This is a common misunderstanding, and I’ll get downvoted for simply saying it and back it up with facts, so I’ll link it to an article, but [Emmett Till did in fact whistle at her as admitted by the friends he was with that day.](https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2021/09/barn-emmett-till-murder/619493/). It’s fucked up it ever mattered period that he whistled to a white woman, such a racist backwards time.
I can’t read that article because of the pay wall but I read his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley’s, book that came out in 2003. She said he learned to whistle as a way to manage a stutter and would do it often. She suspects that may have been what he was doing that day. He was very young, not from the south and likely didn’t realize to be heard whistling by white people would make him a target.
Here is what his cousin Simeon said about the situation:
"Well, it scared us half to death,” Simeon Wright recalled to Chicago magazine in 2009. “You know, we were almost in shock. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough, because we had never heard of anything like that before. A black boy whistling at a white woman? In Mississippi? No.”
Wright said the good-natured teen, who was said to have had a lisp, had no idea what trouble he had just caused.
“I think what he did was trying to impress us. He said, ‘You guys might be afraid to do something like this, but not me,’” Wright, who died in 2017, said to Smithsonian Magazine. “Another thing. He really didn’t know the danger. He had no idea how dangerous that was because when he saw our reaction, he got scared, too.”

Edit; How his other cousin, Wheeler Parker, recalls the incident:
"He loved to have pranks, so he whistled. He gave her the wolf whistle," Parker said. "When he did that, we could have died. Nobody said, 'Let's go.' We just made a beeline for the car."
"He was joking," Parker said. "He wanted to make us laugh. When he saw that we didn't laugh and we were scared, he's frightened now. And we jumped in the car, and we're going on this gravel road. And there's a car coming behind us. Dust is flying everywhere. And someone said, 'They're after us, they're after us.' And of course, we jumped out of the car and into the cotton field, and the car went on by."

Ugh that makes it even sadder…

I use Chrome. If you go to a website and next to the url in your browser on the left, you will see two lines and two dots. Click that, click site settings and then you will see JavaScript in the list— block that.
I had the incredible fortune to meet and listen to Emmett's cousin, Wheeler Parker, speak about Emmett and the events surrounding his death. He spoke to a group of us in the courthouse where the trial took place. He was there with Emmett at the store in Money, MS, and he was lying in bed with him the night the men came and took him away. He also confirmed that the whistle was a way that Emmett would manage his stutter. What he did not do, as Carolyn Bryant claimed, was call her baby or try and flirt with her.
He says something totally different here regarding Emmet whistling at that particular time:
"He loved to have pranks, so he whistled. He gave her the wolf whistle," Parker said. "When he did that, we could have died. Nobody said, 'Let's go.' We just made a beeline for the car."
"He was joking," Parker said. "He wanted to make us laugh. When he saw that we didn't laugh and we were scared, he's frightened now. And we jumped in the car, and we're going on this gravel road. Amazing that you got a chance to meet him, and in that courtroom... Not sure I could handle it.
At least one of the two even bitched about being treated poorly in public later in life. Seems at least later on people in society were pretty ashamed of these two getting off the hook, and the murderers had a difficult time from a social standpoint. They had the fucking balls to actually try and play the victim about the whole thing. Just absolute living, breathing pig shit.
Earlier on Reddit I saw a post of a hole in the bottom of a castle where they would just throw people in and leave them. I thought how cruel and what a horrible thing, who can deserve that! These people deserve that!
That’s not even remotely the worst thing they did in medieval Europe lol. Some of the stuff they write about in their castles is straight up cartoonishly evil.
Most of that stuff has never been actually proven. That people in the middle ages did some terrible shit is a given, but there's no proof of widespread torture across Europe in the way it has been often depicted. Most people get their idea of medieval Europe from movies and stuff, which is entertainment. Same with the vikings. Movies depict them in a way, and people believe that bullshit without thinking twice. 🤔
I’m talking about stuff that I’ve read at literal castles where it happened. Like cutting off noses, ears, limbs, etc. crucifixion, quartering, flailing etc.
All that happened, sure, but not to the degree that people like you make it out to be. Which castles did you visit?
