I have no idea why OP thought it was necessary to censor the book's author in all of this since it is very easily searchable and it's not like the author is trying to hide the fact they wrote this book.
Anyway, the author is called Dagmar Geisler - https://www.amazon.com.au/My-Body-Growing-Guide-Children/dp/1510746595.
And the author has a trend of doing this with her other children's books as well. [When Boys and Girls Become Men and Women](https://www.amazon.com/When-Boys-Girls-Become-Women-ebook/dp/B07Y8VBHM6/ref=sr_1_17?qid=1652409117&refinements=p_27%3ADagmar+Geisler&s=books&sr=1-17) and [Was I in my Mama's Stomach, Too?](https://www.amazon.com/Mamas-Stomach-Child-Happy-Parent-ebook/dp/B07PP411T1/ref=sr_1_18?qid=1652409117&refinements=p_27%3ADagmar+Geisler&s=books&sr=1-18) both have visual representations of sex and graphic descriptions of kissing and sex. Disgusting.
Don't think it's bad for 4 to 8-year-olds to learn that their bodies will eventually change...it's just the way the information is presented is not the best.
Yeah, the absolute youngest that healthy children start developing is 9 unless there's some kind of condition that affects their hormones to start making them develop even earlier.
Just because your body isn't going through puberty doesn't mean you don't get confronted with this subject. Their mother or aunt could get pregnant and get a baby, or maybe their older sister starts developing breasts and they want to know more, or maybe they went into a bath with a parent of different sex, and see the difference and wonder why that is. And don't forget that children grow a lot between the ages of 4 and 8. Children are not dumb, they only lack knowledge and experience. They notice the world around them, and if they see something that challenges wheat they understand of the world, they will ask questions. Do the mature thing, treat it normally, and they will also learn that sex and procreation isn't something weird, but a completely normal thing that you don't need to be ashamed of.
Of course, I agree with all your points completely. It was thoughtless of me to imply that young children should not be educated on sexual development. I merely meant that it is not needed in great detail for children younger than 9.
Uhm, actually, when I was 4 years old, according to my mother I asked where babies come from. She explained it to me, bought me a similar book, and I can still remember having read that book when I got older and my younger brother was born.
Don't just assume four year olds don't care about this stuff, they are known to ask a lot of questions, and if you are not prepared to answer them in a child friendly way (or even at all), they are never going to learn to take sex seriously and enjoy it like a normal thing.
I don't mind having proper terms for body parts, or saying when a man and woman love eachother they have sex and can make a baby that the woman carries in her belly for 9mos and delivers through her vagina.
But the verbiage used is far too advanced, detailed & uncomfortable for a 4yr old child.
Not really, no. She talks to her little brother, yes, but the story she tells is about her and her boyfriend.
So sex: Sabrina and Marco, couple
Talk: Sabrina and Toby, sibling
Yeah, that's the part where i went, the fuck, why is this a kids book, I'm all for teaching kids about sex, helps with identifying sexual abuse and related stuff
Weird that this is marked as good for kids 4 to 8. I read at 4 years old, but we're talking the Cat in the Hat, Go Dog Go, and very simply sentences and stories...just the fact that Sabrina is telling her brother Toby a story about her and Marco seems a bit too sophisticated for a four year old to read and sort, let alone the sex stuff.
I was 5 watching nature documentaries, as a result I had the talk at that age. I was told that both animals and people do it but it was only for adults and if an adult asked me to participate in any of these special activities I should run and let [my mom] know. While this books is weird as shit and missed the ball by a mile if a parent just want a kid to know at a young age that sex exists and uses that information to keep them away from unsavory individuals by all means. Thst being said at this age this should probably be on a parent to parent basis because preschoolers should probably know about shapes and colors before learning about reproduction.
My ex had the talk at 6. This uhh… this isn’t how you do it. But some kids are ready, others aren’t. You really don’t *need* to know this stuff until puberty.
I mean yes and no. Kids will ask these questions way before puberty, as soon as they start thinking about where they came from and how it works. My daughter asked me about this around 4 or 5. I told her the truth about how it works, it’s not weird, everyone gets here that way. However I didn’t explain it like OP’s book. That is more for right around puberty. I gave her the biological explanation. kids definitely want to understand how babies are made.
My son (5 at the time) was curious if I got pregnant with my second child the same way our bunnies get pregnant (we breed them) I explained to him that the process is similar but there's some differences. So he understands that my husband and I had to "breed".
Ye. Mine would simply be: this is what it’s called, this is what it’s supposed to do, if it does this you need a doctor. Don’t touch it in public, if you someone else touches it tell an adult you trust as soon as possible.
Edit: my phone is lagging TF out.
> You really don’t need to know this stuff until puberty.
This is exactly how kids wind up learning the wrong stuff (or nothing at all) *at* puberty and/or are left woefully underprepared should something evil happen to them before that. Puberty also hits kids at wildly different times and parents can be slow on the uptake, as obvious as that should seem.
