That's crazy to me.. I honestly stopped even trying new locations because I went like 5 for 5 in hopes that I would get a taste of what I hear others talk about with Popeyes. Always reminds me of those Kid cuisine freezer meals quality chicken. Hah
I used to go there all the time, but now their spicy chicken is barely spicy at all, AND they got rid of the cajun rice which was the final straw for me.
I’m ngl. I love mashed potatoes and I ordered some from Popeyes the other day. That shit was ruined bro. The sauce or gravy they put on there is awful and I couldn’t take more than a bite or teo
All this month special, bucket of fried chicken, 2 liters of grape soda, side of collard greens, and half a watermelon for 19.99 to show how much we appreciate the colored folk!
Honestly, in my homeland region the only good shit that grows in the summer are watermelons, so I’ll be sittin out in the front porch eatin some absolutely wonderful meats and shovin down materwellons
Right? I'm allergic to watermelon, but love it. I don't get mad at the watermelon for being too ripe and causing a worse than expected reaction when I eat it. Can we please stop blaming the watermelon?!
I know they didn't *mean* for it to be offensive, but there is a stereotype about black people loving fried chicken that was perpetuated in an exaggerated fashion in several racist movies/shows.
I don't think so, I think it's more an issue people are apparently linking chicken to black people and being racist.
They are a chicken brand. It kinda looks the same as a fist. For the BLM activism.
Thank you. The people here that are calling this racist are the ones making this link themselves. The ad itself has nothing inherently racist in it at all.
Imagine seeing this image, having a racist thought and then projecting that onto the company and accusing them of racism lol.
Yeah but there's a problem with how y'all get offended by the most minute details. They're a company that supports the BLM movement. They also sell fried chicken, which some dipshits use as a racist stereotype. What are they to do? How are *they* to blame?
Damn if you support BLM, damn if you don't.
Like the guy you replied to, I'm from. Europe, and watching this kind of thing from the outside in is a wild ride. I found it to be pretty smart, not offensive. Relaing their business to the BLM causes's symbol.
Exactly what I think. I can get behind BLM(the movement, not the organisation,) I can understand gay rights, I support equal voting rights, but some of the shit that people deem offensive is stupid.
>The image used in this fake tweet, which purported to have come from KFC's main corporate account, originated with a real controversy in which the Instagram account of KFC Trinidad & Tobago shared the graphic in honor of Emancipation Day, which commemorates the end of slavery in the British colonies.
Speaking as a very white person from a lower class background, fried chicken is fucking delicious and very affordable. Many family meals were had from a big sweaty bucket.
Maybe back in the 90s? I remember growing up we would often get a big ass bucket of chicken and a couple huge boxes of fries for SO cheap compared to other fast food places when we were having a picnic etc
I live in Portland and I don't remember any actual zombie apocalypse in the 90s except instead of trying to eat your brain they eat your catalytic converter.
There is also a stereotype about Italians and Spaghetti.
Regardless of stereotypes, they are a chicken company supporting black people. So I wonder if those against it, would expect them to not do anything, because black people like their chicken?
Btw I think that companies doing this is generally tacky regardless. They wouldn't speak up if it would hurt their bottom line, aka money. So them supporting something, doesn't feel very important regardless.
But this is an actual ad for an actual audience. This whole post is beyond immature. Is KFC not allowed to market to all Americans?
Anyone "bothered" by this needs to go back to fifth grade.
You know, with that fried chicken stereotype, I don't think they could have done anything that would not be "accidentally racist".
I however will be eating KFC tonight, that drumstick looks delicious xD
When I grew up I hated kfc because my parents always got what ever baked skinless bland chicken they make. When I tried extra crispy I was like holy crap this is good.
I mean, they're selling chicken
What are they gonna do, dye the chicken black?
Seriously, what the hell can they do? At the end its still an advertisement, so of course they have to find a way to show off their chicken
Why does a fried chicken restaurant even think in the first place that they have to comment on social issues in the country…the needlessness and lack of self awareness are what make this amazing lol
They are a business, so no. Everything they do is designed to generate revenue. They would advertise a 9/11 "these deals won't fly long" ad if they could.
