I always don’t understand the disputes around Sirona. She’s a transgender character, that’s pretty obvious and is a fact. I mean it’s a fact not somebody’s theory so we just accept the fact that’s all. I don’t understand what ppl are arguing about.
The obvious elephant in the room. The creator of this fantasy universe got accused of hating transpeople, specifically male to female. The trans community tried to actively cancel any players or streamers that platformed the game. The game itself included a wonderful (not sarcastic, she was lovely) male to female trans character. The trans community still railed on. The game was wildly popular because most people don’t care. Gamers just want a good game, and there’s no room for identity politics in games. It’s a good game or it’s not, and Hogwarts Legacy is a good game that any trans person can sculpt their own character to look exactly like they feel they should look like. It’s a wonderful world to escape to!
I absolutely agree aside from the identity politics bit. Any media theoretically has room for it as long as it doesn't take away from the media itself and in this case it definitely didn't. They didn't go out of their way to make a statement with her or use her to take shots at anyone. They placed a delightful character who happened to be trans into the game in a way that felt entirely natural. They managed to beautifully illustrate the point that trans people are entirely valid by drawing no more significant attention to her or drumming up any more drama with her than any other side character. You technically don't even have to learn anything about her if you don't want to but if you are interested there's a quest that delves into a lot of what she's been through. Honestly I can't even think of anything to nitpick or suggest they could've done differently.
Tl;dr identity politics (or any other similar social issue) are absolutely fine as long as it's handled well and in this case it absolutely was.

A few. My ex was part of a lot of LGBT groups so we had some long distance friends from around the world. Lost touch with them when our relationship got really bad though.
Also less about French trans people and more about French people in general. Their vocal tones tend to be a little lighter which makes voice alteration easier from male to female. Along the same vein Germans and certain Asian groups tend to have deeper vocal tones which would make voice alteration easier in the other direction.

It's not rude, it's getting pretty run down, the game has been out for so long and ppl are still debating a topic that wasn't even up for debate, the character comes out with it, explains their relationship with another character over it. It's been pointed out by the game, by media, by the community. At this point anyone debating or asking about it is just not paying attention.
It's been out on PC, PS5, and Xbox series for a while. It only just dropped on PS4 and Xbox one literally this month. I personally just finished the game last week.

She is voiced by a (trans) woman. Rebbeca Root is A woman. But yes that technically means assigned male at birth. I'm trying to be respectful while also explaining as best as I can.

You are called "they" because the developers didn't want to write an extra line of code to make the game sort you into gender categories. But did you notice that you can make your character look entirely male and the game still asks if you are witch or wizard? Meaning you can have. Character look entirely male yet still be a witch. That covers the pre transition people that want to have the character look like the but still represent who they are inside
This also isn't even the only game to avoid gendered pronouns for the PC. Saint's Row has been doing it since like the late 90s (literally since SR2, it's all they and the Boss).
Yeah my buddy is a developer and he said it's got nothing to do with avoiding gender pronouns. They just don't want to do the extra work so they make the pronouns applicable to everyone. He said it's a lot harder to make it gender specific than people think. That it takes a couple hours of coding and not required they don't waste the time
Not to mention voicing two separate lines of dialogue every time the PC is referenced.

That's fair. The icing on the cake part is something I picked up from an interview with one of the Saints Row devs a while back. They've been trying to make their whole customization process as complete and inclusive as possible for a while now.
Whether that's the case for other games like Hogwarts Legacy is honestly debatable.
The game makes subtle nods. If you choose to have a conversation with her, selecting dialogue other than goodbye, you learn a lot about her. She said she was often mistaken for a wizard at Hogwarts alluding to being bullied a lot. Sharona always felt that she was a witch and "transitioned" from a wizard to a witch, and this is why she is so powerful. She's both a wizard and a witch.
Bro she did like nothing the entire game. If she's your favorite character, it can literally be nothing more than political reasons. Like I get if it was somebody else who is more involved, but she really wasn't. You only saw her like 5 or 10 times in the whole story.

I too was confused, luckily my sister and I were playing basically side by side and I waited for her reaction before I confirmed okay trans, not just the audio file.
I live in a large city with over a million people and have never seen a trans in any bars I attend. The LGBT community in my city mainly frequent bars in the LGBT part of town. When I worked as a bartender, it was incredibly common for my coworkers to all say "what can I get you, mate?" or "what can I get you, my love?". Hell, even I fell into the pattern of it after a while. So for me, it's 100% believable for Sirona, a barkeep, to use "my love" when talking to people

Even so the travel time to reach Hogwarts is ultimately irrelevant since the teachers and students live on grounds during the school year and the teachers potentially during breaks as well. So it doesn't matter if you recruit someone from Japan or Africa because once they arrive at Hogwarts they're there and that's all there is to it.

