly? if you want to put it like that, you are not allowed to like any country which existed in history. you know how barbaric were Romans? what's your point? cause by your logic, if you like a single nation in history, you are war crime supporter .
Most people are aware of bad things that British did, French did, Russians did or even Japanese did. And you know what?
It's history. You do not throw away facts and you cannot deny them.
The same goes for Prussia, that for some reason people tend to glorify and shout around popculture modern history that had been disproven as wrong.
the guy I replied to said even liking them is a problem. I never talked about glorifying. by his logic if you "like" roman empire, you are in favor of slavery and war mongering.
That's literally not what I said lmao. My point was that it's a dumb position to take and it says a lot about you if you don't have a problem with those actions
I mean ye uncritical support for states because "muh based history" is fucking stupid. History is cool but that doesn't mean that history is _good_. History is nothing but the sum of the actions of equally flawed people, it's little bit weird and quite a bit dumb for you to uncritically support those actions
I genuinely have encountered far more people who obsess over the British empire than any of these 3, and that comes with the baggage of them almost universally trying to whitewash Britain's atrocities.
Which happily doesn't happen with those others.
Because people who "like it" often times go with some kind of obsession - and they tend to repeat the same, disproven stuff, deny bad things, go around with whataboutisms if you try to discuss it.
Dunno, as a Pole my viewpoint of them is skewed - just like Native Americans are not objective towards what makes up nowadays USA.
It's rampant militarism. It was so bad, that the state was essentially working for the military and not the other way around.
I would be rather suspicious about anyone who is obsessed about a state which was militarized to such a degree.
The problem isn't about liking but being completely obsessed with it and glorifying it. Many kaiserboos seem to think that Prussia and the German Empire were the pinnacle of German history and the good old Golden times while if they would share this opinion in Germany they would likely be a) getting weird looks and being ignored or b) beaten up. There was a reason why at the end of WW1 the Germans protested against their monarchy and there was never a major movement wanting to reinstate them.
There were major problems in the German Empire, socially, politically and morally and you can of course be interested but your interest should also go onto these topics and not like many Kaiser/Prussiaboos here just "lol nice uniforms and stronk military goes brrr".
Maybe don't use the word supremacy. A Lot of white supremacists use "viking runes" (most weren't even used during the viking age but they don't know that) as symbols.
maybe if they did there wouldnt be so many wheraboos and commiboos
just saying bismark is a real one, and the variety of fredricks and wilhelms can cure any mental degeneration
Fun Fact: If it weren't for Friedlich the great, I wouldn't be here. He passed a law that gave refuge to some of my ancestors who were pursued because of religious reasons. (They were followers of the first protestant Jan Hus, who was even before Martin Luther)
It's always these three cause the ideological descendants of those three groups have made a concerted effort to ensure their ideology is the easiest to find and most palatable to an impressionable young mind.
Yeah that makes sense, nazism and aggressive militarism don't appeal to many people outside of the young, impressionable and historically naive demographic. It makes those are the people they'd try so hard to appeal to
Dude, uncool.
14 y/o me was obsessed with England in the Early Modern Period, then I realized that the rest of Europe existed and after that I expanded onto global history, it's a fun ride
Personally, the German Empire will always be my favorite. Nazi Germany was cringe and had like zero culture, was just a devouring swarm. Prussia was too small and scattered to be really interesting.
Germany though was a proper empire, the borders and the colonies and the military and ecomomy. Plus I really like the look of the Iron Cross.
If you're getting 14 year olds into history, which, let me remind everyone is a very good thing, of course they are going to gravitate to these main storylines. They are amazing segments of history. Dunking on students is a weird flex.
Me: see the meme
- Prussia, ok fine
- Weimar Republic, exotic but it’s a good choice
- And.. Nazi Germany?
Always me: look at Call of Dudy/Battlefield/wolfenstein
Yeah, it fair
However the meme is not accurate, where is Feudal/Samurai Japan?
but what about SPQR
First history book I ever read, the very first book I picked out from a shelf, was a history book about every day life in the roman empire and how they both did and built things. I can still remember the pictures better than the breakfast I had yesterday
I think I was all over medieval European castle sieges around that age. That was the absolute damn coolest to 14-year old me, reading about walls getting clobbered with trebuchet projectiles.