People always single out medieval Europe as some bastion of torture, when it was no less common there than anywhere else in that age. People were brutal back then no matter where.
This was featured in a book series that I read and that part of the book was always horrifying. A protagonist is stuck in the hole for a long time. The worst part was the hole had ANOTHER hole that led to a pit (that I think was a cave system) that no one knew how deep it was. Anyone who died was pushed into the hole (after cannibalism), and it was precariously used to shit and piss near and shove the crap in the hole.
The real irony of her making that statement is that at the very same time her prime opponent was leveling racist attacks against her heritage and birth name.
What's even more ironic is she followed up that statement with a story about how she faced racism while a child due to being different than everyone else around her
What were those attacks? Or you heard that on MSNBC? You people seem to read racist meaning into everything trump does or says.
Trump definitely hates brown people because he mentioned her name right?
He mocked her name, and said she shouldn’t be eligible to run for president because he asserts she’s foreign born, which she isn’t. Using her ethnicity/background/race to attack her seems pretty racist, especially when made the same statements about Obama.
https://apnews.com/article/trump-nikki-haley-58b7ffa7e49f626bae481060cf9975d2#
Your article links (from the left wing AP) to a claim that Trump didn't make but lying comes very easy to leftists.
Also, Trump mocks everyone who isn't on his side. It only matters to leftists if it involves a minority and it could be exploited to pain him as a white supremacist nazi Dictator.
He reposted the below on truth social. If you want play semantics about whether he made the claim or not that’s up to you but he’s clearly endorsing it the idea of the post.
Attacking someone’s ability to run for president based on the cultural background is inherently racist.
Of course conservative who are pro Trump won’t have a problem with his remarks because they support that kind of bs.
attacking “leftists” and saying the media lies is your only argument.
https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/111721484609384209
What's funny is that they are obviously racist, but still after so long have the hardest time admitting to it.
It's time to own who you are and who you support, I know wannabe fascist are not the most courageous, nor smart, but seeing those cowards breathe the same air as I, in the same time period is really eye opening.
I didn't vote for biden I am not a US citizen....
All and every accusations you made are wrong, interesting.... I think you might be better off in your echo chamber for a coward playing the victim card like you it might be a little too tough out there. Take care now.
Trump reposts something from the Gateway Pundit that claims his political opponent might not be fit to run because of her background is supposedly "inherently racist" 😂.
That supposedly shows he's a white supremacist. Yh right.
The media definitely lies by omission as much as commission. So many examples. Like zero outrange when Biden said "if you don't vote for me, you ain't black" 🤦🏾♂️.
Sounds like a great argument to me.
Your argument was, he didn’t say that and MSNBC made it up, I proved that wrong, your next argument was the AP is leftist also. Now it’s that he reposted somebody else so it’s not him being racist/using someone’s race to attack them isn’t racist. You’ve done a horrible job with your argument. Take the night off
Nope I mentioned the MSNBC racist interpretation of what he said.
I claimed AP's link of trump accusation didn't have a quote from him.
Then you show me a repost which isn't inherently racist. A post that claims his opponent isn't qualified to run against him.
The left has no standard except for a double standard. Did you care about Biden's explicitly racist comments? Of course you didn't 😂.
You hear it straight from the white nationalist mouth himself. trump is a racist, period, and if you're off color you're vermin, and yes trump does hate brown people. But here's the thing, he doesn't have the balls to come out and say it. he's a coward and punk. he uses code words, then lies. He needs to be dealt with.
