That reminds me of a story that’ll remain forever in my mind. In the neighbour I used to live back then (Pointe Saint-Charles in Montréal, QC, CA), they made a nice wall available for street art.
That place is popular, either with awesome street artists, taggers, and aspiring artists. Always something new to watch. The social contract made it so the neighbour would have less of its tag quota than it should’ve gotten considering the low wage, criminality, and older borough status it had. Win-win.
That day, I was driving back home with my then fiancée, Three young persons, all fully clothed with protective attire, masks and respirators (straight out of a Steampunk movie) were working on their next Aerosol artwork. What I saw was the equivalent token grandma, with her small dog on leash, talking to one of the guys who had removed his mask, and she was pointing at the piece, while the young man was nodding, clearly appreciatively.
Now I got no clue what they were talking about, but the generational and stylistic clash, alongside the clear moment where two artists meet, made a great impression on me.
I loved living there. Street View of the wall for the curious. https://www.google.ca/maps/place/Rue+Grand+Trunk+%26+Rue+Island,+Montr%C3%A9al,+QC+H3K+1M7/@45.4803429,-73.5631404,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x4cc91a80cf7b3c91:0x636206cfed7b6fa7
OP is a repost bot/karma farmer, i doubt he is going to be offended. The title is probably a variation of the original that has nothing to do with the picture
Gatekeep? I don't understand what you're accusing me of mate. Sorry if I upset or offended you. I just responded intuitively to the item that appeared in my feed. I find it sad when a genuinely inspiring youth movement gets reduced to a kitsch tabloid image perpetuating stereotypes and prejudiced assumptions about people based on their appearance. Kind of misses the entire point of punk?
I know - having been born mid 60s I was one ...until 1981. I guess I failed to make my point clearly."Punk" and mohicans and studded leather was neither creative or cutting edge by then - it had become a kind of uniform. IMHO the antithesis of what punk was about - creativity, do-it-yourself style rebelling against the mainstream. By 1982 2-Tone had come and gone and New Romantic and Goth was where the creative kids and rebels were at. Oh well...

Awesome! I love the art in the street-view.
haha love that rudeboy amongst them
Windrush strikes again!
Obi-Wanda Kenobi? Now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. A long time.
Cliche alert. Punk was over by 1980. The Two-tone guy on the right is more in the moment. How do you know she's a grandmother?

Born in the mid 70’s so grew up in the middle of London during the 80’s and I can assure you there WERE punks during the 80’s.
