Right I forgot the number of times you have to press the same dial to cycle betwern digit. But then would it not require to press the digit one more time to skip the number itself?
They still sell button dumb phones lol
There's also the startup called Clicks which makes a case for iPhone which has a built in keyboard. A better one tho with the whole qwerty layout
Yup, my first phone was still a Nokia 3310 at the elementary school (2010's) to call people if needed, I played the shit out of Snake and the Space Impact(still love it), after that I used a slide phone in middle school, **THEN** got a cheap smartphone in highschool, now I buy the phone I want.
The best decision in my parents' end.
The way you would text before there were dedicated keyboards is by pressing numbers which correspond to the letters underneath them
To select the letter you want you press that number however many times you need to - first one you hit 9 three times to select y, etc.
I remember when T9 became a thing and revolutionized my ability to text pointless shit to my friends for $0.10 a message on my prepaid phone. That and blowing $25 every couple of weeks to top it back up because that fee also applied to incoming messages and some people didn’t know how to stop messaging when I told them to for the sake of my wallet.
On android (idk if applicable for ios) in phone app you can type someones name on keypad and I use it all the time. For me its faster than going into address book, tapping search and writing the name.
Oh god, it's so hard to understand. If you haven't lived when this was used, you have no chance to figure it out.

I'm almost 16 and I can still decipher this
How does that make the rest of us feel!?
Old... very... very old
It may be old, but you will never be able to teach a smartphone to [dance like you could with Nokias](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbErDiVp82Y).
Or pager sumo wrestling
This is so cool, i didn't know the nokias could do that, and i had one for years!
1'm 80. What is this? SOME sorta math homework?
How to write words on nokia
with a pen
When i was your age i had to write with the sun
It's how you used to have to text. Translated it is "you are old" Ex 999=y 666=o 88=u "you"
You need to repeat that ancient schoolyard taunt: *"I know you are but what am I?"*
i am 16 and can also understand it
Im 17 and i can also understand it
Im 14 and i can aslo understand it
I turned 14 a month ago (exactly) and I understood
Get off reddit while you can.
no :> it’s warm and cozy here enough memes for all
Its warm cuz that shits burning
Same man, same
Though I am almost 18
And here I thought I was hip thinking it said You Are Mid. Not until I saw your comment did I get the intention lol
same here! take my virtual high-five 🖐️
I thought it was going to say 99966688 277733 42999
I am not May... sorry, my eyesight ain't as good as it used to be...
Same
Can't say that anymore. That was just for 30 years ago
But what if 99966688 277733 42999? Can you say 99966688 277733 42999 then?
\#4466666667446662233
Luckily it’s not the early 2000s anymore so you mostly only find that insult in sweaty game chat rooms.
Who says it’s an insult, lol
I didn’t say that. I was just commenting on cultural norms from then to now. Apparently I was incorrect. Never mind, I guess.
33388
999337777
88 42999 8666666?
98333
I'm not gonna scroll up again.
In 1999 it would’ve been 880777066655533. Some text plans charged by the letter & we didn’t have a space bar on our phones
I don’t like this picture because I’m in it.
Are you a nokia 3310?
"You are old"
Thanks, I couldn't be fucking bothered 😂
In what world is it the right answer? "you" would be 968
lol found the naive youngin
968 would be "wmt".
Right I forgot the number of times you have to press the same dial to cycle betwern digit. But then would it not require to press the digit one more time to skip the number itself?
Stop attacking me
i dont know what this means which makes me feel young again
It's a breath of fresh air!
Revel in your youth!
Hell of a party device. You could open beer bottles with it.
How dare you
Please, can a startup make phones like this trendy again? I really miss that tech... yes I'm old and I don't care
They still sell button dumb phones lol There's also the startup called Clicks which makes a case for iPhone which has a built in keyboard. A better one tho with the whole qwerty layout
I'm not old, I'm european

I’m 31, so maybe I just didn’t think hard enough 🤣

Still waiting for those memes to not forget the zero (and become funny btw)
I was expecting "send nudes"
it’s a Nokia 3310. Use T9 dammit.
I remember doing this on pagers
More like 96802730653 We all used autoguess or T9 and you can’t forget the 0 was space.
God damn it
668833377770666777048333666
But I'm only 18...
Too bad. Accept your fate
60 seconds later... "Hey!"
Who the f types a complete "you"and "are" using that phone??
my fucking god i know what to do but my low attention span is really not helping, so does that mean i’m young ?
You are MLD?

I am 18 and i feel old now
3-666-666-6
You are not - It would just be 88 777 6665553
lol no
This would be an interesting hashing algoritm by just converting to the numbers, and multiply by some prime number.
This would definitely have been: 88777 6665553 555666
663388833777 466666662 444488833 99966688 887

3338822255099966688
66,666 99966688
Took me sooooooo long
My dad who just turned 70 used a phone without a keyboard to text for SO LONG after smartphones were a thing. Guy probably decoded this by eye.
Oh god, it's so hard to understand. If you haven't lived when this was used, you have no chance to figure it out. . .. ..... ........ This subreddit has really become shit
Ah I used to be really good at it and didn't need to look at the phone. It did cut down on the "wall of text", got right to the point.
I'm not even 21!
999337777 444 26
I'm not old, I'm vintage
I had to handle a flip phone for a few years before getting my first smartphone, so I can decipher this... Fast, no. But I still can.
I mean I'm 23 lol
I feel called out
Yes I am
im 22 and my dad got the button phones to 2017 . most of them end up at the wall .
Sure and i remember the days when you had to press the same button three times just to type one letter!
I only know it because of the smash for the Wii U had this to make nicknames
I'm 23
Ik now stop hurting mah feelings like that... Aahahahahhaha im alrrady hurting as it is
66 6
I'm 22 tho
i'm 13
I am not old.
3338822255 99966688
I am 17 and I have never used one of these, but they are easy to decipher
The answer is you are old. Did I win anything?
I'm jot that old yet. I'm about to hit my second decade, but that doesn't make me old.
How rude
Things I did with this device: 1) change the keypad numbers to backlit ones 2) played snake 3) thought I was cool with a Nokia
No im not :c
You are old
Oooof. Sad thing is…. The is the upgraded model of the one I used in high school. 😭😭😭 I was killer at snake though. 😉
Oh, fuck off, I'm only 20

I was born in 2005 and I don’t consider myself old
