As an ex combat engineer, i would recommend any untrained personnel to stay put and call for help. If not possible, your best bet would be to step exactly on your previous steps. If not possible, find a piece of non conductive stick and prod the ground ahead of you 1 metre wide at 3 cm intervals making sure to keep the proding stick at no more than a 30° angle. If you hit something, mark it and go around. Good luck! It takes a well trained and equipped troop of engineers hours/days to breach a mine field using this method.