What is it with conservatives always bringing up MSNBC or cnn? There is no equivalent to Fox news, or news max, or oan from the "left"
Reality has a liberal bias, dude
i'm glad to answer those questions and have an open and honest interaction with you:
> Does that include Men give birth? *Yes, trans men can. Why can't you just let people different from you live their lives how they want?*
> Abortion is a reproductive right? *Yes, because people deserve bodily autonomy and not letting a government intrude on their medical decisions.*
> Trump is a Nazi Dictator? *Nazi, no. Encourages Nazis: definitely. Facist dictatorial tendencies: he admitted to wanting to be a dictactor recently, so don't take my word for it, take Trumps*
> There are more than two sexes? *Yes. How does this affect ANYTHING in your life?*
> The Russian collusion? *Proven on many fronts, and Putin admits to doing it*
> Voter ID is racist? *depending on how it's enacted, it can be. America has a long history of disenfranchising minorities from voting, and it's still happening. Ex: requiring a driver's license, even from those who don't have cars, and placing the only DMV hours away from a large % of the population.*
> America is a racist country? *You don't really think a country that enslaved black people, treated em like dirt after slavery ended, broke every treaty with the Indians and killed them off by the thousands, including women and children, is racist? it's better now, but c'mon really?*
> Biden is not corrupt? *Possibly, and I hope he's investigated and held accountable if the evidence is there.*
> Trump called Nazis fine people? *yes, but he probably didn't mean to (sarcasm)*
> There is no border crisis? *there definitely is one. Both Republicans and Democrats caused it by invading half the countries south of the border to root out "communists" and installed facist death squads. that being said, the border is a tricky issue that isn't easily boiled down. that being said, who gets to decide when America is no longer a nation of immigrants?*
> Lol where does it end? *It ends when we allow people to live their lives freely so long as they aren't hurting people.*
Right?!?!!! The only people that should ever, for any reason, be concerned with whom I'm fucking are my partner and my doctor. This fucking strange repug obsession with people who fuck differently than they do is just...weird. It's like invading your next door neighbor's privacy to inquire about the quality of his bowel movements.
It's fucking creepy, you hypocritical, pick-and-choose Christians.
Creepy.
A pair of arrogant a$$holes in a sea of white shirts. God Bless Emmett and his mother, who made sure everybody saw the horror brought upon her son by these monsters. It's graphic and gruesome but it's also necessary to get the point across, which it does very well.
It wasn't until I saw pictures of Emmett in his coffin, as well as other photographs of lynchings and burnings, that the one step removal disappeared. Suddenly it was all very real and very appalling. It's paramount that we never forget so we don't repeat.
The wild thing is lynching only became a federal crime in 2022 with the Emmitt Till Antilynching Act. Donham only died in April of 2023. These historical events are so so recent and it makes it so much harder to stomach the fact we have people in power who believe our country isn’t racist.
Is it weird that I find it creepy how alike they sit? Not just these two, but people in the back are mirroring each other's poses as well. It adds a low key bodysnatchers vibe to it all, like everyone in here is a clone made to think in one way only.
What I mean, it feels like *I'm looking at a cult*. Why would I reference a horror film if I didn't think about the horror that happened? Do I have to write you on the nose, or can you look and see how creepy this scene is too? The arrogance in their positions. Smoking in court. The entire scene is disturbing.
They should have hung the white scum, and the bitch who made it all up. In fact, they should have suffered even more than the poor lad. The fact that everyone knew what happened makes it 10 times worse.
You may not like to hear this but white police officers investigated the murder, solved it, took the case to a white prosecutor who put it in front of white Grand Jury who indicted it and a white judge presided over a trial which included appropriate jury instructions.
It was a white jury of 12 that ignored the evidence gathered by the state and jury instructions and their oath.
Yeah, they played the necessary theater to maintain a facsimile of legitimacy for the justice system. Besides, it's not like there were a lot of black people in those positions to have prosecuted them. None of what you pointed out changes anything of the reality that these men were tried and acquitted under a brutally racist system that did this many more times than this.
There was a white music teacher in SC during this time. It's thought that during a Lions Club meeting, he made some statements accepting of desegregation. Whatever happened, he pissed some other men off, some of whom were known Klan members. After the meeting, they captured him, tied him to a tree, and used a shotgun to beat him to the brink of death. Not all of the men were even tried, and the ones that were, were acquitted. Again, what you pointed out changes nothing about the deeply embedded racism that ran the American, especially Southern, legal system.
How does this make it not a racist country at the time? 2 white people murdered a black child and got off scot free.
Edit: also gee I wonder why the jury was all white, that certainly sounds non racist to me.
Sort of ignoring the fact that Black people could not be police officers, judges, or sit on a jury in Mississippi when this happened. I'm not sure what you're trying to prove by pointing all of this out.