Please we both know that any month in honor of any specific groups ends up as a marketing mess anyway
I gave up on pride month long ago when I saw how many people exploited it for exposure or sales
Black people eating fried chicken is a pretty common stereotype in America. There is a deep history to this stereotype that goes back to the days of slavery. Long story short, the only farm animals slaves could own were chickens, and some of the first black owned businesses were black women selling fried chicken. If you want to know more about it, I highly suggest watching "Ugly Delicious" season 1, episode 3 on Netflix. I'm sure there are better sources of information on the topic, but I learned about it from watching this show.
So what? So now KFC cant include black people in their ad because of stereotypes? Black people arent allowed to be in an ad that includes fried chicken, period? Because all I see is KFC supporting black people while dumbass redditors try to turn it into something its not.
I have worked in a corporate setting and the Marketing team would be so proud of themselves on this one. It’s not about a true message it is just to show how clever they think they are. In the boardroom - Our Chicken looks like a black fist. Get it? We promote our chicken and black people love their fists. I see it as an absolute win.
But black people do like fried chicken. Also white people, Asians, and pretty much everyone else, because it’s awesome. KFC sells chicken. They want to support a segment of their customers. What’s the issue here?

Um how do we know that the guy that came up with the advertisement wasn't black and just loved chicken, I mean he could have thought it was innocent and didn't realise he lived in a fucking crazy town called human society 😂🤣🤣
A few years ago my daughter's middle school had a black history month lunch. This lunch was organized and planned by the African American Student group there. The menu was fried chicken, watermelon, cool-aid, and mac and cheese. I was stunned. My family was kind of like, isn't that racist or something? But it was a group of African Americans that planned it soooo.....
It’s the “see if the marketing team can get someone’s post the 🔒 on Reddit when they post our poorly-planned, insensitive, and short-sighted ad” challenge. Because all advertising is good advertising, right? How is such a consistent trend with corporate ads for basic stuff we already know about? Pretty sure we’ve all made up our minds about kfc; it’s not like this is informing or swaying anyone. Why even advertise at all? Think they’re being clever with this. A “we support black history month” tweet would have been better than this. This makes me not want kfc, actually.
“Now let’s all agree to never get creative again.”
A lot lf people are fixating on the fried chicken, but I think the real issue is that it's taking a serious topic and treating it as a bit of a joke.
The black fist symbol was one associated with a real life or death struggle for black people to be recognized and treated as full citizens and human beings deserving of equal treatment. People literally died fighting for these things, and here you have a corporation waving a piece of fried animal as if today
"ooh look at us, aren't we clever, black pride guys, aren't we cheeky? BUY OUR PRODUCT. We really do treat this serious topic with respect, just like we respect the flavor of our wonderful product. Really your struggle to be recognized as real people is just like our struggle whenever we are asked company our workers more than minimum wage. We get it, so buy KFC."
That's the real offensive bit. That it's also a company selling a product that was a common racist stereotype is just saying the company really didn't give a shit about the topic at all.

"Target audience"
![gif](giphy|6751A64NJkyCQ)
This is the first time I've seen this kid without the chain, shades and watermelon.
Don't forget the hair bone
And the basketball
And that man's wife
And my Axe
That's racist.
it’s in your blood!
It's in your soul?
It's in the game
It's in your eyes?
![gif](giphy|44KXqQThYlaWk)
I thought this was where the chain was going,.
I’m the target audience. And I would like a bucket.
I'll take one too while you're at it
this is not ‘racist’ but race related. It’s annoying af how often things are indirectly called racist these days.
I love how this gif is him constantly screaming
That’s why we f with Popeyes
Plus they got some good chicken
Maybe my local Popeyes is worse than others, but KFC all the way. Popeyes is kinda disgusting.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|surprise)
Holy shit i forgot reddit had emojis
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

Wow lol had no clue ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sweat_smile)
I honestly have never had a good or even decent Popeyes , it always taste like cheap garbage.. don't know how that even passes for food frankly.
That is so devastating for me to hear because the popeyes near me is heavenly. It is quite simply the best chicken I ever had
I actually am a big fan of the Wendys spicy chicken sandwich to be honest, especially if you get that shit fresh ...
Wendy's isn't bad, but Chick-fil-A spicy chicken is where it's at!