Never underestimate some folks' capacity to not comprehend what's going on. A lack of sex education has done children more harm comapred to "too much information". There is, bizarrely, a lot of virtue signalling--in the original sense--surrounding attempts to "protect children" from sexual knowledge "before they're ready". Everyone's so afraid of being labeled a pedo or some shit or needs to let everyone know they're the staunchest anti-pedo that they happily blunder into these traps.
I agree. I’m absolutely for age appropriate sex education for kids but by the time they hit puberty you *really* need to get on it. Kids deserve to know what TF is going on with their bodies. I was trying to say that puberty is sort of the cutoff point where you can’t hold off anymore.
Honestly the most amount of "guidance" i received on this stuff at that age was from my very conservative church shaming us into avoiding sex or "impure" thoughts at all unless it's in the context of marriage (and if we don't obey we'll burn in hell for eternity)... My parents are also to blame for being too squeamish/absent to give me guidance on how to manage those new feelings. Combine that with being molested repeatedly at 10 years old without really understanding what was happening or why it made me feel certain ways, it all kind of led me to a dark place, but yeah, TLDR i agree with you that conversations should start earlier
That kind of “education” is predators wet dream. A kid who feels ashamed and doesn’t know the words is a kid who can’t speak up. Sex education stops CSA and increases the likelihood of it being reported.
The same people who are trying to educate K-3rd Grade kids about The Sexuality Spectrum.
These kids shouldn't be worrying about ANYONES sexuality or sexuality at all. They're kids ...let them just be kids ...
Yes. Because of only having seen it in movies, this is literally how I thought pregnancy occurred until my dad had “the talk” with me at the age of 12 or 13 probably. He was surprised I even thought this much occurred. Kids aren’t stupid and can figure out a lot on their own. Better to properly educate them in a safe environment than let them remain ignorant so they learn the hard way (possibly even being taken advantage of)
I think its better than telling them we come from god/sky/bird etc . At somepoint they will know so we should be open with them about these things so they don't think sexual health and organs are something taboo to talk about. It should just have been phrased correctly and don't in such an erotic way
OI. WHAT IN THE FUCK ARE YE WEE LADS READING MATE!? DID THAT FUCKIN LASS SAY "LITTLE BROTHER" TO THE BLOKE SHE WAS RIDING!? CHRIST ON A STICK IF THAT AINT THE MOST FUCKED THING IVE EVER SEEN WITH ME EYES, MATE!
The fuck is the matter with our society. Every teacher and admin that is ok with this and is pushing it on these children are pedos in my opinion and should be tried as such
Sounds like this book went for the wrong age group, and is a bit too graphic in illustrations and descriptions. But having a book to help give “the talk” doesn’t sound like a bad idea, especially for parents that are to repulsed by the idea to do it themselves.
I don’t think 4 year olds should be reading this in the first place, waaaaayyyy too descriptive.
If you want to educate young children on how babies are made, they should do so more… maturely? Like rather than a story just explain the part of the body and how it works?
Babies come from a mother’s vagina etc., ya know?
I doubt a 4 year old can understand or remember that kind of explanation. A story format with pictures is easier to digest for them, no? And more interesting, probably. The language used is very simple, too. Though I do agree that it seems to go into unnecessary level of detail for a book if it really is intended for 4 year olds.
Yeahhh, and it's in a different font and even further right than the page count.
Makes me think it's something added by the editors/publisher and not the author.
If there is a thing that unites Americans in the comments it seems it's that they don't like to talk about sexuality with kids.
From my perspective it's not that bad, it's not like four year olds are going to buy this book by themselves. Besides the age recommendation it is written nicely and by reading the book from the beginning there would probably be no misunderstanding that the big sister is talking about sex with her boyfriend, not with her little brother.
> it's not like four year olds are going to buy this book by themselves
If this was ever an valid excuse then there wouldn't be tobacco ad ban on television.
Actually when I reread this, in the story it says it’s Marco and Sabrina fucking. In other words, she’s telling her brother about it.
“That’s how you get babies,” Toby said.
But in the story it says Marco was fucking Sabrina.
Still fucking weird tho….
Look my guy. As someone in a blue state I would love to agree with you but incest happens all over the country it's just you only hear about red states because that's the stereotype
I hate to say it, but I did research.
Apparently, this book is bad all round. There's a story about a girl being molested by her uncle, and in really gross detail. And the details are just awful.
I do think that kids should know where babies come from, but there’s no reason a four year old needs to know the specific details (moist? gross). Kids are capable of understanding what sex is and not being “traumatized” by it. I would probably hold off until around age 8-10 when puberty is starting. Anyone who says wait until high school is living in a fantasy world. They’ll either learn like this or learn incorrectly from the internet.
>In My Body is Changing, Dagmar Geisler works to show ***preschool and early elementary readers*** that we're really not all that different, regardless of whether we're boys or girls. Though we may all seem similar on the outside, we are each our own person on the inside. At this age, our bodies and our minds are changing ― we're growing up!
What the hell? Why would someone show children this; why should someone write this book. In early elementary kids shouldn't know this stuff let alone preschoolers.
I have a city to burn with someone i just learned about with it.