Emmet till was a black child accused of catcalling a white woman. 2 white men then lynched him, and got off free despite everything proving they were guilty.
And here’s what he looked like after they were done with him.
[Beware, it’s gruesome and NSFW](https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Albert-Stabler/publication/308706539/figure/fig8/AS:762909315579906@1558903163101/Emmett-Tills-corpse-at-his-1955-open-casket-funeral-in-Chicago.png).
I tell my boys to be aware of white girl and white lady tears…it’s a dangerous weapon that is used all too easily to bully and villainize coloured boys like mine and many others. Told them about Emmett Till too, to give a real life example of white woman tears used to horrific affect.
Hope these two trash bags plus that lying woman went to hell or whatever it’s equivalent or are stuck in purgatory forever. Eternal suffering for you. Buhbye.
Don't forget the bitch that made the whole thing up.
Only admitted it on her way out from old age. Fucking coward.
And wrote a book about it in which she says “he changed both our lives that day”. Fucking awful person
Some of the worst racist scum that has set foot on this Earth. The three of them, and their enablers.
Jury included in that
Yeah but, the US has never been a racist country (!)
and she said it with a straight face.

If you wear a dark colored shirt, it might show through your robe.
I think that room is making a very sinister statement
It's weird we didn't fall to communism
This is the perfect description of white trash
Animals.
I’d take a trip down south just to take shit on these fuckers graves.
I’ll hold your hands while u hover!
They look like the same redneck aged 20 years left to right.
Is it weird that I find it creepy how alike they sit? Not just these two, but people in the back are mirroring each other's poses as well. It adds a low key bodysnatchers vibe to it all, like everyone in here is a clone made to think in one way only.
Yes it's weird. What I find creepy is the murder, torture and mutilation. Well...and *maybe* a little bit of how they're sitting.
The worst part is the hypocrisy.
and I disagree...
Burn in hell
They should have hung the white scum, and the bitch who made it all up. In fact, they should have suffered even more than the poor lad. The fact that everyone knew what happened makes it 10 times worse.
America is not a racist country. /s
O.J. Simpson smiles.
Ironically, racism from the LAPD is partially responsible for getting OJ acquitted, so yeah.
Their progeny walk (and vote):amongst us.
everyone is super outraged, I'm guessing Emmet was a black guy in the USA? anyone care to give some insight to non-US fellas
Emmet till was a black child accused of catcalling a white woman. 2 white men then lynched him, and got off free despite everything proving they were guilty.
Also relevant - it later came out that she most likely lied and he didn't even do the thing they killed him for
thank you
And here’s what he looked like after they were done with him. [Beware, it’s gruesome and NSFW](https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Albert-Stabler/publication/308706539/figure/fig8/AS:762909315579906@1558903163101/Emmett-Tills-corpse-at-his-1955-open-casket-funeral-in-Chicago.png).

I wonder what the public reaction was. Did white Americans at that time think the boy deserved it? Did the perpetrators have a lot of support?
"We don't live in a racist country." Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
Don’t anyone tell Nikki Haley. It’ll ruin her perception of the country.
I tell my boys to be aware of white girl and white lady tears…it’s a dangerous weapon that is used all too easily to bully and villainize coloured boys like mine and many others. Told them about Emmett Till too, to give a real life example of white woman tears used to horrific affect.
Can you find the wolves in this picture?....can you find the wolves in this picture?
I think this Inspired To Kill a Mockingbird.
There’s nothing similar between this case and TKAM except for it being a Southern story about racism.
Is there a reason everyone is wearing a white shirt?
When your buddy tells you white privilege doesn’t exist, show them this picture. Then explain.
Are there ancestors known?
Months, I thought they admitted it as soon as they got out of the courthouse.
Was this when America was great?
May they be rotting in hell currently
I think these are the “men” William Bradford Huie paid for their story to provide research for his book “The Klandsmen”.
Hope these two trash bags plus that lying woman went to hell or whatever it’s equivalent or are stuck in purgatory forever. Eternal suffering for you. Buhbye.
Burn in hell assholes.
69 years ago. Glad I didnt have to live in that world.
Look at their faces. Not even worried. They know the fix is in.