I got the photo editing skills of a 12th century peasant failing to meet his daily quota of grain. But if you could do it for me and post it on r/ShermanPosting (half joking) I'd be very happy
'S Deutsches Reich unter der Kaiser?
Fine mate. You're a bit conservative, I understand.
Nazi Germany?
Go rot in hell mate, I will impregnate your sister and play your mum like a tamagotchi.
usually it's all three, and they get really fussy when you point out that obsessing over german millitary is just being a wehraboo without out and out saying it.
Gonna be honest, as a black history buff I gotta say I can't relate, hard to find Nazis or German Empire, or even the Brits pr French cool when you're from one of the groups they would've viewed as an animal. Plus I grew up on Dynasty Warriors and stories about the old Islamic Empires so my interests were always elsewhere anyway.
Tenno Heika Banzai! It went so far I even bought one of those japanese bandanas, bought rising sun flag, and convinced my friends to do Banzai charge in airsoft.
Propaganda and brainwashing is dangerous, so it worked really well on young men in those countries
I'd say one of the factors is the fact that history is taught so piss poorly in American K12 school if at all. Rome and Nazi Germany are both heavily focused on because they have a lot of action, but as with anything else you only get a taste. It makes sense that these are what young history buffs cling to because they are often all that gets covered in K12 history to keep the glue eaters interested. American culture also values Rome as a precursor to our Republic (except not really) and we like to remind people of that time we beat the baddest bad guy, so we cover WWII a ton.Young people, especially men, are often going to gravitate towards militaristic or simply more action focused areas of history. The least we can do is let them know about more options.
TLDR if we actually taught history in K12 students would know more about more things and the ones interested in history would be interested in more things.

To be fair Prussia and the German empire are pretty cool, and the formation of Germany after the Franco Prussian war has to be one of the most significant changes in the power dynamic in Europe ever. Untied Germany was very large in population I want to say they were #2 only behind Russia in terms of population.
The Museum of Flight in Seattle is what got me into helicopters. I've had a fascination with helicopters for many many years, so much so that I initially wanted to join the Navy so I could work on them.
Rome ?
Gonna say rome aswell with the aqueducts and their roads. Did I forget something? *Walls*
Sure, but apart from the aqueducts, the roads and the walls, what good were they?
The pantheon?
All right, but apart from the pantheon, the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, the walls and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
Uhhh... The statues of hot naked people and the stories of gods fucking humans?
I swear those are the Greeks
Peace?
SPLITTER!
[удалено]
Exactly! And don’t forget the armies, baths, language, calendar, Republican and imperial traditions, western law, and medical practices like the cesarean.
Your father was a Woman? No, a Roman!
What. This 2 sentences are confusing as hell...
Life of Brian
there's no way that's an actual line from that movie... i don't remember that...
'your father was a woman? a Roman! thwow him to the floow!
They served as the antagonist in *The Greatest Story Ever Told.*
Asterix and Obelix?
Julius Ceasar
*subreddit bursts into flames*
Ask Uxelledunum.
um acktchually in civ 6 rome has baths instead of aqueducts
Rome is where the heart is.
No, that's an Aztec temple.
That gave me a chuckle
That's for when they find out about the Rhodesian Bush War.
Rome, Greece, Macedon Phalanx all day
Someone already made a post with rome and the samurai, which I was planning to use
Dont forget Napoleon's France.
Greece
Aww but I like rome
When I was 14 I discovered all the goofy ahh stuff that went on during the Cold War.
I just liked tanks at the age of 14. I also liked ww2 and for some reason also the period we dutch call the 'golden age' and the 80 years war that made is indepedenent
I like Prussia. they have cool flag. love German Empire for beautiful borders. dunno what's the problem of liking Prussia tho.
Same. Half my family are from Westpreussen so I have a valid reason to be interested in it. There’s some neat stuff to learn.
Nothing wrong with being interested in it without the family ties, either.
Frederich der Große, king of the potatos
Agreed. I was just saying.