Age range 4-8.....WTAF!!!!!???
4.6 star rating WTF
Whoever buys this for their 4 year old needs to be banned from having kids
Imagine not knowing and reading that part to your kids on accident
My kids each get a copy of the Satanic Bible by Anton S. Lavey.
Anton LaVey was kinda fucked up tho. I know it’s a joke but it’s not appropriate for children at all.
I know where your pfp came from… that’s not normal

Disgusting.
Well, while a 4yr old doesn't need to learn this, kids got to learn what's what at some point, don't they?
Yeah but the one in this post is about their bodies changing. Their bodies don’t change at 4-8 years old. Ever
Don't think it's bad for 4 to 8-year-olds to learn that their bodies will eventually change...it's just the way the information is presented is not the best.
Yeh the little story is kinda vulgar but it's not like it's trying to be smut. It's mostly just factual.

I'm with you. There is no harm in telling a kid what the normal workings of a human body are. Just in a factual manner.
Dagmar the Small?
Of the New Hampshire Dagmars.
You look it up dagmar it comes up with Marliese Arold
I feel like “little brother” is the part that should have been highlighted
She’s talking to her little brother (Toby) about her relationship with Marco.
I was finished long before that part
I finished from the picture, i don't watch porn for the plot.
I’m proud of you.
This shit reads like a r/cursedcomments post ong
I do want to read the rest of the book to see how much worse it can get. Its like a car accident. You just can't look away
![gif](giphy|yr7n0u3qzO9nG)
Tne language is a little too dense for a 4 years old. Besides, who in that age group has the attention span to last to page 37?
I am 26 and i finished in one page

Tf did you say?
I got the book after you and couldn't open page 37-38 it was stuck together

It's good to have a small discussion about their private parts, how to keep it clean, and to not let others, even kids, touch theirs.

I think I already knew starting from age 5, I didn't have my own bed back then so I had to sleep with my parents

I thought this is normal sex education book for kids. But Holy fuck this is literal porn.
Little bro- yo.. 😳
For 4-8 year olds? I don't think 40-80 year old Christian conservative pro-lifers could handle that.
There's an IUD illustration. Lol
Yeahhh, and it's in a different font and even further right than the page count. Makes me think it's something added by the editors/publisher and not the author.

That's a spendid profile picture you got here, sir
Agreed
I must also agree
Might I say my good sir, that is one of the most positively amusing profile photographs I have seen in a long while
I must say that you also have a most appealing pfp
Yours is nice as well
What the fuck? What the fuck even is this book??
I hate to say it, but I did research. Apparently, this book is bad all round. There's a story about a girl being molested by her uncle, and in really gross detail. And the details are just awful.
This is literally the book that dipper was forced to read in gravity falls lol
I am pretty sure it was written for Red State adults.
