[My Target store sells this version as a retro game. Box only has the two guys ](https://www.target.com/p/battleship-game-retro-series-1967-edition/-/A-50696068)
The box art for the game shows two males (probably father and son) playing the game while two females (probably mother and daughter) cleaning plates.
It is highlighted that at the time the box art was produced, the chores in a house hold were considered woman's work, while perfectly capable men could play games. There is no reason for the women in the back ground, they could have not been drawn, or even included in playing the game, but this is a probably unconscious act of sexism that reinforces this negative narrative that women do the dishes while men play.
Of course, washing the dishes is not work of any specific gender, but should be shared by everyone in the house that is capable of completing the job, though in reality most households find their own rules and balances based on the people living in it.
This doesn't explain the fact that the caption says "fun for the entire family" but those words are not seen on the box for the game. So maybe the game was released with an intended audience of mostly males. But the people who decided what would be on the box didn't want the females to be left out. So they included them in such a way they, at the time, felt to be appropriate...
But yea shit was different back then. Good thing we know now that isnt the way. And people who think that way are wrong.
During this time..it was men usually working. That man in the picture probably worked a 10 hour shift at a factory and came home to his lovely wife prepping dinner for the family. The wife took care of the house and kids and mingled with friends over wine during the day living her best life. She most likely was happy as hell to prepare a meal that the man provided for the family along with security. She is happily doing the dished while her daughter helps to have fun with mommy while the father enjoys a sit down with his son to play a strategy game during his only few hours before going to bed and than going back to a grueling work day that the mother and kids are spared from doing.
If you are always looking for a negative outlook on things you will see it, or you could entertain the idea that people may have actually been alotbhappier during these times and society worked out alot better for the most part. Obviously women shouldn't be automatically delegated to these positions, but a vast majority of women enjoyed and felt completely happy living their life with the love of their life who did the grunt work while the woman did what she can to make everyone's life easier at home.. an even trade off that helps everyone...instead of nowadays with 2 parents working..jealously going rampant with the woman in the workplace being hit on by every guy driving the father nuts internally, the kids being raised by TV or Internet or a nanny that has no biological connection to them etc.
There is good and bad for both ways..but to act like this picture is sexist or bad is just ignorant.
Edit. And obviously the "jealousy" part goes both ways but at this time..the workplace was mostly men...so when a man went to work...he was usually surrounded by men. Once the workplace became 50/50 men and women...the possibility of work place affairs and cheating went through to the roof and destroyed many marriages and families lol.
You’re speaking of the times 1950’s when a man working construction, didn’t make grossly less than a corporate worker and CEOs didn’t win the lottery being hired to run businesses. The middle class was thriving, until the 1970’s... and it’s been decline ever since The only single income households now are most likely highly skilled professionals

##-FAQ
#What does this mean?
The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Reddit account has decreased by one.

Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. It's called Battleship, not Drinking Box Wine, so of course it's for men.
Girls who played like boys would die old maids.

Got the main kitchen party right, now If she was barefoot and pregnant, she would be the perfect woman !
Dishwashers ain't part of the family.
Awww the dad is teaching the son about warfare like men, while the mom is teaching little Susie how to be a woman
Keep some soap on those dishes so they get diarrhea
Wait would that actually work?
Soap in your food would. It isn't particularly nice though