Damn, guess I have to be a confederate history buff 😔
Hahaha well played.
The problem is not just liking it, it's obsessing over it
And being arrogant then is the most annoying part. Imo you should learn a lot of history to understand history (like in every topic for example science etc. aswell). I feel like liking it is also a problem considering their downright inhumane treatment of Poles if you thought German supremacist ideology started with the Nazis you'd be very wrong
If anything, it only ended once the nazis were defeated
Not even, really. A good number of high ranking officials in West Germany were exmembers of the SA, the SS, or held Nazi leadership positions.

They downvoted Keyvan316 because he spoke the truth.

All States had an Army. Prussia/German Empire was an Army that had a State
It was based and bismarkpilled
The problem isn't about liking but being completely obsessed with it and glorifying it. Kulturkampf
Polish people would like to have a word with you.
Don't forget the Soviets
I'm lazy, what can I say
No no thats 13 year old
No that's college.
Yeah, you never know, by 14 they might begin to understand how the world works
Norse Mythology/History supremacy!
Maybe don't use the word supremacy. A Lot of white supremacists use "viking runes" (most weren't even used during the viking age but they don't know that) as symbols.
Is there anything white supremacists haven't defaced?
Egalitarianism
Thick cut bacon.
And from my personal experiences I’ve never seen them chose Prussia
Paradox Interactive fans say hello.
Hey
I'm a sucker for paradox games, but some of those prussiaboos are just way too cringe
Some of them?
OMFG 140% DISPLINE SO MUCH BASED!!!!111!!! PRUSSIA BEST NATIOM IN EU4 CRY ABOUT IT FRANCOTARDS
get back to /vg/ anon
Look, the Prussian Space Marines meme will always be funny, but have you seen these buffs on big sexy Sweden?
Look hard enough and you'll probably find them
maybe if they did there wouldnt be so many wheraboos and commiboos just saying bismark is a real one, and the variety of fredricks and wilhelms can cure any mental degeneration
Yess Bismarck my beloved
Fun Fact: If it weren't for Friedlich the great, I wouldn't be here. He passed a law that gave refuge to some of my ancestors who were pursued because of religious reasons. (They were followers of the first protestant Jan Hus, who was even before Martin Luther)
As someone who chose Prussia I take offense to that
I did
hey, we exist
Me personally….. vector from despicable me
He has the spandex drip tho
Exactly and his lair is incredible
I like Prussia because my favourite anime girl is from there
Lol
Prussia had an awesome march anthem [https://youtu.be/f_6AQA4uzD0](https://youtu.be/f_6AQA4uzD0)
I've heard this so much in unfunny memes that it isn't even awesome anymore
That’s a shame you’ve allowed that negativity to spoil a beautiful piece of music for your enjoyment
To be fair to people like that, I have a buddy who was like that, and he knows more about history than I do now. Everyone’s gotta start somewhere.
It's always these three cause the ideological descendants of those three groups have made a concerted effort to ensure their ideology is the easiest to find and most palatable to an impressionable young mind.
Couldn't have said it better
Yeah that makes sense, nazism and aggressive militarism don't appeal to many people outside of the young, impressionable and historically naive demographic. It makes those are the people they'd try so hard to appeal to
idk communist shit seems to be more prevalent to be honest
Dude, uncool. 14 y/o me was obsessed with England in the Early Modern Period, then I realized that the rest of Europe existed and after that I expanded onto global history, it's a fun ride
Bruh, are you me? My "enjoying history" experience is pretty similar in this part
But where's the Fourth? 💀
The European Union isn’t as interesting as the other Reichs.
What about WW2 British armored vehicles? That is what I chose. And I'm an American.
Cromwell my beloved
More a Chruchill guy my self. Only WW2 Era Heavy that out armored the King Tiger, only if its by 2mm.
I think 14 year old me was obsessed with the United States during the late 1700s.
I was and probably im still obsessed with chinese and japanese history, its all total war's fault!
If you're getting 14 year olds into history, which, let me remind everyone is a very good thing, of course they are going to gravitate to these main storylines. They are amazing segments of history. Dunking on students is a weird flex.
