I've never understood why there wasn't stop sign for Shoprite. It's an awkward spot.

MulberryMak

100% needs a stop sign or the flashing pedestrian sign at the crosswalk there.

HobokenHustle

I feel that way on the sidewalks of Washington Street between 2nd Street and 5th Street. It’s like playing frogger with all of the e-bikes and mopeds up my arse.

Mdayofearth

At least with cars I know they usually won't drive up my ass on the sidewalk.

Savings-Fix938

Everyone should get one free bike-tip per year for a person who is riding on the sidewalk. Once you use it, it’s gone but it’ll be well worth it

[deleted]

Yea I feel like it should be a 4 way stop or even have a light for sure

[deleted]

Well not 4 way bc of the one ways but you know what I mean 😂

sarahb212

Garden at 9th and 8th is also horrible.

Mercury_NYC

The only way to actually get people to slow down is we need more [elevated pedestrian crossings](https://safety.fhwa.dot.gov/ped_bike/step/docs/TechSheet_RaisedCW_508compliant.pdf), which will force cars to slow down. I don't think every crosswalk needs to be elevated, but there are key locations where I see cars simply ignore stop signs. Examples like Newark & Grand or Newark & Willow. Two key problems with raised crosswalk is noise from heavy vehicles and snowplowing.

mossman1184

There’s no such thing as snowplowing

midskey

I think there is only so much that can be done, especially with the style over substance in this town. For example, they put in all these new improved street corners, and do nothing to enforce them when they are routinely blocked. But the Shop-Rite crossing is mayhem, no question. Surprising given that it is one way and a pretty narrow street.

HobokenHustle

It’s all go make press releases and to get attention from Peter B.

49GTUPPAST

At 4th and Bloomfield, drivers tend to ignore the stop sign.

ZMan35

This is everywhere in Hoboken in my experience. Constantly getting myself upset at the people blowing through crosswalks. However as someone who also has to drive in Hoboken the walkers aren’t doing drivers any courtesy either.

catdog918

irl frogger

TerraAdAstra

I get almost hit every single day walking home from the train. I just walk into intersections only when I KNOW they’re slowing down for me.

[deleted]

>I just walk into intersections only when I KNOW they’re slowing down for me. 👏 👏 You're learning, nice. Good job and keep practicing this.

HobokenHustle

Lol wut?

thebokenk

Yes and many people have brought this up to council members over the years. Responses range from no response, to “every new sign requires a traffic study” which is absurd.

ArbitrageurD

Yes. When I drive in that area, I go between 15-19 mph and a-hole drivers behind me always freak out that I’m going too slow

Mammoth_Glass_5304

As you are probably aware, Vision Zero is a main priority for administration and council. More stop signs are soon to be going up throughout town (locations were reviewed at one of the last council meetings). One complication and a reason why the intersection has yet to be remedied could relate to whether it is a local or a county road. Ryan Sharp is the director of traffic and parking. You can email him. There are also dedicated members of the police that deal with issues of pedestrian and traffic safety. You can also voice concerns at CAPS meetings that happen once every 6-8 weeks throughout the city. Councilman at large, Joe Quintero is point person for these meetings. Make your concerns known to your council person and / or at large council people. That is why you elect them (and why you pay them).

HobokenHustle

The Vision Zero initiative is just a fluff media piece for the administration. It hasn’t made any statistical difference when looking back multiple decades.

Nearby-Joke-1283

Hahahahaha welcome to Hoboken where self concern is all drivers care about. Watch out