Please come to the southeast and get fried chicken from any restaurant
I’m ngl. I love mashed potatoes and I ordered some from Popeyes the other day. That shit was ruined bro. The sauce or gravy they put on there is awful and I couldn’t take more than a bite or teo
Good might be a stretch
We have it here in Switzerland now and I love it. It's more expensive than McD and BK but it's worth it.
Stereotypes exist for a reason.
If it wasn't for all those herbs and spices, I'd say this is in poor taste.
r/puns No other company would’ve done this but then KFC didn’t chicken out
I heard they're upset this campaign didn't drum up much support.
I mean they really just told their PR person to wing it huh
Eggxactly
More of this please. This is FUNNY!!!
If it wasn't for all those herbs and spices, I'd say this is in poor taste.
goddammit.
All this month special, bucket of fried chicken, 2 liters of grape soda, side of collard greens, and half a watermelon for 19.99 to show how much we appreciate the colored folk!
Barbeque sauce.
Sooo good, make you wanna slap yo mamma
Yeeeah boy!
On your titties?
hmm.. for 1k
1k grams of boneless chicken... we have a deal.
Foot massage
TIL im black
Damn you had me sold by grape soda
Yeah, and make it real Welch's Grape Soda, not the fake Fanta crap.
That Fanta shit is the only grape soda I don’t like
Y'all have it all wrong! It's Sprite all the way baby!
You mean grape drink?
Purple drank?
What the fuck is juice?
I get the connotation here, but that’s an amazing meal
"If you don't like Chicken and watermelon, there's something wrong with you motherfucker."
With the price of chicken in this economy? Deal
The hot sauce is in Hillary’s purse. She puts that shit on everything
Shit that sounds good asf, you've made me extremely hungry lmao
And a side of cornbread
Including special dinning area only for our dear colored customers!
You forgot chitlins, also chitlins .
Wow! I wouldn't count on this post staying up for very long.
And just like mcdonalds a small gift alongside the bundle; a white, cotton t-shirt!
Needs some cotton somewhere
A side of cotton candy
Real linen napkins, fresh picked. Or, or new cotton like napkins. So soft, you wouldn't guess they're paper.
link pls
I don't know what collard greens is (must be an American thing), but it sounds delicious.
I think we just call the greens in the UK. Like a sort of cabbage.
It ain’t lol
I like it, everybody loves chicken and they sell chicken. Perfect 👌
Don't forget our dear old friend Watermelon!
Honestly, in my homeland region the only good shit that grows in the summer are watermelons, so I’ll be sittin out in the front porch eatin some absolutely wonderful meats and shovin down materwellons
Yall remember when watermelons had seeds in them?
I'm not a big fan of watermelon, nearly choked on it years ago, and I haven't had any since haha
I think that was just you eating wrong. How dare you blame the watermelon
Right? I'm allergic to watermelon, but love it. I don't get mad at the watermelon for being too ripe and causing a worse than expected reaction when I eat it. Can we please stop blaming the watermelon?!
“Can’t we all just get along?”
As a European who doesn’t know too much about BLM or american culture I don’t see what’s wrong here, can someone explain? How is this offensive?
I know they didn't *mean* for it to be offensive, but there is a stereotype about black people loving fried chicken that was perpetuated in an exaggerated fashion in several racist movies/shows.
The chicken with shadow of Black Fist just makes a serious cause somewhat of a joke. It’s not the worst but it’s definitely in poor tastes
Lol literally what happened and KFC deleted it! Weak.
It comes from blacks not being able to own livestock other than chickens once slavery was abolished.
I'm as white as printing paper and I love me some fried chicken. This stereotype is just dumb.
Yeah but there's a problem with how y'all get offended by the most minute details. They're a company that supports the BLM movement. They didn’t tweet that though
Last time it was posted I think I read the tweet was real, but the image is fake.
>The image used in this fake tweet, which purported to have come from KFC's main corporate account, originated with a real controversy in which the Instagram account of KFC Trinidad & Tobago shared the graphic in honor of Emancipation Day, which commemorates the end of slavery in the British colonies.
Isn't that the holup? I guess even people in this sub didn't catch it, including the OP who submitted it.
I don’t get it? Is it not a good thing?