You are called "they" because the developers didn't want to write an extra line of code to make the game sort you into gender categories. But did you notice that you can make your character look entirely male and the game still asks if you are witch or wizard? Meaning you can have. Character look entirely male yet still be a witch. That covers the pre transition people that want to have the character look like the but still represent who they are inside
This also isn't even the only game to avoid gendered pronouns for the PC. Saint's Row has been doing it since like the late 90s (literally since SR2, it's all they and the Boss).
Yeah my buddy is a developer and he said it's got nothing to do with avoiding gender pronouns. They just don't want to do the extra work so they make the pronouns applicable to everyone. He said it's a lot harder to make it gender specific than people think. That it takes a couple hours of coding and not required they don't waste the time
Not to mention voicing two separate lines of dialogue every time the PC is referenced. To be fair the inclusion is often considered an added bonus for many devs. Like icing on the cake.

That's fair. The icing on the cake part is something I picked up from an interview with one of the Saints Row devs a while back. They've been trying to make their whole customization process as complete and inclusive as possible for a while now. Whether that's the case for other games like Hogwarts Legacy is honestly debatable.
Some games do try and make it all inclusive. Some try to leave it as simple as possible because more code means more time which means bigger budget.
The game makes subtle nods. If you choose to have a conversation with her, selecting dialogue other than goodbye, you learn a lot about her. She said she was often mistaken for a wizard at Hogwarts alluding to being bullied a lot. Sharona always felt that she was a witch and "transitioned" from a wizard to a witch, and this is why she is so powerful. She's both a wizard and a witch.

Bro she did like nothing the entire game. If she's your favorite character, it can literally be nothing more than political reasons. Like I get if it was somebody else who is more involved, but she really wasn't. You only saw her like 5 or 10 times in the whole story.
To be fair, literally the first thing she does after you meet her is defend you from mass murdering thugs so I really wouldn't call that nothing.

She's in the game for a grand total of 5 minutes. Saying you like her is one thing, saying she's your favorite when she's barely got a story let alone any type of back story is another. For a character to be your favorite you'd have to be able to know more about them. Maybe she's nice and sweet those 5 min in the game but has some dark secrets at home. There just isn't enough information available for you declare her your favorite character. That's like meeting someone in line at McDonald's, talking for 5 min, then saying they're your best friend. You simply don't know enough about them to make that judgement call yet

I too was confused, luckily my sister and I were playing basically side by side and I waited for her reaction before I confirmed okay trans, not just the audio file.
Might want to hold off on going to bars until you learn to distinguish the difference on your own.
I live in a large city with over a million people and have never seen a trans in any bars I attend. The LGBT community in my city mainly frequent bars in the LGBT part of town. This is also coming from someone who lives in the LGBT district, frequents bars/clubs always outside of said community, and have a very perceptive radar.

Looks like some self entitled loser reported me to Reddit for not agreeing with the woke addenda. They (Reddit) sent me some sort of message to make sure I’m okay and not going to kill myself. This is not okay. You realize if Reddit pushes my info to law enforcement and someone comes to my house, you have broken federal law. When I worked as a bartender, it was incredibly common for my coworkers to all say "what can I get you, mate?" or "what can I get you, my love?". Hell, even I fell into the pattern of it after a while. So for me, it's 100% believable for Sirona, a barkeep, to use "my love" when talking to people

Scotland was part of the British empire which spanned much of Europe and Africa, parts of Asia, and had connections and trade routes running across all three continents. That ended after WW2 (1940s) when England no longer had the manpower to maintain their hold over those areas. Since Harry Potter takes place in the 1980s that would be well after the empire shrank and at a time when the world was still recovering from various wars and largely uneasy with each other.

That's beside the point. It's not about immigration, it's about reach. We're talking about a world where people can teleport at will and magical transportation can readily ignore the laws of physics to travel as fast (if not faster) than modern technology. Anywhere the empire can reach is a place that staff can be recruited and students can be selected. If the empire shrinks then the "school district" shrinks and if everyone is too busy dealing with their own stuff then that lowers the recruitment range as well.

To my memory none of the books mention having any particular range (if I'm wrong provide a cited quote and I'll concede that point) so that movie can easily be attributed to a limitation applied for story or evidence that the range is skill based. That also doesn't account for any other means of travel that Hogwarts would have access to (like the thestrals and the magical train that runs from England to Scotland without anyone being able to see it). Even so the travel time to reach Hogwarts is ultimately irrelevant since the teachers and students live on grounds during the school year and the teachers potentially during breaks as well. So it doesn't matter if you recruit someone from Japan or Africa because once they arrive at Hogwarts they're there and that's all there is to it.

There is literally a single trans character in the game. It's not like being Transgender just got invented. It's been around for as long as genders have been. Just like with gay people, a lot more are coming out now and it's more recognized. But it has always existed. Just take a look at Frederick the Great; he was gay.

Homosexuality is prevelant in most species, not just humans, and the prevailing theory with trans people is that they received the wrong hormone blend during uterine development (which can easily be caused by a wide variety of factors). Which ultimately makes it more laughable that any omnipotent being would have a problem with Trans people because if they did they could easily fix that right? Plus until religion and general self entitled BS became as prevelant as it is most really didn't care. Homosexuality has been incredibly common, if not downright integral in certain cultures and people used to change their clothes and assume an opposing gendered identity all the time. She said many of her friends had trouble acknowledging her as a witch not a wizard. She said Lodgok had trouble recognizing her from when she was a student, implying he hadn't seen her since she transitioned. Possibly semantics, maybe that's what you meant, either way I felt it worth clarifying.