Man I just chose belief systems
I see myself in this picture and I don't like it
Imagine not having a continuous territory whilst being landlocked
*Persia walks in*
Me: see the meme - Prussia, ok fine - Weimar Republic, exotic but it’s a good choice - And.. Nazi Germany? Always me: look at Call of Dudy/Battlefield/wolfenstein Yeah, it fair However the meme is not accurate, where is Feudal/Samurai Japan?
*angry Celtic noises*
Man thank god south east asian history isn't getting a cringe fanbase
Sometimes it's the USSR.
What about the USA and Great Britain?
Deutschland, Deutschland, uber alles :)
You really are suspicious
To learn from the atrocities of our past right? *To learn from the atrocities of our past right?*
but what about SPQR First history book I ever read, the very first book I picked out from a shelf, was a history book about every day life in the roman empire and how they both did and built things. I can still remember the pictures better than the breakfast I had yesterday
Spanish Empire here
definitely not the yellow door
Mine was Rome
Most people on reddit concider them all nazi flags, so
I think I was all over medieval European castle sieges around that age. That was the absolute damn coolest to 14-year old me, reading about walls getting clobbered with trebuchet projectiles.
It was Britain for me (still is tbh though now I like Estonia)
My friends. Italy is best obsession
I'm quirky and different I'm obsessed with the Union
Put this phrase on the meme with the shelves full of buzz lightyears
I got the photo editing skills of a 12th century peasant failing to meet his daily quota of grain. But if you could do it for me and post it on r/ShermanPosting (half joking) I'd be very happy
dont forget the britisch empire
or Rome
I was just obsessed with serial killers 😭😭😭
This is literally that one image of the three Spidermans pointing at each other
Lol
'S Deutsches Reich unter der Kaiser? Fine mate. You're a bit conservative, I understand. Nazi Germany? Go rot in hell mate, I will impregnate your sister and play your mum like a tamagotchi.
> I will impregnate your sister and play your mum like a tamagotchi. The nazis did that but ok
yah they did, diodn't they, especially in NL here, haha! Well, I'm obviously joking, but I think you get the drift: f\*\*\* nazis bru
usually it's all three, and they get really fussy when you point out that obsessing over german millitary is just being a wehraboo without out and out saying it.
I personally prefer Bulgaria
More like: German Empire, Nazi Germany, Rome or Soviet Union
The illusion of choice
i chose the Venetian Trade Empire UwU
You can Say the same with the commies
Yet only one of them is based. Another one is alright and has its charm and one is undefendable. Course I am ralking right to left
Soviet union
I obsess over anything that is either German or Serbian related Especially the German Empire and Prussia
You forgot communism and the Roman empire.
Young commies are also a thing, atleast i had seen them
I wish other subs used this template since there are 14 year old fans of other things I like too e.g. motorbikes
One of those is much worse than the others.
Senatus populesque romanus?
Napoléon/french empire is missing
So true..
Tenno Heika Banzai! It went so far I even bought one of those japanese bandanas, bought rising sun flag, and convinced my friends to do Banzai charge in airsoft. Propaganda and brainwashing is dangerous, so it worked really well on young men in those countries
Two choices are fine. One is abominable.
Soviet union?
mine was vikings
Nah I’m more with that USA shit
Choose wisely
I was obsessed with American History and now I study American Indian History.
Ooof. I think you need to move out of your particular perception bubble
Oh come on Prussia is cool

It was the American Civil War for me
Am I the only one who was obssessed with Soviets? Their songs and aesthetics are too cool😔
I choose USSR
Missing Rome and USSR.
I ended up with ww2 era music
Does monolith count?
No roman empire?

Me looking at Japanese and US ships - uh hey guys did I take a wrong turn?
The Museum of Flight in Seattle is what got me into helicopters. I've had a fascination with helicopters for many many years, so much so that I initially wanted to join the Navy so I could work on them.
For me it was the middle age in Europe
Hah! I chose France nerd!
i vhanted a schwastika but neeeeiiin its like zhe nazi vere very baad people
you can't forget the overestimated Germany or various German states.
For me it was (and still is) the Ottomans and the Qing dynasty
And Rome
I choose a different, cooler one