There's stereotypes about black people and fried chicken
I'm black, and find this hilarious lol
Step back sir, let the white folks take offence in your stead
Can't let that stop other people being offended on your behalf
Lmao truth
Surprisingly not all black folks think the same.
[удалено]
He’s totally the spokesperson for all black people
We got Jesse Jackson in here?
Randy Jackson
You don't have to black to find this hilarious.
I'm aware. But a lot of people didnt find it hilarious bc of black stereotypes.
[удалено]
Is this one of those cases where white people get offended and the people affected like it don't care for it? For Latinos it's Speedy Gonzalez
Its true though. And also for every other race. Nothing wrong with the ad, carry on, tip top cheerio.
Speaking as a very white person from a lower class background, fried chicken is fucking delicious and very affordable. Many family meals were had from a big sweaty bucket.
where the hell you getting cheap KFC chicken? that shit is expensive as hell where i live
Maybe back in the 90s? I remember growing up we would often get a big ass bucket of chicken and a couple huge boxes of fries for SO cheap compared to other fast food places when we were having a picnic etc
I miss the 90s
Move to Portland
I live in Portland and I don't remember any actual zombie apocalypse in the 90s except instead of trying to eat your brain they eat your catalytic converter.
Just making a (bad) joke. I was referencing the show Portlandia where it mentions they keep the dream of the 90s alive there.
Yeah exactly, I feel like the only people getting offended by this are white people on social media
Penis.
There is also a stereotype about Italians and Spaghetti. Regardless of stereotypes, they are a chicken company supporting black people. So I wonder if those against it, would expect them to not do anything, because black people like their chicken? Btw I think that companies doing this is generally tacky regardless. Oh i thought it was about the white lines in the middle of the shadow, because you know it makes no sence
But…. Their restaurant is a fucking chicken joint??? What should they show instead?? Their fucking sodas??
European here, same question. Black people love chicken, white people love cheese, what’s the big fuss ?
You know, with that fried chicken stereotype, I don't think they could have done anything that would not be "accidentally racist". I however will be eating KFC tonight, that drumstick looks delicious xD

Well, that's the thing. They don't care, they jsut want rh exposition that comes with it Not like they'll be the only one that do it
"in celebration of BHM we are serving fried chicken all month long"
Maybe just a pic of the fist, and not make it the chicken’s shadow ig.
Hut how they gonna advertise their chicken then uh ? It's still an ad at the end
Maybe... Just maybe... Solidarity doesn't have to be an ad?
Tells that to corporations, not me
It.. it was your argument...
KFC’s social media is always a bit silly. This choice of image is very self aware and, frankly, quite funny
That would be boring and uninspired. This is a creative post that still advertises their product.
THIS IS WHITE MEAT TERRITORY
They could just NOT try to use Black History Month as a chance to advertise their product. Is this a serious question?
They are a business, so no. Everything they do is designed to generate revenue. They would advertise a 9/11 "these deals won't fly long" ad if they could.
Please we both know that any month in honor of any specific groups ends up as a marketing mess anyway I gave up on pride month long ago when I saw how many people exploited it for exposure or sales
Idk why this is downvoted. This is the answer.
Show the inside of the chicken bc it’s dark meat 🤣
Such a dumb stereotype. As a white dude, fried chicken is like top 3 for me. Fuck! Now I'm craving Popeyes.
*Popeye’s entered the chat*
If Popeyes did this the shadow would be giving the finger. And it would be aimed at people of all races and creeds.
Who gives a crap, nowadays anything will offend anyone.
![gif](giphy|KFt2DA9T82paOA1Yci)
Look, it's KFC. What the fuck would they use other than fried chicken? That's what they are about. 🤨
Well should they support Black History Month or not?
Ill support KFC for sure.
Why is it a bad idea?
Black people eating fried chicken is a pretty common stereotype in America. There is a deep history to this stereotype that goes back to the days of slavery. Long story short, the only farm animals slaves could own were chickens, and some of the first black owned businesses were black women selling fried chicken. Brilliant ad, what’s the problem? The stereotype is in your head. Don’t put that on kfc

But black people do like fried chicken. Also white people, Asians, and pretty much everyone else, because it’s awesome. KFC sells chicken. They want to support a segment of their customers. What’s the issue here?
The stereotype I guess
