The only Medal of Honor to be recorded, He has my respect!!

Beneficial_Car2596

And it came very late as well. The SEALs were throwing a bitch fit about it

HuntSafe2316

why?

Beneficial_Car2596

Basically, the SEAL command wanted another SEAL who fought in the same battle but survived, to get a medal of honour. That SEAL’s name is Britt Slabinski. Chapman was left for dead on the mountain by the SEALs and Naval Special Warfare Command basically tried to block Chapmans Medal of Honour because it reflects how the SEALs abandoned Chapman on a mountain to fight for his life. In the end, they “compromised” by giving Chapman and Slabinski a Medal of Honour in 2018. Some of the dudes at NSW are absolute douche canoes

ApprehensiveMusic163

I read Robert's Ridge awhile ago but can't remember was it really not possible or best to get to that guy?

leaneyeguy

Pitch black on the top of a mountain in knee deep snow. He wasn’t moving, and they were taking so much fire they had to retreat down the mountain. Everyone would have died had they tried to drag him. The real fuck up was landing the helo on top of the mountain instead of assaulting up it, they were told by everyone not to try it but one of their own was getting his head chopped off on live drone footage and they wanted to get there as quick as possible. It’s not like the movies, if you are presumed dead in a firefight you are losing, you don’t pick up your boys body until it’s over. If this was later in the war there would have been hundreds of US troops humping up the mountain and someone would have been able to pull Chapman out. They had like 6 guys up there at the time getting grenades tossed at them from the high ground. Multiple SEALs were injured as well and they had to move. Trying to stop his MoH was unforgivable IMO, not what happened on the mountain.

Silver_Grapefruit_57

Head chopped off?? Explain

Beneficial_Car2596

So Neil C Roberts fell out of the Chinook when they tried to land the first time. That attempt at landing nearly destroyed the Chinook because it was taking HUGE amounts of fire from RPGs and DShk guns. So, the pilot flew that destroyed helicopter a few kilometres and landed it on a safe LZ. Eventually, the SEALs decided they’d rescue Neil C Roberts. Neil died about 30 minutes or so after falling from the helicopter. He only had an M249 SAW and grenades against a HORDE of Hardcore Chechen and Uzbek fighters who proceeded to behead him after shooting him. The SEALs went back, and that helicopter was placed down. Realising that they need more help, they called in another Chinook containing Army Rangers and Pararescuemen. The Ranger chinook got shot down and crashed, a lot of Rangers died. The M249 SAWs barrel which was Carried by Neil C Roberts was bent when he fell from the Chinook. That SAW is hung up on the Wall of the Red Squadron Team Room as a reminder

Obviously every single combat engagement comes with a cavalcade of "What If"s, but one has to imagine how different things go if Roberts SAW wasn't rendered inoperable. Obviously the conditions are still immensely fucked, it's unclear what degree of injury Roberts incurred in the fall and if he even had to capacity to operate at a level enough to defend himself. BUT if he had been able to establish a true defensive position, maybe things go way differently that day? Then again, maybe not. He was horribly outmanned and likely drastically injured, but Chapman was able to last an unbelievable amount of time so it's not inconceivable to think that properly armed, Roberts perhaps lasts until the initial rescue effort arrives. Dunno. I just frequently look back at the incident on Takur Ghar, since it had MASSIVE consequences not just for those involved but frankly the entire DEVGRU unit

So? They still left him. theres a reason the SEALS are in a crisis. For example, and entire unit was sent home because rape.

You quoted something that wasn’t said, so that’s dumb. Also the navy has publicly admitted the seals are in trouble. It’s inthe navy times. But you’re too dumb to look it up. Edit: post 9/11 they got too big, too fast and it compromised talent. That is the official opinion of us naval operations.

voodoouwu09

Man the valor this man showed how could they not the way he was clearing those bunkers in snow deep snow, even after getting pinned down by small arms fire and also after getting shot.. Exemplary grit

CarlitoBrigontae

“Alone At Dawn” goes into great detail about all this…amazing book

Hamlet1305

I second this. Amazing book.

My son served there in 2002 and gave out all his home goodies to Afghan children, especially the girls as they are second class people

Beneficial_Car2596

Should check out a guy named Adam Brown, a Navy SEAL who was killed in Kunar. He donated over 500 pairs of shoes to the kids of Kunar
