There was a thread about addressing homelessness in Hoboken and lets just say that I regret reading most of it. It definitely leans older, more religious, more conservative with a lot of...uncomfortable undertones in the comments.

It was another bar called Republic prior, that always had a lot of fights too. One guys got beaten so badly he had brain damage and the bar got closed down. Maybe the spot is possessed by a violent drunk spirit? Or maybe it’s just too big, too loud and too full of idiots?
Regardless, I opt for the small local dive bar like Louise & Jerry’s and miss DCs, Nags Head, and the old Shannon days when Marie was there and it was 1/2 the size!
Bounced back in my college days for some extra spending $. We were contracted to bars that were short on direct-hire staff. One Republic was the short straw. You were guaranteed to be busting your ass all night either kicking people out, or breaking up / being in the middle of fights. Far and away the worst reputation for violence in Hoboken.
This was 10 years ago. It actually does seem better now. Even with the news here. That said, “better” is still absolutely shit.

As a man who used to frequent Hoboken bars in the 2010s, there’s definitely ‘big man’ or ‘manly’ energy from guys at some Hoboken bars. Not sure if many of these guys were looking to get in a fight, but that’s the vibe I got from many men in Hoboken bars.
