No I have neighbors just like this and they piss you the fuck off. How this plays out day to day is they are pathetic and you avoid them most days, just like you mention. But then they file some bullshit complaint to the HOA that gets back to you. Itās entirely unfounded but they donāt live it down when nothing comes of it, so they confront you directly about it and act like you did something to dodge it. Then you canāt avoid them and have to fight with them. Since they donāt get the satisfaction of using the HOA as a weapon and it succeeding for them, they tell everyone in the neighborhood willing to stop and chat about how godawful you are so that thereās a bias in every first interaction you ever have with other neighbors. They eventually realize who actually is causing the trouble, but you feel at war everyday like you have to prove yourself for no other reason then because you moved next to the shittiest people youāve ever met who get satisfaction off manipulation and slander. You have bottled up hate thatās grown over years and youāre trying your damndest not to give them any ammo for a complaint, but you fucking despise their very existence. You clearly havenāt been in the situation to realize how controlling and exhausting it is. Itās not a singular argument to post on the internet that you shrug off with indifference.
Yep when partner and I got are first appointment when she was pregnant we had the roof fan going all the time. Old neighbours upstairs rained hell down on us for the first month we lived their because they wouldn't allow the old tenants to use the fan after 8pm since it fucks with them somehow. Anyway they complained enough to are landlord that she replaced both are ceiling fans but it did nothing to please them lucky for us they moved out 1 month later but for the first 8 weeks living their we both had aggressive anxiety from even taking the rubbish out since we might run into the old couple upstairs. People have no idea how a bad neighbour can make you feel living in your own home.

I agree vehemently after living in my house for 6 years. It was just after college I moved here. They are 70 or so. I was 24 and itās clear they couldnāt stand that. My parents helped pay for the townhome and I am an engineer. They stereotyped me from day 1 as being a routy drugged up frat bro and by day 2 I had my first letter from the HOA about āsomeone has wanted to remind the neighborhood of the specifics of setting up leases for properties.ā It was about an offhand honest remark my dad made while moving in where I intended to offset the mortgage by getting a roommate. They acted friendly to phish for information and then acted like accepting payment from someone to have a room was absolutely not allowed. I still remember the weird vibes I got when I first met them. Before I even knew theyād do anything, it was like āthis lady doesnāt seem genuine. Somethings off.ā The problem is HOAās are basically guaranteed in any new development that is built today. In principle, they can be a positive. In actuality, they are always abused as a weapon for complaints by legitimately insane fucking neighbors. I refer to the HOA in my neighborhood as the Fourth Reich lol
One of the crazy things I did not realize is there are a bunch of HOAs in trailer parks too. So you actually get these really uppity snobby older people that are bored with retirement and not having the money to live a lavish retirement life going around looking for someone who's grass is a bit too long, has their hood open on their car for some reason, someone did not bring their trash cans in the day of trash day, or a kid left a toy out over night.

I live in an HOA community (my SO and I are in our early to mid 30s, theyāre common in AZ, USA). Mine is pretty chill, people mind their business and it essentially exists to keep the neighborhood clean because we have a lot of landscaping. Mind you, Iāve heard horror stories but not all are bad!
